It's so obvious how much they love each other. What sucks is that these two gentle, successful, talented men who speak so beautifully were targeted by bullies for that. Unbelievable. .

Was bullied from year 8, I was very shy, and overweight, hated school, did not do very well in my exams, just wanted to leave. Then went to work, and was bullied there. Good on Tom and Lance talking about their experiences, hope it helps kids today. There is no excuse for bullying.

Lance as I sat here watching this video, I can feel your emotions and it brought back my emotions to the point that I'm crying. I never had your or Tom's courage to "Come Out" and be true to myself. Not only was I bullied and belittled at school, but I went through a lot of abuse and trauma growing up at home. I followed the expectations that were placed upon me by my parents. At 58 I struggle with so much regret and sadness for being so afraid and scared to follow my true feelings. Now being married with a son that has a learning disability, and my responsibilities to the family it's too late. But I often wonder (Fantasize) what life might have been like.
Tom, like Lance it saddens me that you had to put up with bulling because you were an Athlete. So sad!
My advice to anyone reading this: Be true to yourself and follow your heart.

Scared I reached out grabbed his hand/arm suddenlyhe was thrown OVER the top of me. And landed on the ground! The kids around me said that I knew judo. I did not! Just scared to death! He never bothered me again! But there's always another waiting around the corner. :) PEACE!

There wasn't any type of physical bullying in my school, it was more verbal just kids making fun of each other and teasing each other and I know words can still hurt but compared to schools in countries like America I felt like I had it easier in a way. For me, I was made fun of because of weight. I was overweight almost all my life until a couple of years ago when I got sick for a while and I couldn't eat and I lost like 17 pounds (8 kg) in 10 days but seeing how my body was starting to finally look like something, I pushed myself to lose more and I did, but in return I got obsessed. I have body dysmorphia. I can starve myself for days, I never feel content with how I look and it's from the moment I wake up till I go back to sleep, I look in mirrors and instantly grab my thighs or stomach or arms and just start listing everything I'm unhappy with with my appearance and I "punish" myself throughout the day by not eating or walking till my legs can't hold me up anymore and still I don't think I look better or that this was enough.. and the thing is that I really don't think I would have been like this had people like friends, family, relatives had told me I looked fine the way I was or helped me lose weight without making fun of me or making me feel so uncomfortable in my own skin. I hope what you're doing works because a lot of people need this; be it sexuality or appearance, race, religion or background, bullying is something you take with you for the rest of your life. Thank you for this xx

I'm a 68 year old activist. Initially, although gay, argued with my gay friends that the issue was human civil rights not exclusively gay rights. Because we are not a united minority community, the human rights that some of us were fighting for before Stonewall and civil rights in general are bring pulled back. I really wish that there was a way to talk to both of you. I saw your presentations (3) at Oxford and know that you are might be some specific suggestions for an old and very tired and discouraged activist. I was outed in 1964 to give you an idea of how long my story is. I remember every detail but don't know how to put it all down. You are both amazing human beings. It's interesting that neither of us you out shadows the other. Two very healthy eggs I would have to guess.

To a bullied teen, gay or straight:
You will soon be establishing your adult life, earning your own money, creating your own circle of friends, building your own family if you want one. Your dreams will come true and the universe will give you gifts you could never have dreamed of. People will love you, respect you, trust you, look to you for leadership, and give you their thanks for being there for them.

I was bullied quite a bit in elementary school, but not quite as much in high school. I had my religion and faith to help keep my head up, but did end up with a pretty low self esteem, which didn't help much in college. I still struggle with it at times even though the bullying ended decades ago. It left a pretty serious mark on me.

In middle school, I learned that “gay” was shameful word that could be applied to me, but still didn’t fully make the connection to my developing sexuality. It was still mostly just a joke.
In high school is when it became serious. My homosexuality started to take full affect and I had to live in denial from my internalized homophobia and homophobia from my family, classmates, and teammates. I honestly believed that no one except hypothetical or rare exceptions to the rule that everyone was straight could possibly be gay and that no one liked or associated with those who were. That was especially hard for me with my social life already being vulnerable and threatened.
It wasn’t until recently that I realized, not only that other people were LGBTQ, but also that some of them secretly had a thing for me. If I had realized that back then and we all felt safe and free to be ourselves, we could’ve had relationships. Homophobia has robbed us of normal experiences of young love.
I would tell my younger self to go on TH-cam all the time to look up LGBTQ role models to prove that I’m not alone, that I’m normal and good, and that courageously showing my true self could ultimately lead to others doing the same and us all enjoying each other.

Oh yes it is, depending on which side of the pond you love on, we know it's different and soccer/British football is rapidly becoming one of the biggest sports at schools. I'm constantly amazed at the skill, but confused by the rules since I didn't grow up watching it. So, I watch, I Google. But, Saturday crisp fall days are made for football/American. And, yes they're wearing pads but most are well over 6ft tall & 300lbs, the pads brace you for impact. In my day, girls weren't allowed to play football of either kind. Except once a year a "powder puff" game, Sr. Girls v Jr. Girls. We had no pads and the Varsity teams coached us which meant we lined up against them and got hit full on body contact. Of course, most of us landed several feet back from where we started. But, being able to get back up and take it again was more fun than playing the girls.

In our school if you use homophobic language then you get an hours detention and there is a group of people trying to get pride celebrated in our town which I think is great

M Be what do you think bullying is? In my opinion that "average derogatory comment" is bullying
