This is so much more difficult on quads. The skates alone are much heavier. The wheels are outside the profile of the boot, instead of a narrow blade under the center. Close footwork is tricky. The creativity in their program exceeds any I've seen in figure skating. As a matter of fact there are synchro programs that are unique as well.
I lived for a while just outside of Paris in a town that to my surprise did not have an ice skating rink.I had been Skating and Dancing since I was 2 years old. The little town did have a roller rink and to my delight it was filled with trained skaters just like this. So I started skating and competing and hoped one day to go to the Olympics. At that time it was supposed to become a Summer Olympic sport. When that didn't happen I kept on with my Ballet training and became a Prima Ballerina instead. I watch this with a bit of envy and regret. Had they included Rollerskating as an Olympic sport, who knows how different my life would have been! Thank you for the upload and the memories!We need a petition to have Roller Skating as a Summmer Olympic Sport!
Luca and Rebecca keep raising the bar in this sport. It's absolutely amazing to watch them. Their coordination in their movements together is seamless. It's almost like they just skate automatically knowing what the other ones going to do but they have skated together for about 8 years I believe.

Wow, I am so glad I decided to watch this! I am just in awe! I’ve been a figure skating fan for decades, but roller skating - even at an elite level - always seemed so clunky in comparison. But not this couple!! Absolutely fantastic to watch! Creative, gripping choreography, graceful…. It took my breath away!
@@rainbowgirlism I’m so torn over which I prefer, the off-ice/Snow White online skates specifically made to be like ice skates or quads. Apparently the quads are insanely heavy and I imagine the placement of your weight when doing strokes is completely different like on spins it looks like they really Rock back on the heel in quads
@@SobrietyandSolace have done quad, ice, and inline, and i can tell you i vastly prefer inlines. quads generally look clunky because to be able to do super deep edges like the skaters in this video you need a NICE plate. it’s easier to mimic the look of figure skating in inlines if you don’t have a nice floor and a big budget for your skates. they are less stable though so learning is easier in quads i would imagine (that’s how i learned). the only thing inlines are worse at is spinning. you kind’ve have to spin on your toe stops which slows you down faster, i’ve only seen one person do a heel spin on inlines and it seems incredibly difficult.
I agree! I’ve seen some very impressive park skaters but other then that most roller skating just is not as cool as looking as figure ice skating. But this was! This was so stunning and it really shows you what potential roller skating really has! I wish artistic roller skating would become as common as figure ice skating because it’s much more available to people. Most people don’t live in cold climates and not everyone can afford or even has an ice rink near them.

I definitely agree quads are easier and tbh figure inline skates that are decent are gonna cost just as much as a decent pair of indoor roller skates so it really is up to preference and what kind of skating you feel more comfortable on. I myself will always be a quad supremacist but that’s just me lol
I ice skate AND roller skate....ice is my favorite....but this is the BEST thing I have seen in a LONG time!!!! people don't realize how hard this is.....roller skating is MUCH harder to do all of these things than ice.....MUCH.....i would love to see them on ice...i can just imagine!!! I do roller skating, not really the level of an "artistic roller skater" but i still know some basic moves like backward crossovers, 2 foot spin (still working on it),etc.. and i can kind of hold my leg up for about 3-4 seconds but i tried on ice.. i almost fell even trying to push on ice and i couldn't even hold my leg up for a second..
Holy shit that pair spin at the end the start of it has two insanely difficult and incredibly risky transitions and they come so quickly - the amount of stability he has to have to counter balance himself and her as she does a flare kick going into the spin then immediately flips off her back skate not even half a rotation later, falling under him and dropping all of her weight from above and outside him to below and away from him and he maintains the center of the spin and doesn't bobble in the slightest. Gee whiz that's impressive
I've watched figure skating for decades and I have never seen a lift as cool as 2:35 - wow! the multiple changes of position, several positions I've never seen before esp the insane balance they had to have on the one handed thigh grip
So you haven seen Polish figure skating pair, who used to teach lifts to other figure skaters after they have finished their sport carrier. type in youtube: Dorota Zagórska i Mariusz Siudek (most probably this pair took some lessons from them as this lift is their style :P).
@@StewNWT so cool! Yes, their lift technique was fantastic. They worked so hard on them. At the moment we dont have in Poland unfortunately any pair that is better than them. Our figure skating sport is very underrated and forgotten. Sadly.
I'm surprised and amazed all at once, as a former figure skater this looks more challenging and requires even more balance to me. That toe loop! Amazing she can do it without the toe pick 👌

Oh my gosh!! They were wonderful! I've always watched figure skating, singles and doubles. I never dreamed that roller skating could be as elegant and fluid as ice skating. Roller skates are heavier than ice skates, but this couple made them look weightless. Katarina Witt won the gold in the 1988 Olympics and was so smug that she beat Debi Thomas. I'd love to see her try and do a triple toe anything on roller skates to the music of Carmen against this young lady....Katarina would be a laughing stock! 😂
I grew up roller skating and competing in speed skating and pairs. I did the pairs skating part but we never skated like this? These guys skated beautifully!

Never been particularly into ice skating but seeing what roller skaters can do, I'd definitely be more inclined to watch this in the Olympics. It's more accessible and relatable to me since I actually have access to roller skating unlike ice skating. Edit: I'm aware of Jam skating and love that, I wish there could be more spotlight shined on not only artistic roller skating but Jam skating as well.
I have long wondered why rollerskating (both artistic and speed skating) is not in the Summer Olympics. It's not like the arena in Buenos Aires is empty. They keep adding newly-created sports when rollerskating has been around forever. Someday within my lifetime, I hope. Americans? How 'bout adding it as a demonstration sport in LA in 2028?

I believe they have all the same disciplines, just less well known.
I started doing artistic when I was 7 as my dad owned the roller skating rink where I live. Finally retired in 1972
