    As I would LOVE to sit here and tell you why I deserve one of those fabulous skate boards because I spent 20+ years serving my community as a Paramedic, Flight Paramedic, and saved countless lives… blah, blah blah, the truth is I don’t deserve it more than anyone else. Expect for my son. Now the reason I would really like to have one is for my son Ryan who suffers from Cerebral Palsy and is absolutely one of the coolest kids you will ever know. Although he can’t ride it, he LOVEs anything skateboard related. So IF I were lucky enough to get one, it would not be for me, it would be for him, to make a shelf out of to hang on the wall and to place to all his treasures, memorabilia, and items that he admires.

    Skateboarding has been my life since I was 6 years old, after 9/11 I joined the U.S. Army with an option 40 68W contract and I was that guy that was skating on Fort Benning…(on off hours of course).
    I was paralyzed in 2011 and haven’t been able to since. It was always my go to rather than the bar or something similar. I think it’s an amazing cause. I would love to buy one and support even if I do win.
    Great work and thank you, Jeff and Raid SB. 🤙🍻🦅🇺🇸

    My boss bought the ATS Aegis back in 2017 and he really liked it. We were at Campbell (Not SF or even close to SF) so you could go into their store and walk through their petting zoo. I bought my personal gear a few years later and wondered why I waited. They really fit well, are comfortable to wear all day, and they have great solutions to configure your plate carrier to how you like it. At least you could wear a lot nicer equipment than we could. I started with the old flak jacket back in 2003, then progressed to the Interceptor around 2005, then ACU IOTV in 2010, and OCP IOTV similar but the emergency release is different if I remember right). It's easy to take for granted the learning and progression we went through to get to the systems. It feels like we have always had plate carriers, but it was only in the mid 2000's that they became widespread throughout the force.

    I started out in the conventional army so the MBAV was a blessing to me. I wasn’t crazy about the AVS, it was ok without the “suspension system”, my plates wouldn’t properly fit me with it on any ways. I preferred the JPC but I will say it could get a little wonky when you loaded it down with mission essential equipment.

    When I was young all I ever wanted was a skateboard, it's all I talked about. Well one Christmas morning I woke up and there it was, $35.95 from dollar general, cheap. However I loved it and used it every day. Until one day I got the worst tampon this side the Mississippi.Turned my Crack into a canyon, my craps are more like crepes these days. Now here I sit, prolapsed asshole just trying to overcome my fears and get back on the board. Please Mr. Gurwitch make my dream come true, end my hemroid filled nightmares.

    Great video. I never wore anything but the IBA in combat. My civilian purchases, however, were the LBT 6094 and a DCS covert (a british slick PC). The 6094 was good as a more raid style of pc ie everything tight and mounted to the carrier. The DCS is a better patrol PC in my opinion. It's a slick carrier with the ferro style cummerbund. This allows you to carry a couple of mags and meds on the PC, while still being able to dawn and doff my h harness. I use the SFLCS H harness for overtop of my PC. I carried the Blackhawk non molle version in Iraq. It's dated tech, but sustainment wise, not much is gonna beat it. My area needs sustainment.
    On the khaki note, I actually prefer lighter equipment. It allows for a light base to be able to darken if I need to camo my equipment.
    Don't need a skateboard just spreading info and helping the algorithm.

    Like yourself, I’m not a skaterboy (sorry Avril). However I can absolutely get behind the idea. One of my Ranger buddies is struggling post service and needs a hobby that doesn’t involve drinking. I keep trying to get him to come to a match with me, among other healthier therapeutic activities, and unfortunately we aren’t getting anywhere. I know he used to be into skating, maybe this would be good for him.

    Great Video and History / Information as always Jeff. I'm just getting back into skateboarding after a long (too long - 35 years) hiatus. It was a big part of growing up in South Florida along with live music. I continued with the Music but lost track of my skate deck after joining the Army. So a few months ago I said, if not now...then when? A new deck would be rad, would help me get around the embassy over here....LOL...anything is better than walking, and why not get back into something you thoroughly enjoyed as a youngster....its all about perspective..not age.

    I wouldn’t say deserved but… I first had 3 chest surgeries to fix my “sunken chest” aka backwards sternum. Then out of high school was not going to be able to join the service as a result of needing my shoulder fixed also. After that I eventually became a sheriffs deputy which was then cut short by a doctor telling me the same shoulder surgery issue is now most likely a problem in my neck/spine and could no longer be in law enforcement. Since then I do security but have decided to take a leap and go back to school to work in healthcare doing radiation for cancer patients & skating has now become a huge outlet for my depression or dark times. Life doesn’t work out how you plan it but now just go with the flow and make it work. Also huge fan of raid and can say their products are fantastic.

Very community driven and you’ve gotta take some scrapes and bruises to be able to really grow in that hobby. The joke is the Eagle MBAV was in the Soldier Plate Carrier System testing, the Joe's preferred it over the KDH POS so Natick picked the KDH POS because of the additional square inches of 3A sift armor coverage, never mind the piss poor sideplates floating around on 1 in webbing and buckles loosening during use. Joe's liked the MBAV better and it and it's 3A soft armor inserts were already NSN in the system.

    I think the AVS shines in its ability to carry a ton of stuff, which fits the regiment mission nicely. it distributes weight really well and can be scaled to any mission set. the buckle thing is a non issue, you can simply swap that to the other side, or remove it entirely. You can fix the harness in place on one side and it allows you to slide into the carrier from the other side and buckle it up nice and fast.

    Interesting to see your take on armor. My first carrier was a JPC and it caused me severe pain just wearing it for a few minutes with nothing but plates. I have an ATS Aegis, bought long before I discovered you. I love the plate pocket padding and no nonsense features, but I really wish the shoulder straps were sewn at an outward angle. No matter what pads I try they really fatigue my traps after about an hour of wear. Maybe I just have wide shoulders.
    On the other hand, the AVS in the harness configuration is the ultimate in comfort and wearability for me. If I had the money that would be my go to.

      Yes plate carriers are like shoes I think for some it's super hard to find the perfect fit. it's deceiving trying one on with no weight and then full combat weight

  • @dickmajor4848
    @dickmajor4848 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    As somebody who owns an AVS and a JPC, I think it's a little unfair to do such a hit piece on the AVS 🤣
    The AVS in a plate carrier configuration uses the same method of securing the cummerbund as the JPC, and the plastic buckle can be switched to a preferred shoulder, omitted altogether, or replaced with a better buckle.
    The rest of the video was very interesting!

    • @ModernTacticalShooting
      @ModernTacticalShooting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not hit piece it's just my opinion. Plus, if it was super great, SF guys would not still be going out and purchasing JPCs..but they are.

    You mentioned that you all wanted the JPC essentially but instead got the AVS, what are your thoughts on the Airlite SPC meanwhile then if you have any experience with those? It seems like an even more minimalist, lighter weight version of the JPC which seems like it'd be up folks' alleys from what you said.

    • @ModernTacticalShooting
      @ModernTacticalShooting  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had to look up Airlite SPC, Ive seen some SF with it, but the JPC is by far way more prevalent.

      SPC is has a rigid tegris cummerbund, so it's actually better suited for load carrying than the JPC.

    You know I want the deck because I’m here posting a comment about it. As a southpaw that has already been dealt a “bad” hand in life, winning that raid Skateboards deck would help sweeten all of those moments I’ve been gassed out so badly from my rifle… it could help soften the pain of shooting all the gens of glocks without having a slide release until gen5…. It would make those milspec charging handles just a bit less right handed.
    So. I hope I win it!

    I personally would love a Mk18 skateboard because according to the Marine Urban Warrior program in the 90s, they issued skateboards to "check for tripwires" in urban environments, but it just wound up beinf some extremely rad xtreme 90s moment to see dudes in T block camo with skateboards. I'd love to be able to give some bullshit excuse like that for why I have a hot pink skateboard with a rifle on it.

    You should look into the upcoming Crye JPC-R Series. It's as minimalist as the JPC but has the structural load bearing capability of the Airlite SPC and can use AVS skeletal cummerbunds. It's incredibly modular and can be configured into several different iterations for every mission

    • @totenfurwotan4478

      Why not just use the SPC then?

    • @DJ-fd4qk
      @DJ-fd4qk 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@totenfurwotan4478 because the SPC is super minimalist, more so than the JPC, and only has a structural cummerbund. The whole carrier is skeletonized and the plates are suceptible to the elements. The JPC-R Series has more material and reinforcements and can be completely reconfigured, for any mission, and it has an entire ecosystem. It's a modular and more reinforced JPC with the load capability of an SPC. Quite literally a better system than both the former

    Great video and content. AVS can swap buckle sides or you can choose to not use the buckle at all and have both sides just the fabric portion. My opinion, JPC is great for lighter setups. AVS is much better with heavier setups over longer period of time when using the harness.

    His full combat ready kit being only 30lbs is crazy 😂 Earlier in the year I had to do a 2 week course that was required for my deployment and the army IOTV vest they made us wear day in and day out with full front/back/side plates alone was about 30-35lbs and that’s not including ammo, Camelbak, and having an 8lbs rifle slung around your neck for 10 hours in 107 degree heat plus humidity lol…don’t know how I did it, and that was a stripped down version of the vest. The vest is supposed include the butt/groin flap, neck protector, and the arm protection but lucky they didn’t issue that shit to us bc it would’ve made an already bulky vest that much more worse and uncomfortable.
