    Single camera handlheld walkthrough which shows what you want to show viewers without making them feel dizzy or sick is not an easy thing to do, but you did it. Nicely done. The person holding this camera either got lucky or, more likely, knows what they're doing.

    Partly due to the preservation of the original roof and exterior glass, this arena has a minimalist, mid 20th century meets modern day style that is perfect for an arena in Seattle and is unique among arenas in general. Fantastic architectural job!

    At 12:53, the seats obstruct the scoreboards which is why the have the TV screens but at least you can see the entire rink. It's much better than what they had at Barclays Arena or the MTS Centre in Winnipeg. The Kraken have a beautiful home.

    • @KrakenFanatics
      @KrakenFanatics  2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah, they just kept the roof and dug deeper to maximize space to build multiple locker rooms for the NHL, WNBA, and NBA. They built an atrium on the south side of the arena that also adds to the interior space where they built the main entrance, escalators to all the levels, added club, food stands, and the team shop. It basically a different arena inside but they kept the original roof.

  • @bklyntonw3187
    @bklyntonw3187 3 ปีที่แล้ว +40

    Unfortunately, keeping the original roof compromised the ability to expand the seating much further. At 17,100, Climate Pledge has one of the smallest capacities in the NHL. It could not be helped due to the landmark preservation board voting to keep the original roof. The city was very lucky that it found a developer with the creative acumen to do a privately financed reconstruction that preserved the roof, otherwise, there would be no NHL in Seattle.

    • @Bum_Hip

      Couldn’t they have just built a new arena somewhere else in, or near the city?

    • @RUmlas

      @@Bum_Hip they tried that but they all failed. One was supposed to be in the Soho district? Just a few blocks or so from Safeco and TLink feild.

      Edit - Hahaha "sodo" not Soho.

    • @bklyntonw3187
      @bklyntonw3187 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Bum_Hip Chris Hansen, the hedge funder who wanted to build an arena in sodo, wanted to prioritize getting an NBA team first, then build the arena after which he would deal with the NHL. Obviously, we're still waiting for a shot at the NBA, and the waiting around to build the arena might have cost us a shot at the NHL if not for OVG offering to do the Key Arena rebuild to NHL spec.
      It is a nice building in spite of the limited seating.

    A interesting tour. Thank You for sharing. The general seats look much more comfortable than the seats in Rogers Arena, (home of the Vancouver Canucks). Also nice to see hand rails down the steps, leading to ice level. I never understand how Rogers Arena gets away with not having these hand rails. As the width of the steps look the same in both arenas. Cheers.🙂🏒🇨🇦

    • @RUmlas
      @RUmlas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's about the angle and slope. If it's steep (depending on local regulations and pitch angle) it requires hand rails. Because CPA had to dig deep and fit everything in a limited square footage, they had to make some of the upper seats on an angle. Rogers arena didn't.
      I remembered taking a arena tour at Rogers Arena (then GM Place) and someone asked about the lack of hand rails. The tour guide said he'd ask and was given an answer 20 mins later via an email. Its all about how the steps are angle and pitched in relation to is location in the "nose bleeds."
      As for the lower bowl. That's another good question to ask on the next arena tour at Rogers Arena.

    How are the views from up top there? Looks like it's pretty far away from the ice, looks like it's not a very steep bowl like most arenas. Also the press box being in front of you seems like it would be annoying

    • @bobbowie9350
      @bobbowie9350 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @slowgold20
      @slowgold20 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The first few rows under the press bridge actually have a really great view. Once you get higher up, the scoreboards and view of the fans on the other side of the bowl are blocked by the structure. I wouldn't like sitting up there, I'd feel a little boxed in so close to the ceiling, even though you can still see all the ice. We did mount some massive TV's though so you can still see the content on the scoreboards even if you can't see the scoreboard itself.

      After having gone to a game, the two scoreboards don't look as wrong as you think. They're bigger than they look in photographs. The only problem is the team was not putting up in-game stats like for goal scoring-who scored, and who got the assist(s), nor shots on goal, nor penalties. Too much emphasis on pictures of Kraken fans sending twitter photos.
