    Hey everyone, going to add this comment for frequently asked questions. I will continue to add to this as needed.
    Q: I don't see the auto lip sync button.
    A: You will a recent edition of Adobe Animate. This feature was added to the 2020 version of the program.
    Q: I can't hear the audio on the main timeline.
    A: You will often need to place the audio both in the imbedded timeline AND the main timeline in order to hear it while animating between the different timelines.
    Q: Can this work with different sets of mouths?
    A: Yes, one way you can achieve this would be to have each mouth set on it's own layer all being synced to the same audio layer. Once they all have interpreted to the audio you could simply delete the keyframes of the set you don't want visible during that part of the VO.
    Q: Can I have multiple characters in the scene with lip sync?
    A: Yes, if your characters are all inside their own symbols you can place the separated audio track inside those for each character. I would recommend using an audio program like Adobe Audition to mix down each characters separate audio, then a master mix of all the characters. The separate audio for each character would be placed inside that characters symbol, and the master mix audio would be placed on the main timeline, so you can preview while you're animating.

    Great tutorial. I've been working with animate/flash since the early 2000s and have been synching mouths by ear and never got around to learning to do it automatically. You still need to tweak a few things on your own to get the perfect lip synch but this method makes things so much easier and saves so much time!!!!

      Glad this helped! I also go back and modify the automated lip sync as it doesn't always match the VO, but having most of the visemes already keframed is such a fantastic starting point that saves so much time!

    I am a super beginner just started 2 days ago and these tutorials are great if you have at least a moderate level of understanding ~ I can not figure out how to just properly import the Lip Sync file into Adobe Animate. I get it I have worked with Illustrator for 30 years and I do the same thing when trying to explain AI to people. Anyway, I will bookmark it and see if I can find another tutorial that starts at the absolute beginning.

  • @DarkandTwisted

    Nice tutorial! 👍 Yes, regular lip-syncing is very tedious, especially when you have long animations or multiple characters as I do in many of my animations. I've been using Flash since 2006. Adobe has come a long way. Question. What if there are multiple characters in a scene? How does this automated lip-sync method work?

    • @Chitchadshow
      @Chitchadshow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      If your characters are all inside their own symbols you can place the separated audio track inside those for each character. I would recommend spacing out the audio in something like Audition so the speaking lines have the necessary gaps as not to have the characters overlap each others audio. If the audio doesn't come through outside those characters symbols you could make another audio file that has all speaking lines in one track on the main timeline, that way you could still hear the audio without it affecting any of the characters. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!

    Hello ChitChad, I have a question about automatic lip sync. I have seen tutorials so far (including yours), that it looks like the mouth only moves in a still head, but then when I try to animate the head and mouth together in a puppet rig, the mouth stops moving or the head moves but the mouth stops talking/doesn't move. How can I animate the head moving while the mouth lipsync moves along with the head in a puppet rig? Do I have to actually create head symbols with the mouth and then connect the head to the neck in the puppet rig in Adobe Animate? I want to do it like how you did it in the ending of the video, where the lip sync MOVES with the head. Or did you use Character Animator for the combining the head and lip sync together? I wish you included this important step in your video for moving heads and lipsyncs. Many thanks for your help if you reply!

    • @Chitchadshow
      @Chitchadshow  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi there, without seeing how your character rig is set up I am not 100% sure this will be helpful but I shall try my best.
      First, yes! - all the character animation in this video was done inside of Adobe Animate. For example, the character I created uses a parenting link from the automated lip sync graphic to the main head graphic. When I apply a classic tween to the head graphic the mouth graphic will then move along with it because it's parented to the head. I would recommend processing the automated lip sync keyframes before applying any animation to the character and make sure each of those symbols (mouth, head, body, ect) are on their own layers.
      Also, the reason I didn't include rigging as part of this video is because that's a much larger concept with a number of different factors depending on style of animation and character design. It would not necessarily apply to everyone who uses this lip sync technique as it can be utilized both inside Adobe Animate as well as outside of it with programs like Character Animator, After Effects, ect.
      I hope this has been helpful and wish you luck with your animation project!

    • @paolaanimator
      @paolaanimator 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Chitchadshow Thank you so much for your response ChitChad! I will follow your parenting trick advice in the comment. How I set up my character rig is by connecting the body parts to the joint in the layers, head to neck, neck to body, hip to legs, etc.
      I created a character by following this video, "How to rig a simple character" by TipTut. Link: th-cam.com/video/EetloQGJ2yM/w-d-xo.html
      Thank you for letting me know about the rigging process, I'd love to see your video on rigging, your video on setting up the lip syncing is clear and helpful! I would love to learn other methods of rigging in Adobe Animate or Character Animate.
      Again, thank you for the reply and your advice, it really helps a lot and your animation is awesome! Have a lovely night/day, ChitChad! :D

      One way you could achieve that would be to have each mouth set on it's own layer all being synced to the same audio layer. Once they all have interpreted the audio you could simply delete the keyframes of the set you don't want visible during that part of the VO.

    is there a way to make it smoothy transition or shape-tween between each of these mouth shapes? ive seen it done in the early episodes of BFDI and CaryKH's channel and i like the effect, if not i can just make my own intermediate mouths
    edit: they also do it in family guy but i dont know if they use animate

      the way they do lip syncing in BFDI is super tedious, especially for those first few episodes where they classic tween it all, and yeah I don't really think you can do that automatically

    Thanks, I feel more confident giving this an attempt now! :)
    P.S. I think they're probably pronounced "vi"-"zemes" like after "pho"-"nemes"..?

    Is it possible to create automatic lip sync in after effects?
