    Enjoying this new format. Agreed with the assessment of polar pattern and a good reminder how the sound isn't all about the mic. 👏👏

      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Right? I think sometimes we get so used to plugging a mic into whatever box we’re using, especially for what we do, that it’s easy to think of a mic’s own sound as a limitation rather than a jumping off point. Some mics lend themselves to shaping more than others, and luckily this is one that adapts to shaping quite well.

    WOW! This is freaking GOLD! It's a hair more sibilant than I was expecting, but it's less sibilant than 416 so it's well within spec.
    I also really do love that Hyper sound, I'll have to try my T2 with hypercardioid more

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff

      Thanks Jar! I didn’t de ess it either so a quick pass of T-De esser would probably remedy it.

    A mic that's so easy to listen to, especially when it's your voice coming through.

      It is and you really just crystallized it in a way I had been trying to put my finger on. It is a very easy to listen to mic indeed.

    It is really interesting how taking the video away makes you (or me, at least) listen more to the sound. There's something about a visual that messes with perception of sound!

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Totally agree. Listening to a mic while watching one use that mic is kind of an unnatural way to judge a mic’s true sound because our minds are actualized to prioritize visual cues over auditory, so not only is video a distraction, but also a diversion from the intent of demonstrating what the darned thing sounds like.

    I could listen to this all day. Very easy to listen to Mark. I'd be interested to know how it sounds on the MT48. On another note, thanks to your review of the MT48, I traded in my Apollo for the MT48. I would be interested to know how you would EQ the TLM103. Keep blessing lives Mark.

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Thanks Frank! I will put it through the MT-48's preamps. Good idea. Congrats on the MT48 upgrade! The 103? Hmmm... I think what I'd mostly be focused on is a low end roll off so that it doesn't sound too bloomy and once you tighten that up, try maybe a roll off at 15k if it's sounding too peaky for up close work. The MT48 has a fairly obvious learning curve, but once you get close, start saving EQ presets and evolve them as your ears get recalibrated to what those incredible MT48 preamps are bringing to the party.

    • @frankblock7261
      @frankblock7261 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Thanks for the feedback Mark! When you suggest low end roll off are you referring to the pre or the EQ or both? I'm very much looking forward to the audiobooks (that's my jam as a full-time narrator) 🙂Thanks again Mark!

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@frankblock7261 Personally, I prefer a filter over a Low end EQ roll off, but with the MT48 HPF only going to 80hz, you may want to first experiment with a Low Cut and roll it up as high as it needs to go. With a 103, I may think that 90hz Low cut is necessary. You may even have to go higher. The way to demo it is make a few different recordings at different roll offs and then play them on your phone and listen if the low end is too dominant and affecting how your midrange presents. Once you get a good balance where you feel like you're getting enough of that important midrange, you're probably there.

    I had to replay this, after I got a DIY Jensen Twin Servo with John Hardy potted components. I currently use an AKG C-214 but also have Duffy's OSB Nano87 on deck. Love the solo audio format.

      Nice. I bet that Duffy's mic sounds pretty darned good though that thing, too.

    The microphone prostitute LMBO LOL !!
    The Microphone Assassin is epic :).
    MicTech would be a good name for a channel especially if you feature your DIY builds.
    I like the 4400 does have a nice presence to it but it has some sibilance in the 5 - 6kHz range that is hard to remove without sound degradation.
    Good job !!

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  หลายเดือนก่อน

      If I change it to the Microphone Prostitute, what do you think about changing my signoff to "Hey Sailor!"?
      Sibilance is always an issue for me, but it's been very manageable with the 4400 with T-DeEsser v2. This track on the podcast was not De-Essed.

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff "Hey Sailor" is a definite :).
      I think your channel and what you are doing has great potential so I would keep PG...😁
      Yes indeed, the pesky sibilance...
      That's not bad at all with no deeser and no EQ? Wow... !!
      Yeah, a 520 would take care of it too...
      Good job man !!

    It's a very nice inoffensive sounding mic... possibly best for acoustic guitar? I got one to try through Amazon, and some weird anomaly happened with the price, meaning I got it for 395 bucks. I feel I don't really need or have to have it, but can't bring myself to return it at that price.

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It’s such a good all-rounder that you can really shape with the pre you use. Try it in hypercardioid. This is definitely one to keep, especially at that price.

    Which mic would be your choice for VO ( female voice if this makes a difference) se4400 or Baifeili v5? Or any other mics? My budget is around $350 and the se4400 currently fits my budget used.

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      SE4400 for sure because it is more versatile, built better and will take you further. The V5 is an interesting curiosity because it’s a good one trick pony at a bargain, that sounds good on me but I’ve heard from a couple of people that they didn’t like it on them. The 4400 has gotten praise from a lot of people I know, so I take that as evidence it’s a very good mic on many different sources.

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoffThank you for the quick response! What about in terms of preamps and audio interfaces with the 4400? As you can tell, I am quite new to this and am not quite ready to invest a larger sum of money just yet. Again, thank you.
