Tie-dye pattern P138 : Snowflake

  • Join us today to see the magnificient Snowflake pattern! Made by carefully folding the shirt to make a mirror effect that will duplicate your design.
    In this instance, we are using thickened water to block off the shape of a snowflake. We then simply dye the rest of the shirt with blue dyes while leaving the snowflake white. Be sure to use plenty of dye to make sure it goes through all the layers of fabric.

    👕 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤 𝐭𝐢𝐞-𝐝𝐲𝐞 𝐭𝐮𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐥 👕
    𝟏) 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Start with a clean 100% cotton blank white shirt.
    Soak the shirt in water then wring it out. Leave it slightly damp.
    𝟐) 𝐌𝐢𝐱 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐝𝐲𝐞𝐬
    Using 8oz (230ml) bottles
    Measure and add your dye powder first.
    Add 1 teaspoon of soda ash to the bottle.
    Fill the bottle with water and shake well.
    Don't mix too much at one time - the solution only stays good for a few hours.
    𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐫 𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐭𝐡 - 𝐃𝐲𝐞 𝐪𝐮𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲
    Pastel - 1/20 tsp (0,1g)
    Soft - 1/8 tsp (1g)
    Medium - 1/2 tsp (4g)
    Strong - 1 tsp (8g)
    Powerful - 2 tsp (16g)
    𝟑) 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐝 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Choose your favorite technique and follow the folding process.
    Pleat, crumple, and fold your way to success.
    When you're done, bind the shirt using rubber bands or string to secure it in place.
    𝟒) 𝐃𝐲𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Using your dye bottle, apply the dye gently over the shirt. Use your favorite technique or let loose your creativity, there's no wrong way to do it!
    𝟓) 𝐋𝐞𝐭 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐝𝐲𝐞 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐭
    Leave the shirt in a warm room. The dye reacts better at a temperature of 70°F (20°C) or more.
    Let the dye react for 8 hours or overnight.
    𝟔) 𝐑𝐢𝐧𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Rinse your shirt in the sink under cold running water. Open up the shirt while rinsing. Continue rinsing and washing by hand until the shirt stops bleeding.
    Soak the shirt in warm water to remove any remaining dye.
    𝟕) 𝐖𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐫𝐭
    Machine wash the shirt by itself or with other tie-dye shirts for the first wash.
    Cold wash with a small amount of detergent.
    After the first time, you can wash your tie-dye shirt with other pieces of clothing.

    I really love that you did those snowflake edges like what I do with art. The first side is always really neat and exact, and then the other side is a little messier cause I've already done it before and it's a combination of muscle memory and "fuck it". Which honestly wow what an absolutely stunning shirt, both sides look the same after unfolding it, and it's so beautiful. I love watching these they're really relaxing

    I figured out what I love most about your videos! In the beginning after watching many, the more serious of the peoples made it more of an architectural product( no disrespect how they get it done, I can't do better) with tools of the trade! They had protractors, rulers and other little doodads whatever works for them. You have the eye of a true artist you free hand and have a gift of seeing the center . your folding and pleats are impeccable and I love your eye for patterns and colors. What sets you apart from the rest, is you have relatable patterns for beginners that come out like you were a Pro! I love the flower, the alien I'm going to try them soon, ladybug. That's what it's about! You got your funky side and you have your fun side. I'm amazed at the projects you can do with such little die. Sometimes less is more, but even your more difficult patterns you do them at a nice easy pace and take care to show us both sides. You do it with class. The music is an added bonus, good Tunes no unnecessary talkin to draw your attention from the project. Thank you again for all your great videos
    Please give this a thumbs up if you agree

    Without getting angry at the fact they always make me sleepy.
    The first time I found this channel I didn't even get to see the result of the shirt because I fell asleep while watching, so I had to rewind it, but it's always worth it!

    • @bigschmill294
      @bigschmill294 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If I'm thinking of the same thing, there's a powder that thickens water, makes it more...not syrupy, but less runny(?) idk what its called. but it causes the water to thicken up

    • @nighttaco10blooperton8
      @nighttaco10blooperton8 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It’s water from the thickness factory. They give water some thickness and ship it out.

    • @dkecskes2199
      @dkecskes2199 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      "Thick water" is water that has been made into a thicker consistency with edible food products, for people with medical issues with swallowing runny liquids. It is available pre-made in bottles as a medical supply. It's been used recently in some videos recently for reactions of the hosts, or as a mild "prank", to the hosts' friends or family or pets. As a result the people who need it for their health are having issues getting enough, because viewers of those videos are purchasing all the supply of it.
      I assume if it were to be made for an arts and crafts purpose, one could make it out of any thickener, edible or not. Some more readily available and edible thickeners include grain gluten, agar agar, seaweed, aloe juice, prickly pear pad sap, okra, and for non-vegan sources, egg white and egg yolk, and gelatin. Rubber tree sap (the source of latex) is also used, but definitely not edible. I would recommend someone use agar agar powder for arts and crafts, since it is pretty easy to mix to almost any consistency, has little smell, and the unused powder keeps fresh a long time, as long as it's kept dry.

    • @Chandye
      @Chandye  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Hello! Soda is the dye activator. The dyes we use need high temperature to fully react. We use soda ash (sodium carbonate) to make the solution more basic, that makes it possible for the dye to react at lower temperatures.
