This guy is much cooler than the current "plastic face" Burger King version. I'll bet some executive eventually decided that it's better to have a plastic face Burger king so anybody can play him and they're not dependent on a certain actor.
I say a 3D animated one would’ve been better, given the technology we have. The Robe is fine if it’s aimed towards adults, but I feel the use of the head based on their BK helium tank masks really doesn’t help.
The official Burger King came to Huntsville, Alabama when I was a kid in the late 70's (maybe 1980?). My aunt came to my school and checked me out and along with my cousins, we drove to the Burger King where they had set up a stage in the parking lot. We waited in line to see him for what must've been at least an hour or two (but who knows 'cause I was just a kid) and I remember finally making it to the steps that led up to the stage where Burger King sat on his throne. And while I was standing on or at least had my foot on what was most likely the bottom step, they ended the show and said Burger King had to go so the show was over! I was devastated and angry! True story, I'm not making this up. My cousins and I never got to meet Burger King after waiting all that time in line and making it that close. I've held a grudge against the less than marvelous Burger King ever since!

I can't believe after 42 years I still sing this frickin song!
I still sing it too, after 47 years! I love the commercial.
I had completely forgotten that John Mulaney got his big break here before working at Saturday Night Live.

I like both
True
Absolutely 💯
Agreed, plastic face Burger King gives me the creeps. My at the time boyfriend used to wear a plastic face mask while terrorizing me.
I remember the Burger King would make appearances at various Burger King's and put on magic shows for kids.
Now they fire assistant managers, and don’t give a fuck about their customers and are RUDE to their customers!!!

Well, at least you're not the only one who loves such stuff.
I really & truly love that TV commercial!!!
So do I!!! I loved it when it first came on TV ( it was in 1977, as I remember), and I still love it now!!!!!
@@stevencroson4666 my sentiments exactly!
The Marvelous Magical Burger King was much better as an actor (Tom Barton) than some guy as a walking mask.
Its Fred Barton...not Tom
They could give KFC a run for their money and have multiple actors playing the King.
good point
I have been trying to get the name of the actor for some time. Wikipedia says Dick Gjonola.

Ronald Mcdonald

The Coolest Burger King Ever! Portrayed by the late Dick Gjonola (1939-2009)

It's Tootie from the Facts of :Life!!
Is she at 0:42 and 0:52?
I was one year old when this commercial aired. I wonder why they never continued this guy?
Because they were competing against McDonald and their mascot doesn’t have the same impact like Ronald McDonald did
Wholly cow I remember that.I was 11 when this first aired
Burger King used to be a great place to go in the late 70s in the 80s. Fun and good food. Now the food is crappy and the staff are rude.
........he can do most anything!
God Meyer the cost-effectiveness of the Burger Kingdom

well i mean it has to do with the evolution of audio recording
And then he traded in his personality for face starch.
