Staples center upgrade was a while ago and wasn't as extensively modified. Seattle also requires more reinforced construction due to earthquake consideration which drives up costs, unlike Madison sq gardens and other non earthquake prone locations. Also material costs have spiraled upwards during the last 2 years.

Lots of inaccuracies here some touched on by others but a huge glaring one is you said the city paid 1 billion for this. Patently false. This is a privately funded arena. The city even owns the arena after the 39 year lease expires.

Because they get special treatment and they can Cherry pick players

@@ConsumptiveSoul Like what the Golden Knights did 5 years ago which lead to their appearance in the Stanley Cup finals in their first year of existence.

@@ConsumptiveSoul BS. There are plenty of expansion sports team that suck when they launch. Also, when teams get to cherry pick players, it is because they SUCKED in the previous season -- not because they are an expansion team. Moreover, the benefits that expansion teams receive when they start quickly bleed off, and are mixed in with the rest of the league.
Teams have to start somewhere, and when they are new, they need any help they can get. Few people want to pay premium for tickets to watch a team that sucks ass, unless they live in places like Cleveland, Buffalo, or Miami.

It actually has been pretty smooth for construction even with the pandemic causing limitations on work ability
