So, which would you prefer... 1 - The first black character on screen in The Dark Knight Returns is a violent pimp that Batman beats the shit out of on top of a car, and then he still stays a bad guy... OR 2 - The fact that The Batman would've been over in an hour and a half if the ONE Latino guy in the movie, Officer Martinez, had a high enough clearance that he could look at evidence. Really cool character, played well, written well, memorable... but that doesn't change the fact that the entire case was cracked open by a Mexican stereotype. The cat burglar doesn't know what a carpet tucker is, the billionaire on a path of vengeance doesn't know what a carpet tucker is, the butler that used to be a British secret service agent doesn't know what a carpet tucker is, the straight-shooting Lieutenant surrounded by corruption and incompetence doesn't know what a carpet tucker is, and neither do any of the people who know whose been the mayor for the last twenty years. But thank God Officer Martinez has an uncle to installs carpet by hand.
1:03:50 - Agreed, but not because of The Dark Knight Returns. I get that the news sequences are meant to be exposition. That's not a problem - hell, the way they did "news" in Batman v Superman actually made sense. But when you get to movies like The Dark Knight, and The Batman, which are absolutely GREAT films... who the fuck is letting these people play these fucked up videos on the air, with no TIME for oversight in the first place? Heath Ledger's Joker keeps sending videos of him killing people and screwing with Mike Engel, and they're like, 'SHOW IT ALL ON THE AIR," and then literally three minutes after you hear Falcone and Kenzie killing Annika on Selina's voicemail, they're playing THAT shit on the air, too! Where the fuck is the FCC when you need them?
@@renaissancemanmedia2404I know man! I've been on a Batman movie kick and rewatching all the films and animated stuff the past month, I listened to all these commentary track pods when they first came out and remembered them being hilarious. That Batman begins pod was hard to sit through though. They both seem miserable. And they have weird talking points and focus on everything BUT the movie. Ever since this PC movement, Kevin Smith's pods just aren't entertaining because I feel like he's muzzling himself so not to be provocative or say something "out of line" I agree though, Batman begins is the best Batman live action film imo. I think TDK is a better movie but I enjoy Begins more as a Batman/ Bruce Wayne story.
Recently I have been going through some financially hard times. I have a link for a go fund me page to help pay my bills this month. Anything would be helpful. I'm an Afghanistan combat vet that is currently waiting on the VA to process my claim but my truck has broke down and I lost my job recently. Here is the link if you would like to help. Jim Apporo is the guy who made Batman grim and dark, Frank Millar sucks and has NO idea who he is writing. Batman Dark Knight Returns/Triumphant Superman Year One All Star Batman and Robin Are ALL TERRIBLE
JFC. Good commentary, but WE GET IT, KEVIN. You miss the voiceover. Every thirty seconds with the "now this is what you lose without the voiceover," "they changed this because there's no voiceover," "in the book this part had a voiceover..."
@@renaissancemanmedia2404 I mean, I get it but like, you've made your point, Kevin. Repeatedly. I almost stopped the commentary entirely. And he's STILL going on about it during the CREDITS of Part One! (I haven't listened to Part Two yet, but I assume it's more of the same.)
Kevs pods and comms are my happy place. They have gotten me through a lot these past 4 years. . thanks for the upload.
Same man. I'll do my best
Thank you for posting. We need to convince them to do a commentary for The Dark Knight. For charity. Would pay $25 for it.
Seriously!!!! How has this not happened yet my fucking god
I really want someone to ask him to make more commentary tracks at the next Fatmen Beyond Q&A
Maybe they couldn't figure out how to make it funny instead of just being like "this part is great" the whole time
That's the only one he hasn't done. He even did 2 for Rises
@@avace917 I know :(
We still need Marc and Kev to do The Dark Knight commentary
Yep
Part 2 begins at 2:10:57
God bless you for this! I remember hearing this years ago and have been looking for it ever since.
The genesis of the Mark Benard and Kevin Smith saga.
starts at

Someone should get AI to record the Dark Knight inner monologue using Weller's voice.
thanks for this mate
lol. I remember this back in the day when I didn’t know Marc was an African American.

Peter Weller is rad but they should've brought back michael Ironside from the animated series DKR short
Kevin and Walt Flanagan went on to write Batman in a series called “cacophony”

There was an episode of BTAS with a voiceover. When Batman gets gassed by the Scarecrow and winds up in Arkham. Can't remember the name of the episode
Dreams in Darkness
@@positivetakes5592 thank you!!
Is this the first time marc is on the podcast?
Yes
Kev and Marc need to do TDK and TDKR.
I don't see why they wouldn't.
I would say yes but when they did Batman Begins, I was kinda pissed. They just shit on the movie and Batman Begins is a great Batman film.

Sounds like Kevin is still smoking in this one. When did it air? EDIT: whoops, this vid is a couple months old - maybe from before he quit.
This is from 2012 and 2013. It was originally part 1 and part 2, but I spliced them together so you wouldn't notice.

@Mayydayy86 no, in part 2, he seems to have gotten used to no voice-over.
the point isn't to restate the fact it's to fill in what's missing from the comic for non readers
