    Woooow. I just ran into this old video of Stu's. What an inspiration. 10 years later, he is totally a success. He still keeps using sometimes old fashioned boards, which I love. Stu does not know me, but has helped me a lot improving my Uke playing and i really appreciate that he is very "Zen" in his approach to music and the Uke. He's right in this video he"s got a whole lot to share. I recently enrolled in his Patreon at the $10 level. TOTALLY recommend it if you want to up your music game in an organic, sweet, yet technical way. Go Fuchs Family!

    Thank you, Stu, for clave insights. This lesson is so special, connecting with complex Cuban /African styles which informs so many popular songs like those of Sam Cooke and Bo Diddley. As I have intimated in other comments on this soulful channel, the breadth of ukulele zen is breathtaking!

    I loved how you showed us a strum pattern and then applied it to a classic Sam Cooke song. You're an amazing musician and teacher!

      Stuart Fuchs : you are such a CUTIE PIE ( love the hair) and I never tell guys that.....anyway...thanks for teaching me that four finger roll off the strings for flamingo playing. I really had a difficult time getting the hang of doing that, but since I've view your video now I finally got it Thanks !

    • @UkuleleZen
      @UkuleleZen  11 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, I'm sure you're a cutey pie yourself too. C'mon, you've got a Koala Bear as your icon! Are you from down under/OZ? Hope to visit there someday w Uke, guitar & sandals. I'm very glad you like the videos--more are coming I promise! Not to be weird, but if you dig the lessons, you'll love my CD :-) www.cdbaby.com/cd/stuartfuchs All the best, Stu

      Yes well the Koala Bear was me in a former life....heehee. I'll check out your website for price on the CD. One thing....in your next coming CD and I'm sure your gonna create one would you please take photo shots of fingering or Pause/ freeze frame the lesson showing fingering position. Why? because when I'm seating with my Uku following along your fingers are moving a ilttle fast for us beginners to see and keep up with so if you freeze your close up fingering shot i'll catch on faster. thxs

    Good video...The way I learned the "Diddly Beat" as a young guitar student was the infamous 'secret knock' everyone knows as 'shave & a haircut, 2 bits'. I'm 74 and still use it. I picked up the uke cuz it is the instrument of choice for my Grandchildren. I never paid any attention to uke's but have found they have become an addiction. I really like your channel and visit it often for guidance and knowledge. My biggest obstacle being my brain thinks in guitar chords & have relied on relearning my scales on the uke and play along this way. I have developed an obsession of buying ukes, I find they are very affordable and vary in style, quality and usefulness. I also find that strumming instructions seem to be stuck in the dark ages of rubbing tummy's & patting heads. You do a good job at it. I just play it like I hear it and it comes out fine but I have been playing since I was a young teen. I rarely seem to have strumming issues unless I try to explain it to someone else. Thanks for being a fun, informative and understanding teacher. I like the tunes you chose for us students. Much more hip than most of the other channels I've found. Thank You...Master.

    Stuart -- I do a blog for the baritone ukulele and I stumbled across your lessons videos. I enjoyed your style of making it clear from the beginning and bringing the viewer along in steps. Rhythm is such a universal subject for all instrument players and I am going to post some of your videos on "Humble Baritonics." Thanks for making a quality video. Low tech can be cool too! Jeff

      Thanks for the suggestion & thanks for watching David. I LOVE that album & all the releases that followed (Ruben Gonzales, Eliades, Ochoa, Ibrahim Ferrer, etc...). I'll look into this & see what I can put together that would work on uke. It would be a nice syncopated strum...play on, Stu

    Where would I find the ukulele chords to Sam Cooke's "Ain't That Good News"?Cheers Don

    • @UkuleleZen
      @UkuleleZen  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's a three chord jam...try this: tabs.ultimate-guitar.com/s/sam_cooke/aint_that_good_news_crd.htm You can of course use D7 for the D chord...always listen to the recorded version first - more fun to learn that way... ;)

  • @TocaSalsa
    @TocaSalsa 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Nice lesson Stuart, but dont count 1, 2, 3, 4 ,5, like at the beginning of the Video, for Beginners its better to start similar accurate, like //:1 - -2U - - 4 - /(1) - 2 - 3 - - -://, and try to have ONE and THREE on your Feet, course its important not to loose that easy accent or it didnt groove (Sorry, not you, Stuart, I see, you know it all very well, better than me). For History = The CLAVE is the basic-rhythm of all Latin Music, like SALSA, CHACHACHA, Bolero, Bossa Nova, etc, SAMBA is a little bit different and by the way SALSA plays mostly a 2/3 CLAVE, but always over ONE and THREE (Cowbell), thats make the groove, thats what you need to feel, if you want play or dance "free" to that kind of music. Dont misinterpret me Stuart, I like your music very well, more than my own music.
