To be fair, the was little to no communication between Grants Morrisons Action Comics run and George Perez’s New 52 Superman run in terms of continuity.
Every time I see one of these long Back Issues videos I'm reluctant to click on it but every single time I watch the whole thing and its over before I even notice. This was no exception
When I initially read this, I felt like it was amazing as a mainstream DC comic (seeing Gardner cuss was almost worth the price of admission alone), but a bit tepid as a Watchmen sequel (that's fine, though). The "every universe exists somewhere" thing was particularly mind-blowing at the time. I love to think that 90s JLI and campy silver age World's Finest and Camalot 3000 etc. etc. all "exist" out there somewhere along with the New 52 and Dark Knight and post Crisis DC. Watching this video makes me want to go back and reread this series again! Thanks!
My own theory comes from the fact that Marionette never questions anything regarding how mime kills people not did she argue the trip to the locker to pick up his gear in the prison. Also the angle in the panel after he shoots the goon in the head shows smoke coming out of the silhouette of a pistol. And in watchmen dr manhattan and ozimandias' created crazy tech advancements. So, like with the ink bloch mask I assume some company created a substance that made things invisible and he capitalized on it.
Been so excited for this. I called Doomsday Clock (complete collection) my favorite graphic novel of 2020 and my favorite work by Geoff Johns. A 3-hour Back Issues is the coolest way to end the year and bring in the new one.
Nope it's more like DC comics: everything is cannon but only ln that corner of the multiverse Marvel: everything is cannon but only when we feel like it. (Ex. Donald blake, Ironman starting in the 60's but still looking like he's in his 30's, spiderman still in high-school.)
The best part is hearing the passion coming from Sal. It brings so much life into the story, that Johns would want. I really lovethe ideas formulated throughout this story. Watching this video and remembering Dr. Manhattans whole scheme, it honestly reminds me of the Shin Megami Tensei lore the whole thing with the Axiom and the Great Will created Messiahs to stop YHVH from screwing up everything. The Great Will is just the meta universe and Dr. Manhattan is YHVH.
Man that was an adventure. My idea for the ending of this series was bringing in this character called Kid Eternity who can summon HIstorical and Mythical Beings. And he just summons Alan Moore and he just goes, "You were just a paycheck and nothing more" to Dr. Manhattan The End lol
For the record, there was in fact a new 52 legion of superheroes. There were at least 2 books, L.o.S and Legion Lost, which did a crossover with Teen Titans and Superboy. Another thing is that, in the New 52, Firestorm's origin didn't even have Martin Stein as a part of the duo, it was Jason Rusch and Ronnie Raymond as seperate individual Firestorms before they eventually formed a single individual (Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men). Johns didn't both to check the continuity of the characters, whose continuity was imperative to the story he was telling :/

I can not give this enough likes. I was so hyped for this story as well as this episode. Loved GJ's run on Green Lantern, and really thought they were going to reveal that the Hand of Creation was Dr Manhatton.. which obviously didn't happen. Though it could've been just looked at as a cash grab, I thought it turned out pretty well. It had the potential to be so much more.. but it had the chance to be much worse. In the end it landed somewhere in the middle. Thanks you guys for finally reviewing this!
The way I interpret the "rebirth" of everyone's histories is like the superman debacle. Post-crisis Kal merged with New 52 Superman and now they kind of have a shared history. The same concept, but universe-wide. A shared post-crisis/New 52 timeline.
I love this story. It is hopeful and I don’t feel anyone really acts unreasonably out of character to serve the story, which seems to happen in stories
If you want to get REALLY knee deep in continuity, Alexander Luthor in Infinite Crisis (15 years ago) mentioned that “Everything comes from Superman” in relation to altering the multiverse

Proud of you guys for going this far and still keeping on the rails when all was said and done.
Here's to many more and I hope you all have a damn good new years eve and a better new year.
“Superman landed 25 years ago, so the 80’s” sorry to make y’all feel old but that’s 1995
“25 years ago” from Flashpoint would be 1986, so it kinda works
@@SpiralSine6 ahhhh fair enough
@@SpiralSine6 yeah the big problem is that Flashpoint came out nine years ago.
:(
wait so Rebirth Clark is only 25?
89.8k were almost to that 100k guys Im so happy for y’all! Thanks for making this year less drab for all of us, hopefully yours went as well as it could Sal! 2021 is gonna be ComicPoP’s year!
Man, i remember watching this while waiting for my Covid Test. Kept me entertained the whole time, thanks Sal!
The thing that confuses me is that there is a Legion in the New 52 in the second arc of Grant Morrison’s Action Comics
To be fair, the was little to no communication between Grants Morrisons Action Comics run and George Perez’s New 52 Superman run in terms of continuity.
I think stuff got reordered when Superman Reborn timeline merger happened.
Superman’s speech to Manhattan made me legit cry. Beautifully written Superman moment.
Every time I see one of these long Back Issues videos I'm reluctant to click on it but every single time I watch the whole thing and its over before I even notice. This was no exception
I liked doomsday clock a lot, too bad johns lost control of dc and everything went back to new 52 territory after this story ended.
ah yes, the new 52 with lots of pre 52 characters making their return and a infinite omniverse instead of 52 universes
@@franktheavocado7573 i think he means the grimdarkness of the new 52 hence why he said new 52 territory
Thanks!
I just figured mime painted all his stuff with invisible paint given that Rochach's mask is a thing in that universe
I thought it was mirrors since his family owned a glass shop it could have played a part in his origin
I always presumed that Mime was telekinetic.
In summery:
DC Comics: Everything is canon.
Marvel Comics: Nothing is canon.
Nope it's more like
DC comics: everything is cannon but only ln that corner of the multiverse
Marvel: everything is cannon but only when we feel like it. (Ex. Donald blake, Ironman starting in the 60's but still looking like he's in his 30's, spiderman still in high-school.)
The best part is hearing the passion coming from Sal. It brings so much life into the story, that Johns would want. I really lovethe ideas formulated throughout this story. It may not be perfect, but the Manhatten/Superman stuff is honestly really beautiful to listen too. Great job Sal, happy New Years to the Comic Pop team!!!!
2:03:57 my favourite moment of the episode
What a way to end the year; Sal, Ben, Ethan, Tiffany, thank you for making this horrible year tolerable with the content you put out. Always makes my days much better when I get a notification that tells me ComicPop has a new video. Happy New Year’s guys and lady!! Be safe and here’s to a new year full of new content 🍾
This is truly back issues: the movie
"If we´re gonna piss on Alan Moore's face, might as well do it full stream."
- Geoff Johns, probably
*Uploaded 43 minutes ago*
this is about to make this 8 hour car ride some much better
Conceptually I like the black freighter interludes, it kinda parallels the way Jon sees the world. Split up between different times and scenes
Oh boy. What a way to end this year. Thanks to everyone in Comicpopland for everything this year ye guys keep on keeping on. Happy New Year Sal,Tiff Ben,Ethan and not to forget Danielle....which i did when wishing you guys a merry xmas.
Danielle is still in comicpop? 😮
Can we get a 3+ hour couch session for Watchmen!!! This is so awesome. More videos this length please. Take all the time you guys need (when applicable of course 😂).
Man, aside from RLM I can't think of another channel that is this consistently entertaining, thanks doods.
Listening to this again made me realize that the new DC movie universe needs a Coulson not necessarily a Fiege.
WOWSERS!! Didn't expect to see this book getting covered this year. Sal is full of surprises.
12/30/20 @ 10:15pm- gonna spend the first hour of 2021 with the comic pop family. Thank you for always being a source of entertainment and comfort for me...i wish for comic pop and the population a blessed 2021.
I was 1 hour in, looked at the episode length and said “3 hours!!” 😂 sure is a good day
This is easily my favorite episode of Back Issues
"I know how to make air!"
"DO YOU?!"
Took me back to No Game, No Life. Because, no, odds are he really wouldn't.
I love this story. It is hopeful and I don’t feel anyone really acts unreasonably out of character to serve the story, which seems to happen in stories
Good lord, 3 hours?! Making me feel bad for not getting you guys something for Christmas
If you want to get REALLY knee deep in continuity, Alexander Luthor in Infinite Crisis (15 years ago) mentioned that “Everything comes from Superman” in relation to altering the multiverse
My Therapist: The 3-hour Back Issues isn't real, it can't hurt you.
The 3-hour Back Issues:
I stop reading comic books for 20 years and come back to this. Amazing.
Love it when Sal's answer to a question is Yes!...but...."
Doomsday Clock is also just a great name for 2020
Nothing ever ends Adrian nothing especially Doomsday clock :)
@@judeconnor-macintyre9874 lol indeed and you're right about that
I'm a big Wildstorm fan & arguably Grifter looks awesome but I have no idea where this new affinity for him at DC has come from. My guess Tynions a WS fan. I've always been more of a Stormwatch, Authority, Gen13, Planetary type of guy.
HOLYSHIT.
I've had such a terrible morning and im in the middle of thr street with my car broke down as I type.
But this...puts a smile on my face.
The longest back issues ever? (I think besides Torment live)
Anytime Geoff Johns and Gary Frank work together it makes the big happy
"Did ya get that thing I sent ya?........Dat thing I sent to you?"
