    I don't understand why people flip out over those tuners. Spend $40 and replace em. BFD. It's a hell of a lot better than crying about them every time somebody brings up Gibson Auto Tuners
    As a gigging musician, I don't understand how anyone would be ignorant enough to keep them on if they didn't know how to operate them. And I'm betting 95% of people that don't like them don't know how.
    Why, would you ever keep them on there if you had that many issues with them? It makes zero logical sense.
    Well, unless you're a guitar collector before you're a player. Then you're gonna worry about losing $50 over screw holes 🤣

    • @TheNeuroticGuitarist
      @TheNeuroticGuitarist  ปีที่แล้ว

      As I said in the video, I didn't have any issues for 80 gigs...until I did. Gibson couldn't get anyone to endorse them because of their reliability, but as you can see, when it works its pretty sick. And useful.
      I wanted to rip out all of the electronics but I was told this would make a better video. You can fix them, but it's not cheap at all. I'm gonna fix mine as long as I can since I am a collector and am not using it to gig at this point, but the sad fact is that it's only a matter of time before it just stops working and there won't be anything u can do about it

I heard you mention thr 57's and I think I've heard you say, in an older video, that the 490R & T were like your favorite stock Gibson pickups (I could be wrong). Anyway, you being a Gibson aficionado, what set of pickups would you suggest to put in this puppy? I wanna keep it in PAF territory. I got plenty of other guitars with hot as hell pickups in them. I just need a good set of PAF humbuckers, with the nickel covers. Hit me. Thanks in advance! Cheer. 🍻

      @TheNeuroticGuitarist so you're not talking about the 57 "classics" set? You mentioned the 57+, which is a supped up bridge pickup, if I'm not mistaken. For thr 57's what exactly are you saying should go in the neck and bridge? And for the 490 & 498, which goes in the bridge and which in the neck because you're not talking a straight pair of 490's, right? And you're not talking the straight 57 "classic" set? Sorry to be so specific. I'm a Boston guy, though. Do me a solid, buddy. Plz. Thx.🤘👍✌️

    • @TheNeuroticGuitarist
      @TheNeuroticGuitarist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Boston Whofan the straight 57s set is great, the only difference with the 57+ is that it's slightly hotter which I dig, more like a slightly hotter paf. The 490 goes in the neck and the 498 goes in the bridge. But I'm sure it'd be interesting to hear those reversed

    • @BostonWhoFan515
      @BostonWhoFan515 ปีที่แล้ว

      @TheNeuroticGuitarist ok for 70s classic arena rock (Aerosmith, ACDC, Zep, The Who, Queen, Skynyrd, Joe Walsh, etc) would you go w the straight set of 57 classics? Or still add the 57+ in the bridge?
      (Side note: what about the Seymour duncan antiquity set for that 70s rock sound?)
      I still eventually wanna grab the 490/498 set, but I think I got enough sick guitars (nothing like you got) loaded with pups to cover that "slightly hotter" PAF sound. I got something for everything. Seymour D's of many forms, P-90s, oldschool Schecter SuperRock's, new hot a fuck MojoTones, EMGs, classic Fender chimey SRV-Jimi-esq single coils. I just wanna make this LP a 70s classic arena rock machine.

    Best wishes, Mr. Neurotic. I watched it. And still wonder how a person could use a pricey guitar like that and still make enough money at the gig after expenses to eat.
    I won't bug you anymore. I just feel like the guitar selling world does a disservice to folks by not also reminding folks that they could play a 150$ axe at a gig and actually make enough money gigging that they wouldn't have to have multiple side jobs to pay the rent.
    Plus there is a fantastic feeling one gets when the audience sees that the guitarist is playing an affordable guitar and it is doing the job.
    I won't post any more comments. I seem to upset you. But playing a 3000$ guitar at a gig that pays 150$ per man just seems like it forces a guy to have some type of day job.

      I appreciate you taking the time rusty. My channel is never about the price of a guitar specifically other than comparison or explaining value. First and foremost, where 150 may have got you a playable guitar a decade ago, you can't even find instruments that are trustworthy for that pricepoint anymore. Maybe 300-400, maybe. I just explain guitars, tone, science, it's not about can I find the best value to get something done. It's about sharing about a specific instrument whether it's 10k or 1k or 500. You're not bugging me, I appreciate your perspective. I also appreciate that you took the time after a disagreement to educate yourself and even if we still have a differing opinion you now know where I'm coming from. BTW, the dark fire stopped working again so I'm gonna take those tuners off. The irony.

      I try to encourage young players to learn skills that will allow them to be able to play full time rather than having to resort to a day job or sideline income because those things can kill their ability to tour which is essential to networking and getting more touring/session gigs.

    Is it possible that the electronics are acting fucky due to the milliamps being not exactly matched from the original battery to the replacement?
    That'd be my guess because that would absolutely cause problems, little fuckyness but not necessarily outright catastrophic failure..
    It's worth considering at least.
    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

    • @TheNeuroticGuitarist
      @TheNeuroticGuitarist  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The impedence has been matched closely and has no effect on the electronics and every effect on how efficiently and quickly it maintains a charge. I have now changed the battery twice and created a new connection to the PC board. Not to pat myself on the back, but tronical, the company that still manufactures this stuff only offers a completely different battery that requires you messing w the control cavity and charging the battery outside of the guitar.

      @@TheNeuroticGuitarist Ok well I'm inclined to defer to your knowledge on this one since you're working with empirical evidence.. Or hopefully.

    • @TheNeuroticGuitarist
      @TheNeuroticGuitarist  ปีที่แล้ว

      @88_TROUBLE_88 for sure. It's been trial and error. The first battery charged once and then I must have run it down too low and it wasn't able to charge back up, I think partly because of how small the connection is to the pc board but I'm no expert. I essentially made that connection and jumped it to a female head that fits most drone or rc car batteries. Now if it decides not to charge back up through the jack I can just order something of Amazon. I'm gonna be making a follow up video to this soon.

    Gibson in the last 20 years seems to have made poorer decisions than ever before, had more QC issues then ever before, and made the silliest guitars they've ever made. That said, I probably wouldn't purchase a Gibson product under 20 years old, and wouldn't trust them to fix ANY product given the fact that they would be so bold as to refuse fixing their fuck ups. Granted maybe it was a simple issue with the one tuner going buckwild and only tuning down, but being the company who designed (or outsourced) these parts, they should step up to the plate.
    I've played plenty of their guitars in local stores, but Gibson will NEVER be seeing any of my money

      I disagree! I absolutely love how it sounds. There's also nothing cheap about this guitar. Whether you love or hate the robot element, it's essentially a very high end standard with an ebony fretboard and f5 headstock inlay. It has a hand wound burstbucker 3 and a p90 in it. That's about as les paul as you get!
