Burt was probably one of the best TV father ever

not probably, he was the best father,, When Kurt's bully, Karofsky came out to his parents his mum said he had a disease and his parents and friends practically abandoned him,, Kurt and the others forgave Karofsky for the shit that went down and were there for him to be who he was / wanted to be.

Yeah... I felt so bad for Dave (Karofsky) and Santana. Sure they were bullies but it didn't mean they deserved to be disowned by these they cared the most about. At least Dave's dad was accepting (and probably Santana's parents).

No doubt in my mind he was the best. He was funny and open and stood by his son and others with pride. He was an Everyman, simple and quiet and hardworking. He was a mans man who fully accepted who his son was and stood up for him.
While he did admit to using the same words that people used on Kurt when he was younger, he grew to learn just how much those word choices can hurt someone and being the father of a glee member, fully opened himself up to all diversity with open arms.

And perfect; obviously an older school dad like Burt isn’t going to have an ideal reaction to his kid coming out, but through his own biases and upbringing, he’s able to do one key thing all parents should do: just love your child. That’s all they want.

I love Burt so much. Even though he admits he's not totally happy about Kurt being gay, he isn't afraid to accept his son for who he is and shows again and again throughout the series that he has his back no matter what. This is, I think, the very definition of great parenting. A great mother or father doesn't have to be person or always say exactly the right thing. But a great parent will always support their child and be there to help guide them no matter what. Burt is just a great dad.

    • @deliciousness74
      @deliciousness74 7 ปีที่แล้ว +91

OkamsRazer when he said he wasn't totally happy with it I thought it was because he wouldn't be able to share the same love of women and do things fathers and sons do cause Kurt was more feminine. But I loved their relationship.

    • @DinoGlasses

Yes. I love this whole scene, Burt is an awesome parent for many reasons, I love his acceptance of Kurt and the way he says he wishes Kurt's mom could have been at the football game but then clarifies that he meant alive, meaning that he believes she was there in spirit and that he wants Kurt to know that and believe it too.

My favourite moment when Burt defends Kurt is actually in front of Finn. When they are having difficulty dealing with the brother dynamic and they have a fight that Finn regrets what he says in the heat of the moment.

im glad Kurt felt comfortable coming out to his dad, most kids live in silence and suffer internally which can lead to depression, anger issues or even suicide. If ever parents reacted like Bert we would all be better people.

You can love someone and not love how they choose to live there lives( yes some people deny this part of themselves and go on to be in a happy and loving heterosexual relationship)
Amd I don’t mean love like some people who are awkward and distant I mean you can truly love someone and care for them the way Burt does Kurt and still not be happy about it. But they are family and you love them and always will. I often wonder how o would react if someone I knew came out. I hope I could truly love them and be kind, but still be honest.

I actually love that at first he didn’t want Kurt to be gay and kind of was in denial all those years but he really worked on his mindset for his son. That’s love. He didn’t with it agree at first, but he worked hard and came around. He shows that just because you don’t understand it doesn’t mean you can’t love your child enough to at least try.

My mom's still in denial and my dad would kick me out if he knew. But Kurt always really inspired me growing up, and I get a lot of strength from all these gay Glee characters that went through so many different results. Kurt will always have a special place in my heart for getting me to hope for the future, and Santana helps me to remember that despite life's rockiness, I am able to rise above challenges and stay true to myself by using my wit. I don't know where I'm going with this but I just feel really grateful for the representation I got relatively easily compared to previous generations. I can't imagine what that would've been like, and it means a lot that we now have their efforts softening the blow.

He pushes away his own discomfort because he loves Kurt and knows that this is what he needs. And with time he fully comes around, because he wants to be the person his son can depend on. The scene makes me laugh & teary at the same time, lol. When my daughter came out to me she was 14 and I knew since she was 6 when in girl scouts she had a friend they were always hugging and kissing (innocently) on each other, you knew it was a first crush. When she told me I was thinking, "no kidding," lol. I think a lot of parents know (whether they wanna admit it to themselves or not).

I like how everything is different here comparing it to when Santana comes out and not only the situation, the whole place, when Santana comes out her abuela's house has warm colors, here is gray and white, they are in opposite directions (santana is on the right while her abuela is on the left, here Kurt is on the left and Burt on the right) when they scene ends Santana's abuela goes to the left and Burt goes to the right. Here Kurt and Burt are standing and Santana was sitted with her abuela.
    This was very well done

these two work well together as father and son because they don't want to lose each other no matter what. considering that Kurt's mother apparently played a big part in both of their lives before she died, it's understandable that they would have this kind of relationship; somewhat estranged, but willing to pull together to make it work. the father especially might see his son's coming out as a sign of bravery, coupled with his football participation, indicating that they're going down a good path together. while this is an ideal representation of what coming out to parents might be, not every case is going to be the same. the parents will either accept or shun you (as in the case of Santana and her grandmother); but it's all about perspective, gaining an objective informed view of the situation before making a total snap judgment, which, as far as I know, is a big part of the family dynamic when dealing with these scenarios.

We have 3 different types of family coming out reactions in Glee. Acceptance, Illness, and Religious. Burt full on accepted Kurt and has no problems with Kurt being who he is. Santana's mom also is that way. Yet Santana's grandmother isn't okay with the idea because it is a sin for man to be in bed with man same for women. (;-;) Then we have Dave.. Dave gets kicked out of the closest and his mom treats it like an illness.. Saying stuff like "it's treatable" and stuff. Glee deals with so many issues and deals with most of the reactions. Homophobia, Racism, Bullying, Transgender people, Cheating, Divorce, Death, Fat shaming, School shooting, judging by looks, teen pregnancies and more.. Glee is great 👌

This was one of the best scenes in the whole series. 1:11 , 1:18 and 1:48 I love Kurt and Burt. They didn’t seem very close until right here, but from here on they have each other’s backs no matter what.
Burt is an amazing and loving father. He wasn’t so accepting in his youth, but his unconditional love for his son made him an even better man.
And as for Kurt, I love how confident and brave he is from here on. Chris basically came out at the same time as his character. I’m so proud of him. He deserves love and happiness more than many others.

This scene and Kurt's general representation was really important in my navigating of my sexuality, UGH, bless these characters

This reminds me of when I told my parents I’m bisexual... I waited till November of my freshman year of college (the 2018-2019 year) to tell them... I called both of them separately while I was at school and told them... I was crying into the phone because I didn’t know how they would react and they told me that they are okay with it and they love me just the same... my mom even said and have been saying this for years asking “are you a lesbian, it’s okay if you are you know your uncle my brother and two of your cousins are gay” in the nicest tone ever, and I kept denying that I was and I finally told her I’m bisexual... I told my friends when I was out to lunch with them I have yet to tell everyone else... only a select few know like I said my parents and my close friends but also my brother and nana they know... the aunt that I’m most close with doesn’t even know... I keep meaning to tell her but I never do... I was a little on edge about telling my almost 86 year old nana (who still lives with us) because she’s a traditional old Italian woman and would whoop your ass, chasing you around the house with the slipper, the wooden spoon, a frying pan or throw things, like a thin tin mixing bowl or the tv remote a dog bone, dog toy, whatever she could get her hands on at the time if you were being a little shit and being a smart ass... but she knows that two of my cousins and my uncle are gay so she has no problem with it... some of my friends are gay and bisexual as well as trans queer etc. and each and every one of them love me still...

I love this so much. As a parent I wouldn't be in love with it either, only bc I feel like as a parent you'd want your kid to have the safest, easiest life. I'd just be scared for my kid bc people can be cruel, being gay itself I wouldn't care. Only thing that would truly upset me would be if my kid felt scared to tell me or thought for a second that I wouldn't accept them. I hope to create an environment where they don't feel the need to come out, and just tells me "hey this is the person I'm seeing"
