I’ve built 3 medium sized off grid cabins the last one I wanted to try something I bought a dewalt cordless planner to flatten tops and bottoms of logs, then ran a grove a inch deep down the centre lol… bit more work and I’m glad I have quite a few battery’s but the end result was very clean and although a bit more work the work was easy enough for anyone..

I have saw mill and thinking to flatten two opposite sides, in top one make grove for insulation which will be positioned opside down. Flat surfaces will align to each other and from outside it will still look "logy", any additional idea??

You explain things very well. Thanks. Going to attempt a sauna. I heard that poplar is a good wood for log building. Gets harder with time. Is this true?.

Yes , all wood hardens w time. In our area we prefer using softwood bc it stays more stable. Poplar can tend to get ring shake over time. But in the southern states poplar is a more common building option.

Did a course with Allan Mackie. He did a w cut. Left a high point down the center of the groove. I drove across the country for the course at the time he lived in Parry sound.

I live in Brazil, and I really want to go to the course. I've been dreaming about this for a long time
But my English, it's not very good.
How high would English be recommended?

Thank you for your support. We have had students with minimal english in our courses. Dave is a very patient instructor. That being said, all of the material is taught in english and the handouts are all in english as well. The students were able to do some work in the evenings to translate some of the material and they were very successful. It's always a terrific experience. www.bclogschool.com for more info and you can also find the contact info to email Dave with any questions. Thanks!
