I can't believe Neil Peart is gone. He and Rush have been such a huge part of my life, and there will never be a better drummer or rock band IMO. I've listened to thousands of hours of Rush music, and it will be forever entwined in my DNA. This is a very sad day for me, for all Rush fans, and for music in general.
My sincere condolences. Although I was never a big Rush fan I so respected them as one of the best rock trio in history and Neil Peart as one of the best drummers and best lyricists around.
So many cruel ironies in Neil's hope for the future. He seemed like a man constantly caught between lives, yet always turning circumstance into opportunity and making the most of every day. Neil was my hero for over 40 years, but l never felt the need to meet him.....to quote Sam Elliot in The Big Lebowski, "I don't know about you, but I take comfort in that. It's good knowin' he's out there".
I hear you. I feel the same. His impact on me was more than just the music, his skills, his lyrics etc. Those talents were impressive without question. The sum of all that was impactful.
Josh M I feel like you do. They had a fiercely loyal fan base that knew no boundaries, (although I’d be lying if I didn’t mention how proud I was to share Canadian 'blood' with RUSH). That 3 Musicians could create a wall of sound and reproduce each song in a live show just as well, or better, is amazing. I only got to see them twice, but...I got to see them twice. Never again will those three friends create something new, not even to have a conversation, hard to accept. My heart goes out to the 'Lee' & 'Lifeson', and Peart families.
I'm so grateful Neil came out of the shadows a bit and did more interviews and press appearances in his later years. It's such a gift to have his voice and thoughts to leave playing as we all mourn his passing. He was an exceptional soul.
Absolutely, this past week for me has been going back to listen to this well spoken, intelligent man who has experienced so much in life both good and bad. We have lost a truly gifted artist and human being.
Neil was a master craftsmen but let’s not make him out to be a god who bears “gifts.” None of us personally knew him. We only knew of his awesome playing and some of his personal thoughts. That’s it. He seemed to be a cool guy but nobody here knows; he could’ve been a major prick for all we know. Neil had a very full life and experienced things that not to many people get the chance of doing. I’m sad for his family and friends but as far as being in mourning.........come on peeps.
Whether he inspired you with his drum stick or his pen, this is a man who defines the right way to live life on this earth. Thank you for your humble lessons Professor.
It feels like I lost someone close to me even though we've never exchanged a word. I can remember the anticipation of a new release and the joy from playing it over and over and how frustrated some friends would get from my incessant promotion of their music. I haven't the words for all they've brought into my life. Life won't be the same without them.

He sounds so vibrant and excited here; classic Neil, and this isn't even that long ago; must have been right before his diagnosis - how his world was just on the cusp of changing to tragedy again. It's beyond heartbreaking :( But man what a great interview, this typifies his humble intellect and thoughtfulness and appreciation for being in the position Rush has been in. Truly one of a kind
According to the few "insiders" to the group who were made at all privy to his illness, his diagnosis wasn't until after he had opted to retire from drumming. This interview was just before the band would go out on what would be their "farewell" tour (though it wasn't fully decided nor publicized as such--Geddy and Alex, as well as fans, held out hope the band might continue to work together in some kind of capacity even if they didn't do actual tours in the future). But at this point, Neil was simply "over" (mostly because of the physical rigors he felt his body was getting too old to hold up under) the notion of being a touring musician, and wanted to spend his time at home and with family. His sentiments would prove somewhat prophetic, given his remaining time was going to be tragically limited.
On Jan.16,2020, I heard about the passing of Neil Peart. A musician I knew absolutely nothing about. Let alone the group, Rush. Over these past many weeks, I have had the privilege through his videos, his interviews, and the performances of Rush, to feel the very deep pain of the death of Neil. A true Renaissance Man, who is sorely missed but greatly remember.
Still hard to just sit there and listen to Rush or an interview with Neil, even over a year later. I have to be doing something when I listen because if I just sit there and listen I end up on the verge of tears. Neil's mind and way of looking at the world was so rare and beautiful. His story about listening to the rap station is such a perfect example of it.
I could not listen to a rush song or hear anything from Rush for at least a year after he died, I have never been so upset and shaken- so unexpected. They have been my #1 band since hearing “a farewell to kings” in about 1977
Jim Ladd was/is a legendary DJ on the West Coast for decades who was well known and respected by the artists. As a DJ, he represented the free form radio Neil wrote about in the Spirit of Radio. "Begin the day with a friendly voice A companion unobtrusive Plays that song that's so elusive" Well, Ladd was a bit obtrusive, but it was all about the music. He knew his shit, and you learned something new every time you tuned into his show.
With a heavy heart I would like to say to the family & friends of Neil Peart, you have my sincerest and utmost condolences! What a profound loss this is. The world is a little bit darker now without you in it Neil, you will be missed and never forgotten. 😢
Man, this guy has come along way in his willingness to share his personal thoughts.When I was growing up in the 80s, he was like a ghost in terms of his interaction with the media. What a transformation.
Very well said " thinks his words vs just saying them" that truly is a lost art in modern communication- people are not listening to you to hear what you have to say , they are anxiously waiting for to opportunity to interrupt and hear themselves talk unfortunately
I cant express how much i loved this. Mr. Peart gave me ideas to consider through his music, that I was ignorant too. If I think about them now, and it still floors me that I filled my life with the ideals that this person gave me through his lyrics and musicianship are priceless. I wish i could thank him. But if I can't then I'll try and live out the remainder of my life with those ideas that I was so fortunate to have been exposed to with Rush and Mr. Pearts influence. I'm so fucking grateful ❤

I know, Ironlord2015, hard to hear Neil talk about "when I'm in my 80s" referring to his drumming mentor Freddy Gruber. He was taken way too soon, but the gifts he left us are immeasurable! This was a great interview!
I had the honour of being part of the audience june 11 1976 at massy hall as all the worlds a stage was recorded!! I always believed Neil could have been a great canadian politician! But he has far surpassed that with what he has given and left the whole world !
I used to listen to Jim Ladd on KMET in LA when I lived in San Diego. Many a night fell asleep listening to his incredible show in the late 70's early 80's. The perfect man to interview the master.
2010 I took my Son to his first rock concert, from the beginning of Tom Sawyer to the end of the show, my Son was mesmerized, as he said, Dad they are really f.n. good " I just smiled and grooved along. The music and the smell of the funky weed, made a great memory.
I have allot of peace in knowing this man lived every day like it was his last. That was a full life and I hope more people learn from him. Incredible interview and insightful reflections on what matters.
Let's truly hope that God grades on a curve, for Neil Peart did wonderful, gracious acts of kindness for many people through a purposeful life. RIP Neil. There will never be another like him.
Neil didn't believe in God. Neil claimed to be an atheist, and that you take a dirt nap forever when you die. Why should he get a pass. Fortunately God can forgive egregious sins. God doesn't grade on a curve. All are sinners that have freewill. God forgives everyone who believes Jesus is God. It is the only path that leads to freedom. All other paths lead to destruction and are built by liars. You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice, if you choose not to decide you still have made a choice, you can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill, I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose freewill. Neil clearly chose a celestial voice to listen too. Clearly chose not to decide about God. Clearly chose freewill. If Neil has freewill he cannot bow to the power of God unless he believes in Jesus. Freewill means he thinks he is God, and God doesn't make the decisions about what happens in the universe, but Neil does. This is the same stance Dio takes, claiming not to believe in a supreme being or Jesus, but yet calls himself God himself. Dio = God in Italian. Sorry Neil, freewill is an illusion created by the Devil. If you want to live forever, you have to do what is right and obey the 10 commandments, and love your neighbor as yourself, and God above all. Since we all fail at obeying the 10 commandments, we need redemption, and this is why we love God above all, because he gave us a role model of a perfect being in Jesus. If we do what he did we would be perfect, since we can't, we have to ask him for forgiveness to get into heaven. This is the truth, and just because Neil doesn't/didn't believe it, it doesn't save him from death. Freedom and Freewill are not the same thing.

He was an iconic musician in my life - an influential philosopher for me as well. He helped encourage me think critically about politics, the nature of reality, and colored the way I life. What an amazing body of work - His music and his words.
He was an inspirational an exceptional human being. I have listened to so many hours of Rush music in my life it will always be forever entwined in me. As a drummer I have great admiration for the man they call Pratt... his lyrics have shaped my life compelled me to be a free thinker it helped me always deviate from the norm and be a free thinker. I followed my own path cuz we all choose a free will. And Neil and Rush's music help me understand that and believe in myself..... and be the best human being possible. Its hard to believe that the greatest drummer ever is gone but never forgotten how can you ever forget your hero... I miss you Neil!!!! cheers to the professor. Neil Peart is a Canadian treasure. I have been a fan of his excellent drumming for 4 decades, and his lyrics for over 3 decades. But he was more than that. He is an international and Canadian Great. A truly wonderful and deep soul. He should be enschrined in our culture; in our tales we tell, and songs we sing.
This is, by far, the best interview I’ve ever heard with Neil. I can’t express how much his work has influenced and enriched my life. Hearing him express himself so openly is a very cool thing. If he were to read my comment, of course, it would cause him discomfort…yet it’s true, nonetheless. What a special person he was. I miss him.

Neil was an atheist... unless he had a change of heart toward the end, which none of us will ever know. It's interesting that intellectuals sometimes have the hardest time believing in God, needing some kind of empirical scientific proof of something that cannot be touched or measured.

Wow, it's painful but at the same time heart warming listening to this interview. I remember interviews from back in the 80's and compared to today's, or this interview, he's come a long way and is much more relaxed and less cynical.

This is coming from a guy who came from an ethnic background where such a thing was not possible. Gradually, my 2 brothers are finally in the same camp as me, though not quite there when encountering intense beauty. I intensely identify with great artists. Not meaning I was ever as good as them.

What a beautiful , great , awesome story. Rush was one of the bands I used to play air drums, because they put out so many different changes and different kinds of music..So I bought a new 5 piece Tama drum kit and started playing which was back in the 70s 2112 was the song that inspired me to start playing drums and of course YYZ came on and said wait a minute that's an awesome song.. I'm 57 now and still Love Rush.. of course so sad about the passing away of Neil Peart he for sure will be missed such an awesome drummer..he went through so much in his life.. Rock on Rush..
They didn't know what was coming out of the mold when they made this guy.... his literary skills and the twisted way his songs find the right nerve that people who would have nothing in common can find meaning in his words.. despite having totally different opinions of what the song means .. its given them a common bond to respect each other and puts them in the same place emotionally and rationally.. then you remember that he was a true master percussionist.. you'll live forever through your music.. rip Neal
I can tell you another fantastic drummer who does not do that, Carl Palmer of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, saw them several times, could not take my eyes off him, i'm a drummer playing in that vein. And there are so many other drummers that are that great.
Scott Jennings, those tunes are priceless masterpieces. My vintage Power Windows album is in a frame, hanging on my wall. The cover shows many scars from thirty-plus years of existence. I played that album over and over for a year. I also think of Countdown, Middletown Dreams, The Manhattan Project. Big Money really floored me. His drums sounded incredible, and different. I think he played Ludwig for that album. His acoustic sound was enormous, but his electronic voice was just awesome. Mystic Rhythms was played as close to eleven as I could manage.
94.7 KMET Jim Ladd dropped the needle on the first track off of Moving Pictures. That was in 1981. Just a note from a life you left your mark upon. RIP Neil Peart.
Cheers for this upload! His voice and Rush’s ethos has always resonated in my heart. I am fortunate to have seen them many times, including the last 4 performances ever with my closest Rush brethren. If we’re lucky to live long enough, we’ll die from cancer or with cancer scars in our vessels. I can only wish The Professor had minimal suffering to his end. The Watchmaker keeps to his schemes, and life’s only promise will be here soon enough. That is the gift of life, and we’re all part of it. Cheers to finding the most excellent thing you can do today. It will when it earns it again. There are some great bands that do. But rock got extravagant and empty like most hip hop is now. It'll be back when it finishes learning from its mistakes.

Aside from noting there obvious brilliance in everything they have given us Rush Fans throughout the years, These three guys are some of most down to earth and intelligent artists around, I have recently watched Geddy Lees interview on Speak Easy on PBS and not only was an insightful informative and even candid interview, Geddy had even had included his questions on the interviewers music. Totally showed me that they arent the typical egotistic Rockers. Neil is the focal inspiration for me when i had my own personal situations which i was at the end of my rope. And i feel the exact same way about The Lonesome Cowboy himself!

This was on the cusp of Neil getting the diagnosis. What a beautiful soul. As a fellow drummer who copied every note and flam stroke, my heart is just broken. This one really hurts. BAD
I feel the same. As a lifelong amateur drummer, enjoying all of those hours as a kid trying to figure out his drum parts. It was like communicating on a different level with someone you admired. Still hard to believe Neil is not here anymore.
4 years ago and this interview really strikes me deep now knowing not too long after this interview he would have been diagnosed with a literal death sentence . . . . never in my wildest nightmares! we will all miss your talent. I know he would be done drumming but I always held out hope there would be much more writing.
I've been to many concerts over the years (I've seen them 10 times) and I can tell you that Neil Pearts' is the only drum solo that has never caused anybody to head for the johns or to go get a beer.
Yyz baby,every show!!! I swear every single cymbal was rocking on his kit! He hit them all in such an incredible blur of synergistic talent it astounded me always! As much as I would've liked to have met him,i always remember his lines from limelight, I can't pretend a stranger is a long awaited friend, to me it seems a sadly cold line,but his truth no doubt. R.i.p. Neil.
I was so moved by Neil's story about the little old lady in her Buick that he met at a gas station, who called out to Neil and his travelling companion, "I'll pay for your gas if you'll pay for mine!"..... He was so delighted by that interaction. Sadly, there is a large portion of the population who might laugh about the lady's comment, but then behind her back, they would say, "What a weirdo!" or something negative about her. Thank goodness there are still some, like Neil, who see the beauty in the courage of being open and willing to reach out to strangers with love and humor!
Exchanging pleasantries can make a big difference in someone's like. Even a simple "have a nice day" can really make people happy. Plus, it's good for Neil, because he appreciated being seen as just "a guy" and not "Neil Peart, famous drummer from Rush".
A bit like when you have a cake and you have to decide how to share it out. We'll you have one person slicing it and the other gets to have first pick.
Please if I may infer a phrase I have heard often this past sad week.. Neil Peart was "your favorite drummer's favorite drummer ". I regret not focusing as much on his brilliance during his life. His Spirit will live on. After hearing this wonderful artist speak, I yearn to be a better husband, father, and provider.

I just want to say thank you to the creators of sirius radio ( I hope you make zillions) and especially the DJ's on "deep tracks" who are music lovers to the core. this is my "go to" station 95% of the time and I cannot tell you how many times I've pulled over between meetings to listen to some insane track by little feat or some new band who really has the talent to go places. Truly the resurgence of "free form" radio .......................

Simply put: Jim Ladd is unequivocally the GREATEST radio personality of all time. I'd moved from a small Midwest town (Libertyville, IL) in 1975 to Westlake, Village Ca. I had always spent all my free time listening to and analyzing music and music personalities. No other Radio "DJ " EVER stuck me more as a charismatic perfectionist through the airwaves as Jim. I was so blessed to be able to tune him in each evening on the local LA radio station KMET. Now, to be able to hear him again on these You Tube vids as well a XM, he's truly an anomaly in "free-form" dj's and his station management knew this and simply always left him the f##% alone! Thank you Jim and soo honored to have lived while you were broadcasting. Rock on 🤘 and again THANK YOU
Neil has such a beautiful way of saying things. I also like his deep voice and also his prononciation. As a French speaker first language, I don’t always understand super well when someone doesn’t articulate and speak too fast. He speaks calmly, have a nice deep voice. This is strength. He’s an oak, a big tall oak. It still makes me cry when I watch or listen to an interview… or listen to The Garden.
A magnificent human being... All 3 share that. Ridiculously talented with such drive yet humble to a fault. So much more than a master musician... a master human being with a private nature. RIP Neil... you've done so much for all of us. You shaped my teenage years with your buddies, and gave purpose to the man I've become. If I believed that death brought an absolute end, I might be more upset with "losing you" but you are not lost at all Neil... you're just back with the Master of Masters... I'll be very curious to see what you will bring us during your next incarnation... We're short a legend now professor... come back to us soon!

I'm so grateful Neil came out of the shadows a bit and did more interviews and press appearances in his later years. It's such a gift to have his voice and thoughts to leave playing as we all mourn his passing. He was an exceptional soul.

Absolutely, this past week for me has been going back to listen to this well spoken, intelligent man who has experienced so much in life both good and bad. We have lost a truly gifted artist and human being.

Neil was a master craftsmen but let’s not make him out to be a god who bears “gifts.” None of us personally knew him. We only knew of his awesome playing and some of his personal thoughts. That’s it. He seemed to be a cool guy but nobody here knows; he could’ve been a major prick for all we know. Neil had a very full life and experienced things that not to many people get the chance of doing. I’m sad for his family and friends but as far as being in mourning.........come on peeps.

It feels like I lost someone close to me even though we've never exchanged a word. I can remember the anticipation of a new release and the joy from playing it over and over and how frustrated some friends would get from my incessant promotion of their music. I haven't the words for all they've brought into my life. Life won't be the same without them.

Rush was part of my education. I learned and discovered a lot through Neil's lyrics. Such an influence and above all an inspiration.

He sounds so vibrant and excited here; classic Neil, and this isn't even that long ago; must have been right before his diagnosis - how his world was just on the cusp of changing to tragedy again. It's beyond heartbreaking :( But man what a great interview, this typifies his humble intellect and thoughtfulness and appreciation for being in the position Rush has been in. Truly one of a kind
According to the few "insiders" to the group who were made at all privy to his illness, his diagnosis wasn't until after he had opted to retire from drumming. This interview was just before the band would go out on what would be their "farewell" tour (though it wasn't fully decided nor publicized as such--Geddy and Alex, as well as fans, held out hope the band might continue to work together in some kind of capacity even if they didn't do actual tours in the future). But at this point, Neil was simply "over" (mostly because of the physical rigors he felt his body was getting too old to hold up under) the notion of being a touring musician, and wanted to spend his time at home and with family. His sentiments would prove somewhat prophetic, given his remaining time was going to be tragically limited.
Everybody dies. But not everyone lives an amazing enriched life like Neal Peart did.

On Jan.16,2020, I heard about the passing of Neil Peart. A musician I knew absolutely nothing about. Let alone the group, Rush. Over these past many weeks, I have had the privilege through his videos, his interviews, and the performances of Rush, to feel the very deep pain of the death of Neil. A true Renaissance Man, who is sorely missed but greatly remember.
How can you not be inspired by this man? Brilliant! Thank you Neil!
Still hard to just sit there and listen to Rush or an interview with Neil, even over a year later. I have to be doing something when I listen because if I just sit there and listen I end up on the verge of tears. Neil's mind and way of looking at the world was so rare and beautiful. His story about listening to the rap station is such a perfect example of it.
I could not listen to a rush song or hear anything from Rush for at least a year after he died, I have never been so upset and shaken- so unexpected. They have been my #1 band since hearing “a farewell to kings” in about 1977

Jim Ladd was/is a legendary DJ on the West Coast for decades who was well known and respected by the artists. As a DJ, he represented the free form radio Neil wrote about in the Spirit of Radio.

Well, Ladd was a bit obtrusive, but it was all about the music. He knew his shit, and you learned something new every time you tuned into his show.

I cant express how much i loved this.
Mr. Peart gave me ideas to consider through his music, that I was ignorant too. If I think about them now, and it still floors me that I filled my life with the ideals that this person gave me through his lyrics and musicianship are priceless. I wish i could thank him. But if I can't then I'll try and live out the remainder of my life with those ideas that I was so fortunate to have been exposed to with Rush and Mr. Pearts influence. I'm so fucking grateful ❤

I had the honour of being part of the audience june 11 1976 at massy hall as all the worlds a stage was recorded!! I always believed Neil could have been a great canadian politician! But he has far surpassed that with what he has given and left the whole world !
I used to listen to Jim Ladd on KMET in LA when I lived in San Diego. Many a night fell asleep listening to his incredible show in the late 70's early 80's. The perfect man to interview the master.
2010 I took my Son to his first rock concert, from the beginning of Tom Sawyer to the end of the show, my Son was mesmerized, as he said, Dad they are really f.n. good " I just smiled and grooved along.
The music and the smell of the funky weed, made a great memory.
I have allot of peace in knowing this man lived every day like it was his last. That was a full life and I hope more people learn from him. Incredible interview and insightful reflections on what matters.

If anyone deserves a "pass"...it would be him. God should be very proud.
Neil didn't believe in God. Neil claimed to be an atheist, and that you take a dirt nap forever when you die. Why should he get a pass. Fortunately God can forgive egregious sins.
God doesn't grade on a curve. All are sinners that have freewill. God forgives everyone who believes Jesus is God. It is the only path that leads to freedom. All other paths lead to destruction and are built by liars.
You can choose a ready guide in some celestial voice, if you choose not to decide you still have made a choice, you can choose from phantom fears and kindness that can kill, I will choose a path that's clear, I will choose freewill.
Neil clearly chose a celestial voice to listen too. Clearly chose not to decide about God. Clearly chose freewill. If Neil has freewill he cannot bow to the power of God unless he believes in Jesus. Freewill means he thinks he is God, and God doesn't make the decisions about what happens in the universe, but Neil does.
This is the same stance Dio takes, claiming not to believe in a supreme being or Jesus, but yet calls himself God himself. Dio = God in Italian.
Sorry Neil, freewill is an illusion created by the Devil. If you want to live forever, you have to do what is right and obey the 10 commandments, and love your neighbor as yourself, and God above all. Since we all fail at obeying the 10 commandments, we need redemption, and this is why we love God above all, because he gave us a role model of a perfect being in Jesus. If we do what he did we would be perfect, since we can't, we have to ask him for forgiveness to get into heaven. This is the truth, and just because Neil doesn't/didn't believe it, it doesn't save him from death.

He helped encourage me think critically about politics, the nature of reality, and colored the way I life.

He was an inspirational an exceptional human being. I have listened to so many hours of Rush music in my life it will always be forever entwined in me. As a drummer I have great admiration for the man they call Pratt... his lyrics have shaped my life compelled me to be a free thinker it helped me always deviate from the norm and be a free thinker. I followed my own path cuz we all choose a free will. And Neil and Rush's music help me understand that and believe in myself..... and be the best human being possible. Its hard to believe that the greatest drummer ever is gone but never forgotten how can you ever forget your hero... I miss you Neil!!!! cheers to the professor.

Neil Peart is a Canadian treasure. I have been a fan of his excellent drumming for 4 decades, and his lyrics for over 3 decades. But he was more than that. He is an international and Canadian Great. A truly wonderful and deep soul. He should be enschrined in our culture; in our tales we tell, and songs we sing.
This is, by far, the best interview I’ve ever heard with Neil. I can’t express how much his work has influenced and enriched my life. Hearing him express himself so openly is a very cool thing. If he were to read my comment, of course, it would cause him discomfort…yet it’s true, nonetheless. What a special person he was. I miss him.

Neil was an atheist... unless he had a change of heart toward the end, which none of us will ever know. It's interesting that intellectuals sometimes have the hardest time believing in God, needing some kind of empirical scientific proof of something that cannot be touched or measured.

Wow, it's painful but at the same time heart warming listening to this interview. I remember interviews from back in the 80's and compared to today's, or this interview, he's come a long way and is much more relaxed and less cynical.

What a beautiful , great , awesome story. Rush was one of the bands I used to play air drums, because they put out so many different changes and different kinds of music..So I bought a new 5 piece Tama drum kit and started playing which was back in the 70s 2112 was the song that inspired me to start playing drums and of course YYZ came on and said wait a minute that's an awesome song.. I'm 57 now and still Love Rush.. of course so sad about the passing away of Neil Peart he for sure will be missed such an awesome drummer..he went through so much in his life.. Rock on Rush..
They didn't know what was coming out of the mold when they made this guy.... his literary skills and the twisted way his songs find the right nerve that people who would have nothing in common can find meaning in his words.. despite having totally different opinions of what the song means .. its given them a common bond to respect each other and puts them in the same place emotionally and rationally.. then you remember that he was a true master percussionist.. you'll live forever through your music.. rip Neal

I can tell you another fantastic drummer who does not do that, Carl Palmer of Emerson, Lake and Palmer, saw them several times, could not take my eyes off him, i'm a drummer playing in that vein. And there are so many other drummers that are that great.

The Analog Kid was the first song I went to when I heard he passed. Losing It was next, such a beautiful song
Scott Jennings, those tunes are priceless masterpieces. My vintage Power Windows album is in a frame, hanging on my wall. The cover shows many scars from thirty-plus years of existence. I played that album over and over for a year. I also think of Countdown, Middletown Dreams, The Manhattan Project. Big Money really floored me. His drums sounded incredible, and different. I think he played Ludwig for that album. His acoustic sound was enormous, but his electronic voice was just awesome. Mystic Rhythms was played as close to eleven as I could manage.
I saw them play Losing It at their last show at the Forum. Little did we know how relevant that song would be only a few years later.
94.7 KMET Jim Ladd dropped the needle on the first track off of Moving Pictures. That was in 1981. Just a note from a life you left your mark upon. RIP Neil Peart.
Probably that was the same way I was introduced to them :). I was 18 in 81, and became a fan.
KMET loved Rush so much, I was so impressed how much they played them when I visited for LA for the first time in the summer of '83.

It will when it earns it again. There are some great bands that do. But rock got extravagant and empty like most hip hop is now. It'll be back when it finishes learning from its mistakes.

Aside from noting there obvious brilliance in everything they have given us Rush Fans throughout the years, These three guys are some of most down to earth and intelligent artists around, I have recently watched Geddy Lees interview on Speak Easy on PBS and not only was an insightful informative and even candid interview, Geddy had even had included his questions on the interviewers music. Totally showed me that they arent the typical egotistic Rockers. Neil is the focal inspiration for me when i had my own personal situations which i was at the end of my rope. And i feel the exact same way about The Lonesome Cowboy himself!
As much as he shunned praise, wherever he is now Pratt surely has been squirming mightily

This was on the cusp of Neil getting the diagnosis. What a beautiful soul. As a fellow drummer who copied every note and flam stroke, my heart is just broken. This one really hurts. BAD
I feel the same. As a lifelong amateur drummer, enjoying all of those hours as a kid trying to figure out his drum parts. It was like communicating on a different level with someone you admired. Still hard to believe Neil is not here anymore.

I've been to many concerts over the years (I've seen them 10 times) and I can tell you that Neil Pearts' is the only drum solo that has never caused anybody to head for the johns or to go get a beer.

I was so moved by Neil's story about the little old lady in her Buick that he met at a gas station, who called out to Neil and his travelling companion, "I'll pay for your gas if you'll pay for mine!".....
He was so delighted by that interaction.
Sadly, there is a large portion of the population who might laugh about the lady's comment, but then behind her back, they would say, "What a weirdo!" or something negative about her.
Thank goodness there are still some, like Neil, who see the beauty in the courage of being open and willing to reach out to strangers with love and humor!
Exchanging pleasantries can make a big difference in someone's like. Even a simple "have a nice day" can really make people happy. Plus, it's good for Neil, because he appreciated being seen as just "a guy" and not "Neil Peart, famous drummer from Rush".
I am delighted when the ladies comment on my choice of shirt.
I get the impression that it was these encounters with folk in everyday situations that Neil really enjoyed.

I just want to say thank you to the creators of sirius radio ( I hope you make zillions) and especially the DJ's on "deep tracks" who are music lovers to the core. this is my "go to" station 95% of the time and I cannot tell you how many times I've pulled over between meetings to listen to some insane track by little feat or some new band who really has the talent to go places.

Simply put: Jim Ladd is unequivocally the GREATEST radio personality of all time. I'd moved from a small Midwest town (Libertyville, IL) in 1975 to Westlake, Village Ca. I had always spent all my free time listening to and analyzing music and music personalities. No other Radio "DJ " EVER stuck me more as a charismatic perfectionist through the airwaves as Jim. I was so blessed to be able to tune him in each evening on the local LA radio station KMET.
Now, to be able to hear him again on these You Tube vids as well a XM, he's truly an anomaly in "free-form" dj's and his station management knew this and simply always left him the f##% alone!

Neil talked my ear off just like he drummed my heart out for forty plus years. What a human, he was something special.
Neil has such a beautiful way of saying things. I also like his deep voice and also his prononciation. As a French speaker first language, I don’t always understand super well when someone doesn’t articulate and speak too fast. He speaks calmly, have a nice deep voice. This is strength. He’s an oak, a big tall oak. It still makes me cry when I watch or listen to an interview… or listen to The Garden.
