    *This product was donated after the review. I only accept and review products that are competitive. If they aren’t they are collected unreviewed. I make this all clear to brands when they send products. I don’t do reviews in exchange for products.
    NOTES
    *1 COMPARISONS OF UNREVIEWED GEAR : Please don't ask me how a product compares to another which I haven't reviewed, as it isn't possible to comment on such products I haven't tested. Check out my website for reviews of products I have completed instead (hit the review tag, and separate tags).
    *2 MORE ADVICE : If you are asking me how does X product compare to Y that I HAVE reviewed, or how does something sound beyond comment in videos, or system / further advice, please sign up to Patreon (small amounts!) or make contributions via PayPal where we text chat or Zoom etc. I can't answer all questions free on TH-cam! I only charge £25 for an hour consultation on Zoom of all my experiences.
    *3 ABUSE POLICY : I encourage and like debate, and constructive criticism, but people who abuse or troll me, or my subscribers or commenters, post very negative and non constructive and uncorroborated comments designed to put me or others down (where they don't explain themselves), or they could be perceived as such, as well as aggressive comments / hate, or pit my subscribers against me, get their comments removed and I hide them from commenting again. I don’t need the hassle of these people for all the work I put in! Again I don’t mind people who disagree with me, where they explain, or indeed debate, but I tend to delete comments that are not substantiated where the poster doesn’t explain themselves eg just ‘this amp is really bad’ as it doesn't add to the discussion.

      Thank you and yes it is. I just watched one reviewer and the guy said it’s the equal of the Lumin u2 mini in the Eversolo review, then when he reviews the pricier Lumin u2 afterwards, he says the u2 mini is slightly better than this Eversolo. I despair for Eversolo who want their product properly represented. This sort of stuff really gets my back up.

      @@13thnotehifireviews7 Understandable. I just came across that review in question and I am just about to watch it. I've got a cold beer in hand to calm my nerves just in case. ;) I suppose he may have changed his mind after spending more time with the two streamers? However, he should mention the original review then and the process of how/why he changed his mind. I really do appreciate your honesty and directness. Trying to appease everyone never works in the long run.

    • @yippie6862

      @@13thnotehifireviews7 Okay, I just finished watching both videos. He did say in the original review that the Eversolo matched the U2 Mini in sound quality. Then in the newest video he said the U2 Mini was slightly better than the Eversolo. Perhaps he changed his mind after spending more time with two? Anyways, he should have explained his process of why/how he changed his mind. He never did.

    • @13thnotehifireviews7
      @13thnotehifireviews7  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@yippie6862 I agree not naming names. That’s why I was thinking scripting is so important because I can look back on my past scripts and see what I said. He may have changed his mind but it’s easy to take the dim view if there is apparent contradiction. You are right he should cover it off. I think you can continue to appease everyone if you stick with only reviewing the products that compete of those brands that support you and their bad ones go on patreon and people need to support that too. If you just get every product in and try to review it well the reviewer deserves to be sussed out, especially when so blatant. I essentially look at it as trying to limit the chances I don’t contradict myself with the products I get, but if I reach a threshold where a product is so much better I will say (eg versus cxn v2j and hope the relationship against the negative commented brand product stands up. Essentially i don’t want to pick every product as some click bait exercise but what is very good with due diligence. Too many reviewers review too much gear they don’t believe in. The people watching to meet a need to buy don’t get this all and unfortunately they haven’t checked out what’s going on and it’s terrible that hifi companies send products to those reviewers who do that. The smart people always prevail and will prevail.

    Honestly considering getting one of these and comparing it to my Pi2 design Mercury streamer/transport, which is pretty stellar already. But simply not having to deal with all the bugginess and software issues associated with an rpi based machine would already be appealing. Especially if the Eversolo can already best a Lumin mini. Great and very helpful review 🙏🏼

      @@mortimersnerd1348Yes,
      the iiWi Review of the Eversolo is what got my attention to it in the first place. Had purchased my Mercury streamer partly due to his review of it. Round and round! Honestly, with some improvements with a lps and better cabling for the Mercury, the Eversolo still might not sound right for a system if it ends up not pairing with it as well. Might not end up to be that great a delta? Still really like the Mercury (especially after some hardware/software tweaks that I’ve done). But I’m going to try the Eversolo and compare when I’m ready to make that move.

    The new firmware is out. It adds 2 dozen improvements and some new features. Add on SSD storage has been increased to 4TB, there is now optional remote (they stated they only did this due to pressure from the public, why would you need one in this configuration is anyone's guess), LCD VU meters are now matching actual sound level and peaks more precisely and many many more. These guys are onto it, they stated it took them 3 years of development to come to the product of these specs and value-to-price ratio. Nice.

    Nice review. I have 2 streamers in my apartment. In the living room I have a full set of Cambridge Audio gear (CXA81, CXNv2 and a CXC). And in my office/game room a Bluesound Node X runs the show. The Node being connected to a pair of active Presonus Eris E4.5 BT monitors. For some things I am using their respective apps (StreamMagic and BlueOS Controller 4.0) since for example Roon isn't that great with online radio. But otherwise Roon runs the show here.
    I am using my CXNv2 as a transport since I like listening to MQA. Because of this the CXNv2 is connected digitally to a Loxjie D30 DAC, with an ESS Saber chipset, which is connected to my CXA81 amplifier.
    Even though the CXNv2 has a display, while the Node X does not, I don't really think it to be a deal breaker for me. It is quite small and hard to read from a small distance. I'm using Roon on my iPhone or iPad anyways.
    The Eversolo looks like a really nice piece of equipment. But as I am more then happy with both my CXNv2 and Node X, I won't be buying one.

    Excellent review, with great music! Thank you, Simon. The Eversolo looks great. Just one important thing to point out to UK users who like internet radio and listen to foreign stations. The Eversolo uses the Tunein app for radio, and this blocks all foreign stations for UK listeners. A workaround would be to use Roon, as that has its own radio service. I read on another forum that the BBC Sounds app is now available on the Eversolo, and there are rumours about Radio Paradise being available soon as well.

    So after watching several reviews I went ahead & purchased the master edition & I have to say this streamer/player/dac is absolutely brilliant & the best pound for pound device I have bought so far. I’ve had a naim hdx, nds, & currently a ps audio dsd dac all thousand of pounds worth of equipment & this easily matches them for sound quality for a fraction of the price, I blown away at how good it is. I have yet to try it as a streamer outputting via digital into the ps audio dac ( will update once cable acquired) but this is so good & I actually prefer the warmer sound of the Eversolo that I already think it’ll be going on sale & proceeds put to newer speakers
    The build quality & app are all top notch this is a streaming power house & at £759 for the standard model it’s a steal. The legacy hifi manufacturers should be quaking in their boots.

    Another confirmation that this Eversolo DMP-A6 is the right choice for me. In fact, I've ordered one and it is due to arrive this upcoming Friday. I already have a 4 terabyte SSD ready to be installed in it. This thing is to replace a Pioneer Elite N-50 Streamer/DAC that I've had for nearly 10 years that decided it did not want to boot up anymore. Really sucks as I've really liked the sound of the Pioneer Elite N-50. When you factor in inflation, this Eversolo will be about what I paid for the N-50 ($700 back in 2013). If I can somehow coax it back to life, it will be interesting to compare it to the Eversolo unit. I might try to find a tech that could repair it, as I got another system I could use it in if I can get it to work again. The Eversolo will be hooked up to a Marantz Pre/pro, fronting a stack of Emotiva XPA Gen 3 DR amps, driving Klipsch RF-7s. I will be using the Eversolo as the DAC for a Denon CD player through the optical input.

    Brilliant review. I’m considering one of these as I purchased the current Bluesound Vault which has been disappointing. The Vault is really heavy power draw in standby mode, makes a noise when on standby (makes it unusable for me as it’s in my bedroom) and it’s got a spinning hard disk in it and for the price I would have expected an ssd at least from the performance, power draw and noise. It also is way quieter going in to my AV amp (Pioneer SCLx 86) meaning I have to crank the volume way up. Like I said a bit of a disappointment all round and the eversolo just looks a better unit all round. Tempted by the a8

    Thank you for the reviews on the dmp-a6! I was about to jump on the Fiio r7 but you changed my mind and I am highly satisfied with what I got like a package and mostly like sound performance. Still listening in a chain with Klipsch the Fives and it is a killer - beating the Zen Stream - RME Adi. I’m seriously looking for my first streamer. I’m not particularly tech savvy. If the DAC is really high quality that would save more than the cost of a Denefrips Ares 12th or similar. That would be amazing at this price! The only sticky point might be the HDMI for TV audio.

    • @dannyfannyfoodle
      @dannyfannyfoodle ปีที่แล้ว +2

      But if you just want tv audio and don’t care about using the TV’s remote to control volume, you can still use the digital out (spdf) from the tv to the Eversolo. E-ARC would be preferred, but still a reasonable solution.

    • @drazenbabich
      @drazenbabich ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@dannyfannyfoodle True. And with the optical Toslink audio out you get the advantage of using both the stereo speakers for main sound and effects, and the TV speakers for the more enhanced dialogue. I am one of many who doesn't use centre speakers in my hifi setup, only two stereo speakers and the Sub, without ability to hear the direct TV sound (even though via lower quality built in TV speakers) the dialog is challenging and muted. I used to have HDMI-ARC into RCA converter for my YAmaha R-N803D, now only using the Toslink via 1-to-2 splitter out of SPDF port on the TV, one cable into stereo receiver, one into wireless headpones charging stand/receiver.

    • @rogercollingwood8234
      @rogercollingwood8234 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      This seems to be a great piece of kit at a killer price.
      I currently have the version 3 of the Bluesound Node and all reviews suggest that the Eversolo has better sound quality and a lot more functionality except that I want to connect my TV and just use the TV remote for volume control. I do not want to have to get out my phone to change the volume. Is there a workaround with the Eversolo?
      I also like the subwoofer functions on the Bluesound.

    • @dannyfannyfoodle
      @dannyfannyfoodle ปีที่แล้ว

      @@rogercollingwood8234 While it’s definitely better in almost every way than the Node, the active bass management available through Bluesound is THE killer feature that you’re not going to find on many other devices - other than other NAD/Bluesound products. Now, I do believe you can activate both the XLR and RCA outputs on the Eversolo simultaneously thereby allowing you to connect your sub or subs, you won’t be able to high pass them.
      Regarding remote capability, Eversolo has released a simple, basic remote that will allow you to control volume w/o having to reach for your phone. It has all the basic functions covered and is super handy. But, it’s not HDMI ARC. So you’ll have to fiddle with multiple remotes. Not a deal breaker, but E ARC is another killer feature.
      So it depends on what you think you can live with. I think for a mixed AV music system, I’d be happy with the Node and would find its feature set worth any sonic compromise. For an audio only music system; the Eversolo is where it’s at.

    Interesting regarding the ssd/streaming comparison. I added an internal ssd to my Aries G2 and felt strongly that streaming with Roon sounded better, which is what Auralic predicted. So I took the drive back out. I guess the Auralic is optimised for streaming rather than acting as a transport. This device looks like astounding value. If my second system, now ageing, Aries Femto dies, I reckon the Eversolo is a strong contender to replace it.

    • @dannyfannyfoodle
      @dannyfannyfoodle ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You got it! I really do love the Naim in my current use case as I think it’s highly intuitive, flexible, and sounds fantastic! But I originally chose it over some other separate streamers because I could use its built-in amplification during the summer months to avoid heating up my listening room. But the hiss is just more than I can stand. I briefly tried the iFi Zen Stream and the Cambridge CXN V2 and had similar thoughts to yours about the Cambridge. I was also not thrilled about the lackluster screen resolution and build quality. I had hoped to ultimately use the Cambridge as a transport and upgrade to an external DAC (something you cannot do with the Naim), but it was just too much of a step backwards in build quality and usability.
      This Eversolo may not be quite on par with the Naim with regard to build, but it sure does seem to do everything I need. And based on your assessment, perhaps I won’t need to upgrade to an external DAC for some time, if at all. That is going to be the most interesting comparison - to see how the Eversolo’s internal DAC compares to the Naim’s as I have come to the conclusion that the Burr Brown DAC in the Naim is pretty stellar, all things considered.
      I’ll report back - thanks again for such a thoughtful, high production value review!

Question: I own a good amount of multichannel (including SACD, DVD-A & PABD 5.1 channel and other) content and have been looking for a streamer and overall player to manage the library I´ve stored in my NAS through DLNA. Reading the user manual for the A6 and A8, they do state that the A6 handles multichannel through its HDMI out port, whereas the A8 lacks such a port, and instead, it has an IIS out jack that could only be connected to an external DAC with an IIS input port. Am I missing something or it is true that the manufacturers of Eversolo did not include this functionality on the A8?

    Great video, would you say that this product is worthwhile if you have the Hegel h390?

    Hegel / Eversolo questions: I have the same H390 (with internal DAC). I'm looking for a streamer and am considering getting the Eversolo to fill the need. 1) how did you feel the Eversolo DAC compared with the H390 DAC? (I didn't quite understand at 14:10). 2) If you preferred the Hegel DAC, have you compared the Eversolo Master Edition DAC with that of the Hegel DAC?

    Superthanks, Simon! I’m close to pulling the trigger on line of these. In your next video, could you cover the interface a bit more? Specifically the interface for moving files to the internal nVVME from an external source (Mac Mini, in my case). Cheers!

      @@13thnotehifireviews7 Thanks, Simon - I was thinking more about the interface on the DMP A6 for connecting the Mac and the A6 together... I assume the A6 will appear as a network share in the Finder? I can't wait to put music server software behind me... When accessing files stored on the nVME drive, do you get all the album artwork and metadata..?

      You don’t need to connect the Mac together, as explained type ip address and drag and drop. Yes you do get metadata and album artwork

      I think it was 2tb when I reviewed it but it’s now I think 4tb but I’d go on the eversolo forum for up to date info.

    Reason this sounds better than the Cambridge CXN is because that device still uses a DAC that's like 100 years old now! I have their 752 BD from like a dozen years ago in the (Wolfson) innards are almost exactly the same so there was no way I was going to consider this streamer with that pretense.
    I thought it was going to be a slam dunk for the new DMP-A8 but this is better for me because I will be using an Audio Research preamp that will blow the doors off of anything that offers on the preamp side. And I have an Oppo 205 that does 90% of what a streamer does. Plus ES got rid of one of its best features...the ability to run multi-channel DSD over HDMI, because the A8 changed the HDMI to a (stereo) i2s which I will never use.
    Nice call on Zero 7. Not many people know that Sia was part of that group back in the day...although she won't casually admit it.

    Does the unit have a subwoofer out or a Low pass filter like the Nodes have ?

      Thank you. It doesn’t unfortunately. You can connect them up to the speaker output terminals of your amp like with the rel subs though. See my rel video I did if you don’t know about this.

      @@13thnotehifireviews7 Simon thanks for clearing up how I can pass music from TH-cam music. If I can call it up directly from the streamer would be an advantage. We also have a LG Bar, so we are ok on the TV side. For me, it is how to get the TH-cam service easily and out of internal stored media.

      @@clarice1001nights I don't use YT music or android tablets etc Clarice but if you are using an ipad / ios device you can airplay2 to it as one work around. I think it might be trickier if you use YT music in an android device. There doesn't appear to be YT music as a selectable app to choose in the list of selectable apps in the A6 menu, but I wouldn't be surprised if this is updateable or if Eversolo do update it. You can usb-c android devices to the USB-C input this Eversolo has though!
