This is much nicer than what Hansen proposed. But for the content creators, you didn’t look very far if you truly couldn’t find other arenas concerned about their waste and the environmental impact on climate change. Golden 1 Center in Sacramento is the only arena in the world to be 100% solar powered & achieve LEED Platinum designation. All green waste (vegetable trimmings, protein trimmings and scraps, etc.) is treated as part of a groundbreaking new program called “California Safe Soil”. They treat waste with organic enzymes and process in a giant food digester. After it’s “digested” and then pasteurized, filtered it is put back into the soil at local farms. All food sold in the arena must be locally sourced within 150 miles. Leftover fryer oil which is locally produced rice bran oil, is converted to biodiesel by a local, family-run business. Lastly, the arena itself used recycled concrete from the mall that stood where the arena is now. I’m sure Chase Center in SF and Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee also have their own plans to reduce their carbon footprint.
For me as an Nuremberg IceTigers fan, my eyes almost popped out when I saw Reimer in 2:04 (famous german hockey player, maybe you‘ll know him from the 2018 olympics) 😅😍 Really nice to see my hometown team from germany in this section (and pretty random as well), but I liked it! Nice video, I‘m really excited to see how the Kraken will do in this climate friendly arena Greetings from Germany!
Direct this at the Port of Seattle and the Mariners. Both of them opposed this and lobbied the city council. It'll be great to have an arena we didn't pay for.
The Storm actually averaged about 7,500 in 2019. The L.A. Sparks averaged about 11,000 to lead the league. While 18,100 is unlikely to ever be met, the team might average ½ of that.
You know the Zags will play against Bama in December in that arena, and it will host college basketball tournaments and obviously be NBA ready. It's not just for the WNBA SMH
@@donaldthomas7070 The Arena was not designed by WNBA standards they want to be ready if the NBA knocks the door and you will not pay a Billion to not have a NBA ready arena or not have the capacity to host tournaments.
@@Zillav907, be that as it may, the arena will not see any NBA regular-season games for at least a few years to come. I don't think the NBA is interested in expanding, & the only team that might relocate there in the foreseeable future would probably be Portland (given that Moda Center is 25 years old & that many arenas of that era or just a few years earlier have been or are looking to be replaced).
The roof is considered a city icon and was non negotiable when trying to build the new arena. They had to keep it otherwise they wouldn’t have got permission from the city to build the rink. I guess they funnel rain water from the roof and make the ice out of it too.
What is this Seattle Storm that everyone is talking about? I have lived in Seattle for 25 years and never heard of it. Are they referring about the gloomy weather?
The inaugural season might sell out. There's a lot of basketball fans in Seattle who've convinced themselves the Storm are an adequate replacement for the Sonics. And, you cannot overlook the novelty of a "new" arena factor as well. That will bring people in, too. The question is: for how long after the novelty factor wears off?
@@notthatdigusted7468 You probably don’t actually live in Seattle nor its surrounding suburbs if you believe it’s a good idea to shoehorn a second pro franchise that also would play 41 home dates per season at the same time as the Kraken. Unlike where the Mariners, Huskies and Seahawks play, you cannot take a train to a Kraken or Storm home game. That area is massively congested with traffic and is not included in the regional rail expansion plans. The city had a golden opportunity for a true brand new arena built from scratch next to the baseball and football/soccer stadiums, but, in true Seattle fashion, they blew it and railroaded a “new” KeyArena down everyone’s throats instead. Dress it up in any colour you like, but, there’s never really going to be anything “new” about an arena that first opened when JFK was still alive.

Just like how Obama swears the water is rising, and encourages all for the safety of the Climate, and quite literally that same year he said that, he bought a multi million dollar beach front property. Wow it would of been cheaper to build a new stadium back in 07 and we would still have the Sonics
Sonics are coming back don’t worry
Part of it was the owner who took the Sonics away from Seattle was kind of a stuck up dickhead. :(
Wow not new but Rehab hell they should have built one from Ground up talking about Cheap

One thing that does not make sense to me is why couldn't this new Key arena be built in 2006 or 2007 when the Sonics team needed a new stadium?
It would have been hard to justify another costly renovation to the city and its taxpayers after only 12 years since the last one.
In addition to what Mathew said, the city of Seattle spent a lot of money on new stadiums for the Seahawks and Mariners.
The new owner wanted the Sonics to move to OKC in the first place. Regardless of the stadium.
TLDR, new owner faked needing new stadium.
I believe Carolina has the NHL’s changeover record. They can go from basketball to hockey in 70 minutes
