If you put them in a strainer after the ice bath and dry them completely you can then flash freeze them and vac seal them in portion sizes according to your needs. That avoids any additional frost over time. Just pull them from the freezer and pop them into a steamer (from frozen) and they literally cook in 5 minutes. A great video Jennifer for anyone! TFS and stay well!
This is such a great idea I know myself when I was younger I kind of did this but over the years got away from it I do not have property anymore because I live in an apartment for gardening myself so I buy the frozen at the store occasionally I get out to the farm market and get me some fresh stuff and I will start doing this again but nothing like some good fresh vegetables keep the videos coming you’re doing a great job God bless all !!
I really like and appreciate this. Thank you Jennifer. I hope Miss Sheila is okay. I realize I said this on your last video, but it's worth repeating, at least one more time. I loved Steve and I'm oh so sorry he is no longer with us, however, I'm super glad you ladies decided to allow for "comments." I'm as sure as I can be that you'll get nothing but positive feedback. Regardless, you're great!!
With Covid-19 abound we’ll all have to go back to our roots. Modern people have no idea how to garden much less preserve food. Good job on helping the people out on how to conserve food
@@richbennett6577 I hear you Rich! Yes, we will always protect the ladies, even if we have to kick some ass. Man to man talking here. Love it. This channel is awesome.
I like to do the same thing when my garden comes in . (August - November) . I omit the salt and blanch in a full rolling boil for no more than one minute . Kale takes four or five depending on how tough it is . Thanks for another good one !
Thank you Jen Jen! I have always had trouble blanching veggies! I either cook them too long or don't cool them well enough! Your video makes it look so easy! So where is Miss Sheila? Doing her nails? Hehe
Hi Jennifer, Miss Sheila and you'all reading this, thanks for teaching me how to do this, I had no idea. Now I can buy fresh in season! Can you freeze fresh vegetables without blanching them, or is that different? Thanks for this GREAT video.
I blanch my fresh veggies in my instant pot for 0 to 1 minutes, do a quick release, put in ice water, drain, and put in freezer bags and your good to go.
Hi I just finished doing up three two cup bags of cauliflower broccoli and carrot following your instructions and do they ever look nice and fresh thank you
That's all good to know 👍 miss shells do you have friends in st.cloud MN I remember Steve saying that you guys did I live in Avon MN keep up the great show love it 😍👌
Blanching can help clean the surface of vegetables and can kill bacteria, molds and other organisms existed on the surface of vegetables. Blanching stops the enzyme action. This will help preserve the taste, color, and texture of the vegetable. Blanching helps get the vegetables prepared for long-term freezer storage.
It dont have to be organic vegetables viewers.. Start learning how to grow veggies and learn from this lady... buy carrots at shops that are like a dollar per bag..chop them up and do this...excellent video
Blanching is a must for almost all vegetables to be frozen. It stops enzyme actions which can cause loss of flavor, color and texture. Blanching cleanses the surface of dirt and organisms, brightens the color and helps retard loss of vitamins.

Hi Jennifer, Miss Sheila and you'all reading this, thanks for teaching me how to do this, I had no idea. Now I can buy fresh in season! Can you freeze fresh vegetables without blanching them, or is that different? Thanks for this GREAT video.
You should always blanch most veggies, otherwise they wilt etc. You can store them longer.
I blanch my fresh veggies in my instant pot for 0 to 1 minutes, do a quick release, put in ice water, drain, and put in freezer bags and your good to go.
That works too!

Thank you for this any yummy recipes with spinach or cauliflower basically vegan recipes wow your garden is beautiful
Thank you!
Did not know this stuff.

How long do the veggies soak in the ice bath ?
Just long enough to cool them down, then remove. 😊
can you do this for onion?..
You don’t need to blanch onions. Just dice up and freeze
After I use the out of freezer how long do I cook them for then?
3-4 minutes in a covered glass dish in the microwave. You can add a little water but you don't have to.
To remove excess water, use a salad spinner...
Great tip! :)

WhooHoo!
What about celery and onions? I'm cooking for me only I waste so much of these vegetables
You actually don't have to blanch celery or onions, just chop them up and place them in a freezer bag. You can Blanch celery but only for a minute.
@@CookingwithShotgunRed ty I was always wondering about celery what about spinich .
@@gregscrap cook the spinach first and then freeze it in just a little of the water.

What happens if you don't don't blanch the veggies before freezing?
Blanching is a must for almost all vegetables to be frozen. It stops enzyme actions which can cause loss of flavor, color and texture. Blanching cleanses the surface of dirt and organisms, brightens the color and helps retard loss of vitamins.
I also want to get a food savor machine. I had one years ago and used it to death. They have other brands on Amazon cheaper then the Food Savor brand.
WHY. ? ! ?
Hi, It would have been great (some might say obvious) to explain WHY you need to do all that work and all that energy use, rather than just put them raw in the freezer.

You would blanch vegetables if you plan on storing them long than 2-3 months.
We blanchin we blanchin I live up in a mansion
