Guys, the divider in his hand will do the job without going through unnecessary effort, that is unless you are looking for perfection in your fits. You can lay your log, scribe it, notch it and roll it into place ,about twenty five minutes per log.
They didn’t go into this kind of detail in the video, but the geometry is the same. It’s all about turning circles into arches of the correct diameter. My brother and I built a cabin and the first couple of logs we tried to notch became firewood. However, once we correctly applied simple geometry it became simple. We had minimal chinking on the 20x30 cabin we built and have built a couple of cabins of similar size. I will say we could have used Prenneke to help us!
i know im asking randomly but does anyone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account..? I was stupid lost the password. I love any help you can offer me.
@Ares Crosby Thanks for your reply. I found the site on google and Im in the hacking process atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Fucking hell, i didnt realize there was so much tedium. If it takes all that finesse with notches, and channels and reliefs and scribes, then they may as just well not even use rounds and just hew Coplanar faces in every log so they stack like blocks and be done with it.
You missed the whole point of building a handcrafted log building. It is not that difficult to build once you learn the techniques. I've been designing and building high-end, handcrafted log homes for over 50 years. There obviously is a lot of labor in a well built log home, but the value is there. Designed and built well, a log home can last centuries instead decades. I now live in Sweden and have been able to trace the log builders in my family back to my great great grandfather. There is value in building with logs that is impossible to get with "quick and dirty," get it up in a hurry.

Not easy.
This guy quit school early, he didn't like playing around...
Looks like a lot of hassle to build an antiquated dwelling that uses much more wood tha a regular stick built building
But the cabin will not require as much if any insulation.
