Can't forget how a lot of box art in the US changes characters' expressions from happy to angry. Lotsa Kirby games come to mind, specifically.

Only a handful of them have angry faces. Most American Kirby boxes keep the smile

Well to be fair, the name Mega Man makes no sense in the west with the original design of Mega Man, which is a kid. Heck in one version of concept art, he was gonna be called Rock Kid instead of Rock Man. So the art was beefed up to make him look more macho. BUT it's so poorly done and phoned in. My guess is Capcom wasn't taking it seriously enough in the US. Let's face it. The first Mega Man wasn't the best game in the series. Nobody even expected it to get sequels. Mega Man II actually had 2 different box arts in the US. That shows some more effort. It got better from MM3 onward.
I love that this video is just PBG justifying spending hundreds of dollars in boxed-in games.

While I prefer the Japanese box art for a lot of games, I actually like the logo-centric art for the Zelda series her in North America. It kinda feels like they're covers to books of ancient legend when the series follows that pattern.
I think F-Zero X’s box art is night and day. The Japanese box art is superior in every way
Peebs, you can play Super Famicom games on your North American SNES. You just remove two pieces of plastic in the cart slot. The systems are identical, tech spec wise. It's a bit more complex between NTSC and PAL games though, since those ran two completely different resolutions, refresh rates and internal clock speeds.
Might I also suggest throwing in a few PAL boxes? They aren't as good as the Japanese ones usually, but they're WAY different.
Caddicarus made a comparison video between NTSC and PAL, it's pretty neat.

Seeing the back of the Majora’s Mask box unlocked a core memory of sitting in the car as a kid and pouring over the screenshots again and again, my imagination running wild as I wondered what the hell the context could possibly be. Especially for the screaming Zora Link face.
The holographic look of the OG Widneaker box is crazy good. I’m so glad they brought that into the launch screen of HD on the Wii U. I didn’t even know the OG box had that pinkish-blue cover for the longest time and that it was introduced with HD, but man. Really wish we got that box instead of the really weird gold one.
it's interesting to me the different design senses and aesthetic between japanese and western graphic designers. western box art is more nostalgic to me, but a lot of the japanese box art looks a lot more thought out to me and aesthetically pleasing to older me? Like, I actually prefer the windwaker gold box art because it's maybe my favourite childhood gamecube game and looking at the cover sparks fuzzy nostalgia feels within me when i see it.
I do like the western art as well, and not just because of nostalgia. But I like the japanese Wind Waker box art just way more. It perfectly encapsulates the design of the game, and it elevates the emotional impact that game has on me when I see it.
I love watching people show their collections, especially games, animation and movies! I'd love to see more of your collection! I never thought about collecting Japanese game copies, but I might pick that up once I've filled out more of my current game collection
It is really interesting that a lot of Japanese box art during the NES through N64 era had a more artistic flair compared to the American versions. The American box art just seems like a by-the-numbers template (especially the back of the box) and doesn't have the same design punch as the Japanese ones.
One of my favourite bits you made was referencing Ramon Sessions in your Hey You Pikachu video. I always thought that was a hilariously obscure NBA player to bring up that would fly right over 99.9% of peoples heads, but for the 0.1% like me who caught it, it was just fantastic. I actually got a signed Ramon Sessions 8x10 really just because of that moment.

Especially the NES, where Japanese and many PAL covers had colorful anime style covers, while North American covers were often so 'Merica (Hammerin' Harry) or just plain weird (Mega Man). During the 5th generation Western companies demanded everything be 3D in and out of the game, causing most to age poorly, while Japan continued the trend of great 2D covers that I still love to this day.
And Europe, so many of there’s are so much better.

Chrono Trigger has to be one of the best examples of this. The Japanese art is just the whole crew looking great in their Toriyama style. The American art, while very iconic, is completely wrong in that Marle uses water magic, not fire. That art came from an original demo screenshot when Marle was seen using fire instead of ice. Also, the Japanese box is another pure white background.
It's not entirely inaccurate as Marle's magic actually does look more like fire in-game when using the triple tech that is illustrated on the box art.

Probably someone's said it over the past year, but in SMBRPG the sword's name isn't Smithy. The TV commercial referred to it as "Smithy the Sword" but Smithy was the name of the final boss.
The sword's name is Exor

2:36 I believe KK is saying “Hitori yori Futari” which, according to Google translate, means “Two is better than one”. Considering Hitori and Futari literally mean one person and two people respectively, it’s probably referring to multiplayer being added in the GameCube version.

There is actually an alternate cover for Japanese Majoras Mask, it does not have the all red square at the bottom and it has Link Riding Epona with all the forms Link has through the game along with the bosses in the rainbow color style in the background! I think that one looks slightly better!

Out of the Harvest Moon games, I only ever owned Magical Melody as a kid for gamecube. Ann was the character I chose to marry so I'm glad Peebs has finally come around. :')

Peebs....the Hey You, Pikachu box from Japan..... On the back, Pikachu is facing away because you turned the box around. On the front, it is facing you, so it is as if you are holding Pikachu (the box) and turned them around! It is a great design, in my opinion. A small detail but a great one nonetheless!

Nice collection of Japanese games Peebs! I managed to get some myself, especially Gamecube (I have Wind Waker too) and Wii ones and yes, the box art is usually way better! I also saw some of those on my Japanese guide books.
