The song is basically about how he was treated while in the sex pistols and how the media treated him and that he wasnt gonna be treated like crap anymore!
Always great to hear a bit of PIL, this is one of my favourite tracks by them. As others have said this isn't the original lineup, John Wardle (Jah Wobble) had left by this time. Jah Wobble and a couple of others did ann excellent track in '82 "How Much Are They?" 'Holger Czukay, Jah Wobble, Jaki Liebezeit' well worth checking out, it's off the album "Full Circle", it was released as a 12" single just before the album.
Ok, may I recommend that you check out "Albatross" from the Metal Box/Second Edition LP. For best effects, I would suggest dimming the lights. Fun fact, my wife and I just saw Jah Wobble, at Third Man Records in Detroit, last week. Great show!
Whenever i hear this, the same memory comes to mind. Though the snippet of the song im thinking of isnt included in this version. It was at The Wickerman Festival, i was in the guys loo, whith about another dozen guys, somebody's phone went off and the ringtone was the beginning of the studio version of this, when John is shouting," hello, hello, hello". Everyone present fell about laughing. I still think about that and laugh. Not the best live version, it doesnt really do justice to the power of PIL live....try Poptones, from the OGWT......Jah Wobble is still the bassist at that point, and it also features the sadly departed, Keith Levine on guitar.
When this came out I was blown away and the future looked bright for PIL , false dawn for me as it was all downhill from there musically . I’ve no idea why you chose this clip as the sound is “ honking “ more than a flight of Canada Geese 🤦♂️ The studio version of this to this day makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up as it’s THAT good and transports me back to the late 70’s early 80’s . This live version just serves to highlight how bad his singing voice actually was ..😮 👍🏴

I thought this was OK for a live performance but as others have said I would have preferred the studio version. I know you can't please everyone ;-) As for John L, his next move after the Pistols was always going to be tricky but I thought this was a great transition song and PIL did some decent stuff. I'm guessing this song was aimed at Malcolm McLaren who was all about the 'Public Image'! Cheers.
You have to listen to the original from 1978. The guitar, bass, drums, and Lydon's vocals are so much better than this much later live version with his makeshift band.
Great, great song. The first 45 I bought. However the original studio version gives you that huge deep bass sound from Wobble and groundbreaking guitar from Levene - neither of them appear on this video (that's Lou Benardi on bass). Wobble did a brilliant version of this song which is worth checking out on his Metal Box Redub album with Jon Klein on guitar. Other Pil songs are obviously Rise and Home. But these days I prefer listening to Jah Wobble's afforementioned album at excessive volume!
@@davidellis5141 Metal Box is really guid andMr Wobble's redo of it fi 2021 (?) is even better. I could never afford it though as it's a Cleopatra Release and they don't have a Distributer over here.

PiL were always an acquired taste. Start with their 1986 album . simply titled "Album" (aka, "Cassette", "Compact Disc"). It was the most (Hell, ONLY) accessible work. Johnny Rotten even convinced no-less-a-drummer than Ginger Baker to play on half of it!
If some company asked you to advertise their product which you used daily and loved, wouldn't you for a million? Only a fool would turn down what is next to free money. This world won't change by singers singing songs, nor by refusing to do adverts. That is immature thinking.
I love the cascading guitar sound on this track. Jah Wobble did a collaboration album in 2011 called Psychic Life with a current artist called Julie Campbell, who performs under the name LoneLady which is very good (as are Julie's solo albums).
Yeah, the album with Julie Campbell is excellent and features Keith Levene on guitar. Tightrope is particularly good - one for the Haniers to check out. It"d a deep bass dance song but easily outclasses the pap pop in the charts.
Although this is a decent live version I would highly recommend that you give the studio version a go as it’s much punchier and the great guitar and bass work is more obvious 👍
Jah Wobble had left the band by the time this live recording was made, the bass just doesn't stack up to the original version. Would be better to watch the official video, sound quality much better and Wobble playing bass, while sitting down, as was his want.

Johnny got to co-host Molly's famous/infamous show a few years later, so obviously no grudges held. I hardly listen to this song these days.

Gotta love PIL, this is not a love song and rise is a must!
John Lydon and Jah Wobble (John Wardle) shared a flat with John Grey and John Simon Ritchie (Sid Vicious). Or The Four Johns as they was called.
Jah Wobble got that name one evening when Sid Vicious was very drunk. He was trying to say John Wardle - but it came out as "Jah Wobble".
