I've been reading the comments and I might be young (14) but it's really hard to understand, to comprehend the amount of hurtful things that are unnecessarily spoken. It's hard to fathom the amount of people who can say these things, that can hurt someone else, (and deliberately so) and still be able to get up in the morning and not be disappointed and/or upset with themselves. I don't understand how people can be so horrible and I really wish they would just think about it, how it would feel and how it would hurt. You can call me naïve if you want, sadly there are so many people out there who disregard others and their feelings, yet I never fully comprehended that, I'm only starting to now. I'm trying to have hope for people but when I read so many comments like this it gets really hard. I know there are people out there who are kind, caring and understanding, not judgemental and sensitive to others feelings; but they're so limited, so few, that it's becoming hard to see through the fog. When I found this channel it really helped me with realising who I want to be and how I want to live my life. I suddenly found someone who can unknowingly change my life for the better, and it's amazing. You, Tom, are my role model. You're strong; mentally and emotionally (for more than I can say, and that is limited to what I know about you). You're kind and brave and work so hard to achieve what you want, what you wish. To achieve your dream, and that's more than I can say for most people (sadly). Your health and fitness videos make me feel like for once in my (so far, short) lifetime, that I can take care of myself and my wellbeing. Your vlogs with Lance make me aspire to be that happy, to find someone who you can not only be thrilled to spend your life with but who are thrilled to be apart of your life and more than content to spend their life with you. I love the banter between you like the married couple that you happily are. I love that you can do all this and have fun whilst doing it. Most of all I love that you've shared this with me, with all the viewers and anyone lucky enough to stumble upon this channel. And let's not forget Lance too, he's also my role model. I love that he fights for what he believes in and I admire how influential he is. How brave and strong he is too. He is now literally the most successful British Diver ever and probably one of the very few divers beaten Chinese divers in the world series within last decade and half as the Chinese dominate diving for such a long time. That is precision and dedication. Well done Tom. Keep it up!

I'm no diver, I actually barely go near water. I am not British, never visited actually. I've never been to a diving competition, one meter off the ground is scary to me. I don't work out... I don't do a lot of things that this channel has on it. I still watch every time you post because you are fun! I like seeing the place you go, the achievements you make, I like to see your husband and the happy relationship that proves that love always wins. I'm so happy you are back to a good place and I hope you never leave that happy place with or without diving.
I think a big theme in this video is the fact that this year, you didn't focus so completely and weren't so serious about diving as you were before. Not taking it as seriously probably means you put less pressure on yourself which in turn probably means you aren't as stressed about diving. You said that this year you just tried to do your best, enjoy yourself and have fun, so maybe that attitude has caused you to worry less and be less stressed, and therefore is what has caused you to be so successful this year. (obviously as well as all the hard work, determination, time, effort, energy and skill you put into diving!) Although when it comes to competitions like the olympics I imagine there's a lot of external pressure so perhaps others wouldn't like it if you went into those competitions with that attitude! 😂

Yeah, I think part of the problem is maybe because he (understandably) wants to succeed so much, especially in the olympics, that he just gets in his head a bit, if you know what I mean? And so he gets a bit worked up, puts extra pressure on himself, which increases his nerves. He has admitted to struggling with mental blocks in the past, e.g. after london 2012, and that does seem to be the only thing stopping him. But he has worked around mental blocks before so imo he definitely has the ability and the talent to achieve his dream!
So true! Just look at what was going on just before the Olympics. 1st it starts off with a lot of comments that he should focus more on his training instead of trying to be a media person. This would make everybody want to show the world they were wrong by winning that competition. 2nd by the time he gets to Rio everybody was expecting him to bring home the Gold. This is a big responsibility and Tom tried to live up to that. 3rd The Olympics. It starts with a Bronze medal with Dan Goodfellow which was unexpected but well deserved! The media now is going crazy! CAN TOM DO IT? To them, the Gold is already in his pocket! 4th The biggest pressure comes from where he least expected it. Chris & Jack win Gold so now for Tom Gold is the only medal to win! Every other color would be a failure! 5th He delivers by breaking the Olympic record in the pre-rounds so he knew he could do it. That he was capable of doing it! His self-confidence must have been extremely high but..... to much confidence isn't good. As an athlete you're only as good as your last result and going into the semi-finals he knew that he only needed to do some ok jumps. There was no need for him to win the semi-finals, Qualifying was enough. That's probably the main reason why he lost focus. I DON'T HAVE TO BE PERFECT to qualify! After two not so good jumps, he must have panicked knowing that his other jumps had to be great to make it to the final! This must have given him extra stress and no matter what your coach is saying at that moment... climbing the stairs to those ten meters is a long and lonely way up. I'm sure a lot did go through his mind. All things that took away his focus on the jump but all things logical since he's only human.
Increased cortisol and adrenaline due to stress over time has shown to have an array of negative effects. The release of that stress most likely helped you in ways you wouldn't have imagined it could. Although only somewhat applicable camille adams performance drastically improved after her coaches payed attention to her stress. Changing mindset does wonders.
This just shows how important it is to find somone who supports your sucess and would still love you even if you didnt. Someone who truely cherrishs your growth and pushes you to be your best. Lance is literally so so incredible to Tom and vise verser, honestly one of the most inspiring relationship ive seen.

I think we should stop thinkin about wether you are straight, homosexual, bi or what ever... this box-thinking leads to problems like harassment. Even children are affected by this way of thinking causing them to get opinions which are represented by their idols, leading to a divide in society.

So many times people get cocky or they think there isn't enough time, but as long as there are a few seconds, a few runners, divers, basketball or football players running and competing behind you, someone can always snatch that victory. Everyone has ups and downs. But it's how you refocus, reprioritize and come back from the lows is what matters. When Rio didn't turn out the way you wanted, you dove deep within and grew as a person. Today only I was devastated and heartbroken with how I was performing, My academic scores weren't great for some consecutive tests and today was the day, I felt like I was exhausted and seeing you go through so much and emerge as the champion you are is amazing. I think that everyone has their ups and downs and going from Rio to World Champion proves this. I would also like to say that you and Lance are the most amazing couple ever you can see how much you love each other. There was no doubt that you had to get married and I'm extremely happy for both of you. I will confess that before you two I had little interest in gay rights. I wasn't ever against the LGBTQ community but after watching some of Lance's speeches I became an active supporter.
So incredibly proud of you, Tom! To go through heartbreak in Rio and then come back and smash this season is amazing and just shows what a remarkable person and athlete you are! This is so funny. So the championship was in my country and I remember talking to my friend while this played in the background on the tv. And I wasn't even paying attention but right when Tom was about to dive, I looked over at the tv and watched his last jump and I was like "whoa that was amazing! Who is that?" and my dad told me who he was and I was like "Ok I want him to win so bad" and he did! I was so happy and I didn't even know him!
Life As Lucy we were competing once (I think it was 2013?) and he was training as we were warming up...safe to say our coaches lost our attention and lost all of us in the crowds for photos😅
Tom, I have been diving for almost eleven years now and I'll be honest it has been difficult. Diving in the winter and the summer has kept me busy among other sports and school work as well as my inability to dive competitively over the last few years has drawn a few setbacks but when I first started it was you that kept me going. I could not get he jump for the springboard correct & I passed out diving from the high boards & mycoach had to dive in & get me as I just sank so that gave me a fear of heights! I'm glad you share your story with us! If you see the competitions, you don't really get to see the person behind it and the hard work you put into it. And those ups and downs are a part of the way to success. People get so much inspiration from you cause you're not just the athlete "machine" which you see on TV in competitions. You show us the person behind all this and that success in sports is not a given standard once you've been successful. It's all hard work, physical work but also mental work. I was so happy for you watching you succeed in the world championship!

As an athlete you're only as good as your last result and going into the semi-finals he knew that he only needed to do some ok jumps. There was no need for him to win the semi-finals, Qualifying was enough. That's probably the main reason why he lost focus. I DON'T HAVE TO BE PERFECT to qualify! After two not so good jumps, he must have panicked knowing that his other jumps had to be great to make it to the final! This must have given him extra stress and no matter what your coach is saying at that moment... climbing the stairs to those ten meters is a long and lonely way up. I'm sure a lot did go through his mind. All things that took away his focus on the jump but all things logical since he's only human.

Increased cortisol and adrenaline due to stress over time has shown to have an array of negative effects. The release of that stress most likely helped you in ways you wouldn't have imagined it could. Although only somewhat applicable camille adams performance drastically improved after her coaches payed attention to her stress. Changing mindset does wonders.
This just shows how important it is to find somone who supports your sucess and would still love you even if you didnt. Someone who truely cherrishs your growth and pushes you to be your best. Lance is literally so so incredible to Tom and vise verser, honestly one of the most inspiring relationship ive seen.

I think that everyone has their ups and downs and going from Rio to World Champion proves this. I would also like to say that you and Lance are the most amazing couple ever you can see how much you love each other. There was no doubt that you had to get married and I'm extremely happy for both of you. I will confess that before you two I had little interest in gay rights. I wasn't ever against the LGBTQ community but after watching some of Lance's speeches I became an active supporter.

This is so funny. So the championship was in my country and I remember talking to my friend while this played in the background on the tv. And I wasn't even paying attention but right when Tom was about to dive, I looked over at the tv and watched his last jump and I was like "whoa that was amazing! Who is that?" and my dad told me who he was and I was like "Ok I want him to win so bad" and he did! I was so happy and I didn't even know him!

I could not get he jump for the springboard correct & I passed out diving from the high boards & mycoach had to dive in & get me as I just sank so that gave me a fear of heights! I'm glad you share your story with us! If you see the competitions, you don't really get to see the person behind it and the hard work you put into it. And those ups and downs are a part of the way to success.
People get so much inspiration from you cause you're not just the athlete "machine" which you see on TV in competitions. You show us the person behind all this and that success in sports is not a given standard once you've been successful. It's all hard work, physical work but also mental work.
