  • What happens when a spiral meets a spiral? A Criss-Cross. This ingenious pattern is made by combining two spirals into one. A pattern with plenty of potential. Stay tuned to see what we do with it next.
    𝐈𝐧-𝐝𝐞𝐩𝐭𝐡 𝐭𝐢𝐞-𝐝𝐲𝐞 𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
    www.chandye.com/how-to-tie-dy...
    👕 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐢𝐞-𝐝𝐲𝐞 𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 👕
    𝟏) 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Start with a clean 100% cotton blank white shirt.
    Soak the shirt in water then wring it out. Leave it slightly damp.
    𝟐) 𝐌𝐢𝐱 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐲𝐞𝐬
    Using 8oz (230ml) bottles
    Measure and add your dye powder first.
    Add 1 teaspoon of soda ash to the bottle.
    Fill the bottle with water and shake well.
    Don't mix too much at one time - the solution only stays good for a few hours.
    𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 - 𝐃𝐲𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲
    Pastel - 1/20 tsp (0,1g)
    Soft - 1/8 tsp (1g)
    Medium - 1/2 tsp (4g)
    Strong - 1 tsp (8g)
    Powerful - 2 tsp (16g)
    𝟑) 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Choose your favorite technique and follow the folding process.
    Pleat, crumple, and fold your way to success.
    When you're done, bind the shirt using rubber bands or string to secure it in place.
    𝟒) 𝐃𝐲𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Using your dye bottle, apply the dye gently over the shirt. Use your favorite technique or let loose your creativity, there's no wrong way to do it!
    𝟓) 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐲𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭
    Leave the shirt in a warm room. The dye reacts better at a temperature of 70°F (20°C) or more.
    Let the dye react for 8 hours or overnight.
    𝟔) 𝐑𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Rinse your shirt in the sink under cold running water. Open up the shirt while rinsing. Continue rinsing and washing by hand until the shirt stops bleeding.
    Soak the shirt in warm water to remove any remaining dye.
    𝟕) 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Machine wash the shirt by itself or with other tie-dye shirts for the first wash.
    Cold wash with a small amount of detergent.
    After the first time, you can wash your tie-dye shirt with other pieces of clothing.

    I've been wanting to tie dye for a long time. Back in the day, the 70s it was a bit harder and you couldn't be so diverse. I just bought my first kid I've been watching a lot of videos. You by far are the most creative, with patterns and your use of colors. I'm mesmerised when I watch you! My favorite pattern is on a purple shirt with a black outline of a triangle in the center, filled in with I want to say red orange and yellow it looks like fire. It's actually a cross the other side of the center facing the opposite way I believe. I apologize it does have a name I couldn't remember it. Even the way you fold is impeccable. I tried my first small project , I have to say my sincerest respect goes to you!

    • @Chandye
      @Chandye  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      With this type of dye (fiber-reactive) you really only need an alkaline environment which is provided by the soda ash. Apart from that it takes a few hours for the dye to react fully and we don't use vinegar or other chemicals to set the dye.

    • @Chandye
      @Chandye  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello! To make this pattern we first do a complete tie-dye process for the first spiral. This means that we dye the first spiral and let it set for a few hours. When that is done we rinse and wash the shirt.
      When the shirt is clean and the first spiral is completely done you can repeat the tie-dye process from the beginning for the new spiral. Soak it and wring it out and you're now ready to fold and dye a new pattern. I hope this answers your question.

    • @Chandye
      @Chandye  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to be careful how you rinse it. I like to just dunk it in cold water which instantly stops the dye from reacting. Open the shirt underwater or under cold running water and you should be fine.
