Ever try doing a rebuild on a 4l60 yourself? I ask because I wonder if I could buy one, rebuild it indoors in a shed and then keep it on reserve for if ever my 4L60 goes bad (hopefully in a long time 🙏). But is it doable by a regular person with tools, you think? Happy holidays btw, love your vids.
yeah if your doing it yourself give yourself a bunch of time, storage room and organizing. youll also need a couple hundred dollars of specialty tools, and other tools to make it possible to do the job. i rebuilt mine, it took a few weeks, and also everything has to be perfect, not like a motor where you can get away with leaving one cylinder dead. the power runs through the whole transmission, so if even one thing isnt spaced out right, or you forgot one part, you will have issues somehow. it would probably be easier to do what this guys doing, but time, learn on yt videos.. alot of ppl go very in depth step by step and just follow along{what i did}. it is very satisfying to have a nice transmission but mine has a leak from not doing the oil pump perfectly. just a lot and i mean a lot of stuff can and will go wrong if you arent ontop of your game thru the whole build. im a learning master tech, in my opinion, not worth the headache really but anything is possible and if your confident than go for it. just have a lot of patience.. transmission parts are very sharp, and if you havent rebuilt a motor or dealt with engine internals in general i highly reccomend to not touch the inside of a trans. from start to finish it took me around 40 hours to rebuilt it as i had a snap ring when i was done assembling my trans. i had to dissassemble everything, and start over and i pulled the trans back apart 2x because of this snap ring that i didnt know where it went.. just maybeeee not do it. however, fuck give me a 4l60e i can tear it apart and rebuild it within a day now confidently. just be prepared to have a ptsd scent to atf
Yes sir im waiting until I get more subscribers to drop an epic tear down and rebuild video but most definitely bro it’s not as “hard” as people and forums (lol) make it seem just have to make sure you take your time and do everything absolutely perfect not much room for error or leniency but it’s most definitely possible and a very fun puzzle!!! I’m self taught in everything 4L60E it took me a few years to nail it down to perfection but once you have it down it’s a skill you’ll carry with you for the rest of your life 💯💯 Thanks for watching!!!!
Hey man just subscribed to ur channel, I have a question I have an 05 avalanche 4x4 shifts good thru all gears, but 1 day I was leaving work put it in drive felt that it grabbed but didn’t move just reved put it in reverse same thing just reved and wont move, turn it off waited turn it back on and same thing wont move forward or back, then turned it off waited for a bit again, turn it back on shift to drive pressed the gas a little bit and made a bang noise started to move, but know in 1st and especially in 4th gear makes a whining noise like when your wheel bearing is bad, in 2nd and 3rd no noise, but it shifts fine, sorry for the long question. I know I have to replace it sooner or later, just want to get you opinion, have taken it to different mechanics and some say its one of the diffs or bearings. Thanks
power goes through your entire trans, your trans uses hydraulic pressure, hydraulic actuated solenoids. basically everything has to work and be in spec for it to function properly. with the conditions youve been describing and it being an 05 i think its safe to say trans is probably on the way out, they make a lucas trans fluid i think, it helps calm the sounds down in the trans if thats where its coming out from. i would probably check and change your diff fluid too
@ ok thanks man. Like I said in 4th gear is worse it’s not loud you just hear it whine whine whine, I down shift it to 3 manual and no noise, put it back in D it shifts back to 4th gear no problem all smooth and there’s the noise again. Ok I’ll do that and thanks again
Hmmm sounds like a oil pressure issue if it’s not moving back and/or forward like a worn pump with its springs gone and a damaged pump slide and pin or ready to give out probably as far as the bang goes it can be several parts inside the transmission could be a damaged sprag which i see most commonly on banging 4L60Es or sun shell or front/rear planet barely hanging on Hard to diagnose a transmission over the internet best to just pull it off and disassemble it and check part by part as it’s being dismantled
