    From my perspective, Tisas has earned three consecutive “A” grades for their .45 ACP 1911A1’s. They are excellent firearms and their price is extremely affordable. During the last 45+ years, I have owned several 1911A1’s . . . all Colts, Springfields and Kimbers. Without exception, they were - and are - all outstanding . . . however (and I’m including inflation in this statement), they were also fairly (occasionally very) expensive. I don’t doubt that Ken Hackathorn, Bill Wilson or HR Funk can routinely extract that last smidgen of accuracy from high-priced 1911A1’s, but I cannot. The plain fact is, I’d shoot as well and as accurately with a Tisas as with any other top-quality, -durability, and -reliability 1911A1. Therefore, were it the 1971 - and I was purchasing my first 1911A1 after returning from a very tough 18 months in the Pacific - I’d buy a Tisas (not a Kimber, Clot or Springfield), and I’d enjoy it greatly, use it for literally generations, and still attain exceptional relatability, durability and accuracy from it.

      I think Tisas will bring a lot more novice shooters back to the 1911 platform with a quality that is not sacrificed at the low price point. You could argue RIA and maybe Taurus got there first in the budget 1911s, buy frankly Tisas is doing it better.

      What!!!!!! Don't forget about Metro arms 1911s made in the Philippines called( American classic and American classic 2) around the same PRICE and the fit and finish and reliability are way more than what you pay for.

    Maybe not a tack driver, but a solid value in a basic commander length 1911. I would add it to the collection. 👍

      Put a Ed Brown trigger, firing pin floor plate, and Pachmyr rubber grips. Expert 1911 Gunsmith adjusted trigger pull to 3lbs. She shoots like a dream and is super accurate. WC firing pin and spring, Ed Brown ejector did not fit. He said the firing pin is short. Like the Taurus 1911. And that the flat wire recoil spring in it is excellent. He test fired it and said I would be really happy. Took her home yesterday and tested her in my backyard range. I shot several magazines full and could not stop firing it. Felt great in the hand. Super accurate but heavy.

    I'd say that getting THAT close to the tack counts in anyones book. Great shooting and thank you for helping us "regular" people get the low down on some affordable weapons. I know that there might be some Kimbers and Colts out there that are all shiny and pretty, but some of us like a nice solid pistol that allows me to buy it and then still be able to afford food for the table after a day at the range. Well done, Sir!

    Tisas is an outstanding manufacturer. I just added one of their 1911 Tankers to my ever growing 1911 family 😊. I am extremely extremely impressed with the quality and the value that you're getting. Precision forged frame, slide and no MIM parts. It's just incredible. I am already considering adding yet another sooner than later.

  • @topg9555
    @topg9555 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Definitely keep it! Based on your Part 1 review, I ordered a .45 Tank Commander, picked it up today. Better quality than Colt. Finish is perfect everywhere. All forged slide and frame, only one MIM part in the entire pistol (recoil spring plug). No sharp edges anywhere. Actual checkered double-diamond solid walnut grips - not "engineered wood" or some other thing. This is not merely a cheap import for the range, it is very solid! At these prices and quality not sure how long US manufacturers will be making 1911s.
    The only caveat is the barrel link fit has more vertical play in the barrel than I like. A local dealer who has seen several TISAS including the 1911 Ranger has found the same thing. I see some vertical stringing in your reviews, perhaps that is the culprit. Will test fire it this weekend and find out!
    Two quibbles: the thumb safety was well fitted but the plunger tube spring was very slightly shorter than GI spec so while serviceable, I replaced it and now the thumb safety has a more positive snap that I prefer. ($2 modification). Also, the mag catch is very stiff; might clip one coil off of the spring ($0 modification).

    • @hrfunk
      @hrfunk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Those plunger tube springs are one of the few weak points I’ve discovered in the Tisas 1911s. As you mentioned, they are very fast and inexpensive to replace. Please let me know how your new pistol performs when you get it to the range. Thanks for watching!

      @@hrfunk Finally got to shoot it last nite, 7 Yard indoor range. Went through 75 rounds including Winchester 230 FMJ, Federal 185 JHP, Remington 230 BJHP, Federal 230 HS, and 2 handloads with Hornady 185 XTP and a cast 200 SWC. Fed, fired, extracted and ejected all without a bobble. Used a variety of magazines including the two factory-supplied 7-rd magazines, which appear to be Checkmate design with wadcutter feed lips and the CMF skirted follower. Also functioned perfectly with USGI contract 7-rd mags (Checkmate mfg with original style GI feed lips and follower) and Chip McCormick 8-rd and 10-rd Power Mags with original style followers.
      Accuracy was excellent, average of all 7-rd groups was 1-inch, best were several 3/4" one-ragged hole groups. Prior to shooting I noticed the rear sight was not perfectly centered on the slide, and drifted it to correction. Shooting POI was dead-nuts on for windage and elevation. No vertical stringing, all well-rounded and centered groups. I did paint the front sight face orange to aid in sighting, especially for an indoor range. Can't wait to test the Tank Commander @ 25 and 50 yards later this week!
      Noticed in dry firing evaluation that slide-racking was stiff, and the pistol appeared to be over-sprung, as most factory 1911s are these days, especially if Tisas is taking advice from US industry "experts". Felt like a 20-lb recoil spring, which was also shorter than a standard Commander spring, wound tighter and had narrower and thicker coils. In shooting the pistol seemed to kick harder than it should be doing for a steel-frame Commander, and the 20-lb non-spec spring would explain that. Functioning was perfect, but afterward I replaced the factory spring with a standard Wolff Commander 18-lb spring, which was noticeably longer, and slide racking was also smoother and easier. Will test that next range session.
      Only one other problem in the testing, about 1/3 of the time magazine insertion was difficult when encountering the mag catch. Not uncommon with the 1911, but this was excessive to the point of the magazine coming to dead stop and requiring excessive force to seat. Afterwards, examined the Tisas factory mags and a distinctive vertical wear line was present on both mags from the feed lips to the mag catch slot. Removed the mag catch and the area below the catch shelf had a prominent ridge line. A few file strokes and some 400 grit paper reprofiled that area, and mag insertion is now flawless.
      These are minor issues IMHO, easily corrected, and the pistol is a solid value. Great find!

    Great review as always Howard. I had a TC in 9mm and it was outstanding. I only sold it when I ran into a classic old Dan Wesson 357 revolver I couldn't live without. I've still got a Tisas Sting Ray (alloy frame) in 9mm, and a B45B (steel frame) in 45. Both are commander sized guns with a bobtail grip. Love 'em both. They neither have ever malfunctioned, and pretty much hit where I'm aiming. That's about all I can ask them to do.

    As a firearms collector I also have a large collection of 1911's. From high end custom Kimber 1911's, Springfields, to Colt Gold Match, Wilson Combat, and government issued WWII 1911's. I now own two Tisas 1911's. Their 1911A1 US Army, and most recently the 1911A1 Tank Commander. While these guns don't compare to the high dollar custom guns, they are every bit as good as the standard issue government pistols. The Cerakote finish very closely matches the look of the parkerized WWII examples. Excellent quality and an incredibly good price. Hrfunk, I bought the standard Tisas 1911A1 US Army. Then shot my friends Tisas Tank Commander. Had to have one. He bought both as well. Keep that Tank Commander! You won't be disappointed! Just tell the wife you had to keep it for long term evaluation on your YT channel! Ha-ha! Whether a collector, a seasoned 1911 lover, or someone just starting out looking for a well made bargain priced 1911. These Tisas guns are well made and a great value. Well worth owning. For a defensive or duty gun, I prefer a double stack. For capacity reasons. But I would not hesitate to carry one of these if I had too. Thanks for the revue. Always enjoy your videos!

    While the Tisas Tank Commander may not be a Tack Driver, it's still very accurate for serious social concerns.
    While you have other Commander sized 1911's, I think the Tisas Tank Commander would make a fine addition
    to your 1911 Battery. Get a 1911 Tanker Shoulder Holster and carry it on occasion.

    What I like is the entire range test went without a failure, jam or miscue. When I think back to the 70s, several South American 1911 clones and European look-a-likes were on the market with some domestics to come along also. In general, those firearms were poorly made and deserved the title "jam-omatic". There still may be a few of those in production, but clearly the Tisas is several grades higher. And my final thought--- Tisas is creating 1911 fans initially with price and more importantly reliability.

    • @colt10mmsecurity68
      @colt10mmsecurity68 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      “Tisas… several grades higher…”. Not hardly.
      The 1911 design pretty much remained unchanged for 60 years, with “ball” ammo. With the advancement of hollow point ammo (which the 1911 was NEVER designed around), the older guns had to be “ramped and polished,” in order to feed HP ammo reliably. The user was primarily stuck with the task after purchase of the weapon. Clone manufacturers later began having polished feed ramps straight from the factory and that is what made the guns more “reliable.”
      Tisas isn’t doing anything more innovative nor anything more “spectacular” than what other modern manufacturers have been doing now for the past 30-40 years.
      Today’s modern 1911 has evolved with factory tweaks and Tisas as with other manufacturers have just jumped on the enhancement band wagon to make today’s 1911 ultra reliable. Tisas from Turkey, is nothing special.

You might remember me I Watched Your video on the M1A and commented on Your form which in my humble opinion was perfect. Never the less this is why I prefer the longer trigger on the 1911 INSTEAD of the 1911a1! Furthermore I STRONGLY suspect that while You were humble and criticized YOUR trigger control, I suspect the Tank Commander is not quite as tight with it,s bushing/barrel fit as it might be. Finally I LOVE a 200 grain ball round at as close to 1000 fps as possible. As A fellow shooter I MUST shoot with You one time before I die it would be a great honor!!

    Buy it. Another excellent review and you did some fine shooting with that Tank Commander. If you touch up the trigger you'll do even better. All of my Tisas 1911A1 pistols are full size. Well made, accurate and reliable, they are one of the best bargains on the market today. The smaller size of the Tank Commander is appealing and there could be one in my future.

    HR,
    I think you should buy it. I have several 1911 .45ACPs, namely an Auto Ordnance(with a 3 digit serial number), 2 Colt 1911 Series 70s, a Colt Ace with .45ACP conversion kit, Kimber Classic, and a Series 70 homebuilt Commander with a titanium frame, and I'm thinking seriously about picking up a Tank Commander, just because they're such a neat gun.
    Cheers,
    Zeke

    I just bought one of these for 299 locally at a place that runs specials (yes new in the box)... and that also included a 20 rnd box of remington 45 acp golden saber defense ammo... Strangely mine did come with Mecgar marked mags... It was too good of a deal to pass up. I hope this one shoots as good as my 1911A1 and my Raider... I also really like the wood grips on this one... Thanks for the review.

    This gun is a great gun to build upon and learn gunsmithing IMO. Bought a Tisas Milspec government, did my homework and went from 3” groups at 15 yds to 1” 8 rd groups by fitting a Wilson bushing.. 600 grit sandpaper and elbow grease and taking the trigger from 5.5 lbs to a consistent 4.25 lbs just doing a bit of polishing the trigger bow and track. The internals on mine were solid and the only thing I replaced was the trigger with a medium pad one, but the original after polishing works great as well. A little white out on the front milspec sight and it’s a accurate gun. This is my next purchase

    Commanders are great, but as you mentioned, they do take a bit of work to get used to. I liked that Raider that you reviewed. I think I may pick one of those up shortly. I do not need it, just want it. I prefer the 5" sized 1911 pistols. McCormick and Wilson mags are about all I use now. Both are rock solid. There are other ones, I just don't have them. Quality mags fix a ton of 1911 issues. Good shooting HR.

    I had both the 45acp and the 9mm 1911a1 Tank Commanders from Tisas. For me, the loss of barrel length on the 45 effected the normal accuracy I expect from my full size Remington Rand and Colt. However the 9mm benefits from a 4 and a 1/4 barrel. It shoots as well as my full size 1911s in 45acp. The sights on both are definitely better that my military 1911a1s, lol. Great range review, thanks so much for uploading.

So would you rather that be a Tisas or a CQB ne + ultra from the custom shop ?

    Good to see budget friendly option for a 1911. My first firearm 20+ years ago was a Kimber Custom that was $700 at the time (IIRC) and that was fairly pricey for a handgun back then. Today, a $700 handgun is only somewhat above a basic Glock, Ruger, S&W or Sig which can be had in the $400-$600 range generally, Of course there are all the "Gucci" guns that are in the 4 digit range.

    A little surprised at the groups from the rest. Otherwise held up well to 25 yards. I put red/orange paint on the front sight. And find it aids sight pick up and keeps groups centered. While I like hardball, have found my loads of 200 gr flat point for the Commander make for less recoil and rapid shots, traveling at around 900-925 fps. You don’t need another 45 so that settles it, keep it. Note my handle has changed on you tube to Desperado 3248. As I previously stated, they should offer this in an alloy frame version. I don’t need it , but would buy one

    I have the Tisa's Commander length 9mm "Stingray" Ambi safety is positive, trigger is perfect! I had some problems with mags not dropping reliably, but after a few dozen or so practice drops, mags are dropping free. Yay! It shoots way better than I do, but after watching this video, I need to see if I can drive a tack with it! OH, the "Stingray" has the Ed brown Bobtail grip (the only gun other that Ed Brown's pistols authorized to use it). I've had several 1911s and liked them all. The Bobtail is the most comfortable grip I've ever used.

      Here's the thing, with a good hit to vital organs, I don't think there's any real differnece in performance. Handguns are notoriously bad "stoppers" when compared to rifles and shotguns. Even so, imagine getting perforated anywhere on your body with a slug nearly half an inch in diameter. How do you think you would react?

    • @alexh4436
      @alexh4436 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@hrfunk True enough. The reason I ask is that blue states are enacting gun control like it is going out of style and there are / could be lots of people who may be severely restricted in the type of gun or ammo they can buy. The 1911 seems to not be scary enough to ban (at least for now) and a gun like the Tisas might be a good option for law abiding citizens who don't have the money to buy a name brand $1000 1911 or name brand revolver. Information on inexpensive guns like the Tisas 1911 is useful. Thank you for doing this, and I hope you do more.
