@Graham Forrest thanks so much for your reply. I got to the site thru google and I'm waiting for the hacking stuff now. Seems to take quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hi everyone - just an endorsement of the instrument - first yes Corey could make a $10 Christmas guitar sound like a martin - but that aside - I play in a band as many of you do - and we always like to get as close to the sound of a record/video as we can for the audience - and we found that adding an acoustic guitar was desirable - but - since I cover most of the leads it wasn't practical - just so you know I own a loved telecaster - and really loved threesome of Les Paul's - which are really heavy - a PRS and a Taylor acoustic - all are excellent BUT I was introduced to the Martin SC-13e by a friend who saw it on a video from Martin - and after watching I bought one - and I am so glad I did . If you primarily are an electric player - you will meet your dream in the neck and playing the instrument I still have to switch out for a lot of the southern rock but for a lot of it I don't and country leads and blues this Martin has it down! I got lucky and bought it while it was just coming out and got a great price - like everything else the price has gone up but the demand has gone up as well. The Martin SC-13e plays like an electric has a great sound and it has some great adjustments. The instrument is very much as good as it looks and sounds in this video. I have only ONE complaint so to speak - the volume and tone controls are concealed just inside the top of the sound hole - which can make getting to them for a very quick adjustment a little bit hard and if your playing on stage having to use a baffle it makes an on instrument adjustment impossible so I use the volume peddle on my board - Past that small complaint the instrument is all that it is advertised to be and I think you will be very very happy with it in a band or in your home great picker or just getting started ! I do use Martin # 12 Lights as opposed to a #10 or #11 just gets more sound BUT it works super with either gauge string.. Merry Christmas & God Bless Be well and stay safe!
I pre-odered one as soon as I saw it in videos from Winter NAMM in January. Can't wait to receive it (in late April to early May they told me). Thank you for making this video.
I've watched several videos on this guitar and feel that first of all, it will easily compete with anything similar that Taylor makes of similar size from the 200 through the 400 series. It's also one of the better and more innovative guitars for finger style players that Martin has come up with in a long time, and the price point is, in my opinion, perfect. It also "capos up" beautifully! The only negative aspect I see is that based on what I've seen and heard, the tonal aspects and design of the guitar lends itself to technical proficiency. In other words, a beginner or even intermediate player isn't going to get the tone out of this instrument they might expect.
@@coltongannon4818 Haha! That’s the acoustic guitar I own and don’t like very much. I like the neck and neck joint of the 13. I guess the Taylor GT will end my search whether I like it or not, haha!
I purchased an SC -10E 2 years ago. Love it and finished similarly to the one you are playing! Sound incredible. So resonant and bright with deep tones. My only grievance is Martin should be supplying the full maintenance kit with i instead of a separate purchase. The design is cool but there's a bit of an engineering trap given you can only make adjustments with the spacers provided in the kits you have to buy separately at $200 CAD.
So glad to see someone emphasize the intonation and action adjustments this guitar has. That and the neck shape are extremely attractive features to me. Plus the 13th fret neck join sounds like the sweet spot. I have acoustics joined at the 12th and 14th fret and have wondered why someone didn’t split the difference. The intonation on this video (even with capo) is a pleasure to hear. Yes, I’d like to hear a richer tone. Hoping Martin continues to evolve this design one or two steps up.
I just got one this week and am loving it so far! I'll be taking it out to gig all this weekend and am really looking forward to hearing it through the full system.
Owning a Martin I stumbled on this video. I think you could make a $200 guitar sound amazing. You are exciting to listen to because you play with such passion and emotion. I would love to take some lessons with you KD
Corey please more Accoustic tutorials please loved the Martin jam I watch and give your videos a bash on my Washburn box What you played blew me away more Accoustic tabs for us box guitarists would be more than greatly appreciated
I think Martin is really on to something here. I hope it’s a homerun, you can’t beat this innovation for the price they are charging. It’s a fantastic deal. The flexibility with the neck, the shims, and ability to adjust intonation in a whole new way is revolutionary. I will probably hold off buying this until they upgrade components to the GPCPA1+ standard with a Torrified/Kiln dried top. I have no problem paying the $3500 cost to get the better woods and such. And since I am talking to you, Corey, I know the Martin people will read this! Ask Mr. Boak to give it some thought!
This guitar is mind blowing! And I'm glad you did some thumbpicking a la Tommy Emmanuel, coz that's what I'm learning to do. Unfortunately you didn't use a thumbpick, but that palm mute in the outro still sounded pretty awesome! Some great playing there, Corey! I'm waiting for mine from Italy, my daughter hopefully bringing it for me in December! Can hardly wait for this beauty! Thanks so much! 😊
Seems like an acoustic to appeal to the electric player. A bit expensive for me though as I only dabble with acoustic. Pretty cool playing there Corey, I didn't know you were so handy with acoustic!
I pre-ordered one of these guitars from Sweetwater this morning. I'm so pleased to see your review. It's a bit un-nerving spending that much money on a guitar that I've never touched. But I counted on Martin's reputation and your review has set any qualms aside. This is my first Martin. Thanks for demonstrating the great sound and versatility too. Which equipment did you use in this video: amp? pedals? mic? P.S. Enjoying your recent blues courses on udemy (recorded at YGS studio. Cheers!
Incredible playing! Hey what do you have available in terms of courses/videos/instructionals that covers hybrid picking with more of an emphasis for implementing hybrid picking for solos and licks?
Hi Corey, and greetings to you from Ireland. I love the new Martin - (I have 2 Martins myself) - and I think the company has taken a very positive leap forward. Do you mind me asking what make the capo you're using in the video is? I see a lot of bluegrass players using them, but I don't think they're in the stores here. I really enjoyed your playing and demo of the guitar.
You'd most likely have to adjust the neck but, that's what this guitar is made to do. The adjustment inside the neck pocket is basically a shim to accommodate different gauges and quick adjustments
my complaint is the body depth, making it low projection with lacking bass. It wouldn't work for campfire guitar and now they are even making the d18 thinner depth!
@@coreycongilio Looks more that way, yeah. Better I guess for fingerstyle clarity et al, but I'd probably find myself missing some boom in the lower notes. Now if they put this on an actual dread....

Great video, thinking about getting one ,if changing to Martins extra light (10's) strings would the neck need shimming or adjusting? Thanks
You'd most likely have to adjust the neck but, that's what this guitar is made to do. The adjustment inside the neck pocket is basically a shim to accommodate different gauges and quick adjustments

I agree that they should make it in the higher category.
Sounds great...where are these made ?
Can't imagine Martin outsourcing this.
Nice shape, make an all wood version now please...
Almost looks as though the exaggerated cutaway leaves less surface area on your leg. Does it dig in, or does it feel like a regular dreadnought?
Martin made a Breedlove.
David Rothberg even with the micro adjustments for intonation? I don’t recall seeing that on a Breedlove?
I love that you just randomly start jamming in between sentences
Ha! I was going through an editing phase!
BTW, does this guitar come with the adjustment shims, or are they ordered separately?
Martin provides them to authorized Martin dealers when needed. I had mine changed out.
Hi, which is Better guitar? Sc13e or D12e?
Tough to say as they are very different. Depends on what you want
What is the difference between sc 13 e. And. Gpc 13 e have made up my mind yet have s D41 1987 model
A few differences actually. The neck joint mainly and overall body design.
Nice
Thanks
Corey can you teach us that song at 14mins? It sounds so good and groovy
How is this guitar when you put a slightly heavier guitar string on it than these Martins that come with the guitar
Haven’t tried it but, it would probably make it sound richer
Is it in the shops yet, I would like to play it so I can form an educated opinion.
I’m some yes. However, COVID really messed up their shipping and building.
What song is that he plays at time 4:22? I know I've heard it, but cant remember!
The first two chords are similar to Bread, I Want to Make It With You (1970).
Sounds very John Mayerish to me... like 'Daughters'.
Mine's still on Back-Order...
Awesome jam. Great sounding guitar but then it is a Martin.
Thx!
This guitar sounds twice as good in this video as in any other video. Why? Is it because Corey is playing and recording?
I appreciate that! I took a lot of time to capture the guitar’s sound the best I could.
Oh, btw, I'm in Zimbabwe, which is my homeland...
my complaint is the body depth, making it low projection with lacking bass. It wouldn't work for campfire guitar and now they are even making the d18 thinner depth!
It’s actually the same depth as a 000 or OM. The lack of bass most likely comes from the mahogany/koa back and sides
Why isn't this channel called Martin Guitar.
You’ll have to ask them! 😂
Did Corey reinvent the very way to play a Martin? 🎯
Hi Corey how would you categorise the acoustic tone of this guitar. Thank you
It’s definitely more in the category of Koa. Lighter and airier sounding. Not dense like Rosewood at all.
@@coreycongilio corey i assume that if im looking for a warmer tone i need to look for rosewood or similar to side and back. Thanks.
I would agree. Rosewood is great. I’m a fan of Mahogany too as it can be pretty warm when broken in.
