    I have the Robot tuners on all of my guitars. When you string it you pull the string tight, then you wrap it around once, then around once of the top, screw it in place. This should be tight enough to keep the stop bar in place. G,B,E side strings I wrap it around twice on bottom twice on top, hold the string and then put the nut on. Once all the strings are on, then I turn it on and tighten / tune the strings.

      I have a 2015 LP Classic with G force tuners. They work fine. If you change to a different gauge string you need to recalibrate it. I've been in IT for 10 years. If I've learned anything about end users, they rarely read manuals so this step probably gets overlooked causing tuning issues later. Just my .02 as a consistent user of said tuners going on 4 years now.

    I put these robots on my stratocaster and I am very satisfied.
    If you had looked at the assembly instructions you would not have any problems. For the three big strings, when you pass the string over the collar you have to wind it clockwise to avoid the string to relax when tightening the nut, as you can see on the video.
    After the first assembly and the adjustments, it is necessary to calibrate the device, which many do not do!
    There are two ways to tune, all six strings at the same time, or string by string, if you tune string by string when you have selected the tuning for all six, the robots will certainly go crazy!
    So it's no wonder that there are so many bad reviews for these robots if they are installed wrong!

    The best thing about the 2015 Les Paul NonTraditional is that they were hated so much by musicians right out of the gate. Even better, the brass nut that came with the guitar wore down pretty quickly causing the strings to twang with an annoying metallic sound, and binding the tronicle tuners. With the guitar not tuning properly now and looking at the ugliness of the Les Paul 100 emblem on their head stocks many went up for sale on eBay, so many they couldn’t get rid of them. Others had the electronic tuners removed for standard tuners and settled because they paid so much new. I got this exact cherry-burst Traditional on eBay for $1200 back then. The guitar is beautiful and just needed a checkup from the neck up. The first thing was to contact Gibson for the free titanium nut and replace it, a tiny dab of nut lube on the nut and bridge allows the tuners to work flawlessly as well as a fully charged battery. Changing strings is really easy, you can use the electrics to loosen but replace all strings together and manually snug each one. Then turn on the tuner and strum once to let them tune up. The beauty of the tuner is, is that you can switch to different tunings so quickly. This is a very heavy guitar with no weight relief but sounds beautiful. If this was a set up for a customer, a titanium nut should be installed if the brass one is wearing an lube the contact points. Within a year of purchasing the guitar, I obtained 3 complete tuner sets removed from these guitars with battery’s and chargers to keep as a parts bin on eBay very cheap.

    This guitar has all the stuff most of us hated. The changed Les Paul logo on the headstock which looked horrible to myself and many others, the robo tuners which were much hated by many and at first was planned to go on all future Gibson's. I myself could never get them to tune accurately and replaced them with with Grovers. This also has the zero fret on which I have no opinion due to never having played a guitar which had one but I do know that for some reason the change made the neck wider at the nut which was also not popular with many people. If all this appeals to you then its a great guitar I guess.

    I was like a lot of people and thought it was another bad Gibson idea but I have changed my mind. I bought one the Les Paul Less 2015 guitars last year. The seller I bought it from had removed the G Force tuner and replaced it with a set of Gibson Deluxe tuners. The G Force was included in the case when I bought it so about two months ago I decided to put the G Force back on to see how it works. It goes on very easily. I found it works well. Yes, it's best to replace strings one at a time, but outside of that I don't find any issues. The tuner does a good job of tuning quickly and accurately. What was a bad idea, was Gibson putting them on Les Paul modals in 2015 as a standard, not an option. It's very nice on stage to just be able to tune your guitar or change the guitars tuning to something like a drop D or and open tuning in just a few seconds by pushing a few button. It will also remember your own custom tunings (if you have any). I really like the adjustable nut and would love to have that on a few my other Les Paul guitars. Like anything new, you have to use it a few times to understand how to change the strings and how to use the G Force, then it's just another way of doing things. I have locking Grover tuners on my Epiphone Les Paul Tributes that took a few times to understand but now it's not an issue.

  • @gurleyz
    @gurleyz 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    If they functioned just like regular tuners manually at any time as well with an easy kill switch for the automated part, they would be amazing because of the range of different tunings you can customize. For a beginner/intermediate player learning more about different tunings/keys its not a horrible system to play with.

It's really fast to change strings once you memorize the buttons and understand what inputs the guitar wants. Also, kinda handy to have different tunings ready to go. I guess not everyone has the patience to learn new things.

    • @brianmorton4127

    • @leroyjenkins4811
      @leroyjenkins4811 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I wish Gibson would do two things. You’re right about the headstock joint. A scarf joint with a volute and a less steep headstock angle would solve the problems. A wood joint with glue in it is always stronger than the weak thickness of original wood. Break the necks from the factory and make it look nice! Lol. The other thing I’d wish Gibson would offer is a wider variety of solid body paint colors. Gibson’s look like furniture to me with all the wood showing. A mahogany back, plain maple top guitar (for sonic properties) in solid colors would be excellent. I also wish they would use something other than nitrocellulose lacquer. The finishes are too thick and just about every Gibson I’ve seen with that finish has bubbles in it. Gibson isn’t a premium brand, but they sure do charge premium prices! Their quality control sucks.

    Those Gibson Les Paul guitars from that time period, likely had some of the sweetest sounding pickups ever made.. The serial number pattern reveals a 2015, which had the '59 Classic pick ups. If constructed and QC'ed correctly were fantastic. I had a 2015, but the damn tuners put so much pressure on the headstock it broke the headstock. Real sad shit folks. But, the pickups and beauty of that guitar is a keeps, even if the tuners are removed and replaced.

  • @peterbutlien1335
    @peterbutlien1335 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    In my opinion, the robo tuner is actually a good idea. They are especially helpful to a new player, to get and keep a guitar in tune. A new player won't need to do string changes or change tunings very often.
    The problem is they marketed them wrong. They were made available on expensive Gibsons, not a beginners guitar. Beginners who may need help tuning a guitar dont generally buy a $1500+ Gibson. For an experienced player, they don't do any favors. The experienced player can tune, switch tunings, and change strings faster and easier with traditional tuners.
    If robo tuners were installed on Squires, they would have been a huge hit. They would have eliminated a huge source of frustration for new players, who have not developed the ear to easily get in tune. Just could not happen because of the cost added to the price of a guitar.

    • @lukex1337
      @lukex1337 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree it would be better for beginner guitars..but also would make them more expensive which would probably turn newcomers off. Also, I think starting with these would be detrimental to your ear training as learning what’s in tune or not is part of the journey.

    Hey Dave, I like and subscribe to your channel. This video is really useful. But I have a suggestion;
    When you are tuning a string and the tuner jumps to tuning the next string, press the right arrow button and the tuner goes back to the string you're replacing.
    In the manual that Gibson provided they tell you to replace the strings one at a time(!) in order to maintain constant string tension (So.... don't ever clean the fingerboard? Gimme a break!)
    But.. they tell you to recalibrate the tuner everytime you change strings or intonation. Maybe the owner intonated it before you. Also, I think there are supposed to be two screws holding the nut in place, there are on mine. This would suggest that someone else got to the guitar before you did and made some extra work for you, just my thought.
    Despite all the flaws I find this really useful for switching back and forth between open tunings and standard without sucking a lot of time between songs. You're right though, it's always the G string, but at least with the robo-tune that's fixed quickly. I dated a girl in the early 80's and when her G-string slipped, it stopped the whole show....
