Big cats usually have a signal, and it's usually their tail and their walk that shows they aren't hunting. It's an incredible understanding between many big cats and their prey no matter what climate or which big cat it is, and that is a remarkable and beautiful balance to our harsh world.
Leopards do it, lions do it, and some other cats do it. The prey can always tell when a cat isn't hunting.
