inspirational! lived in NZ for most of my life, and wish I had that stamina!
Great video and a lovely hike!
It was!
Loved the party moss. The trail is such a gem, what a great mixture of everything. 😃
The best!
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I appreciate your videos man, some of your earlier videos have been very influential in my life. Thank you.
I appreciate that! I'm curious which videos, like ones back when I was still gaming a lot?
@@QuadzillaHikes In general the videos from around 6 years ago. The first video I found of yours was 'Quitting Caffeine', I must have watched that video 30+ times. I then really enjoyed the videos where you talked about intuitive decision making (following heart) as opposed to thoughtless hivemind decision making, and how these have great potential to fulfill or make you miserable. It was cool to hear of your experienced example with the startup that you ended up abandoning, because it felt fruitless aside from monetary gain. I just overall respect the hell out of your lifestyle and the way that you think/act. It's cool to see authenticity, and I've derived a lot of my courage recently from some of the messages that you have shared in those videos. Other videos that were awesome were 'superpowers that you can learn from thru-hiking', the float tank doc, and 'how to overcome fear'. Ultimately my favorite thing about watching your channel is the fact that you just do what you want and you live entirely on your own terms. My family is very close minded, doubtful, and security/safety oriented so it's huge for me to be able to see someone limitlessly doing what THEY want to do, without the fear of ridicule/judgement. Your videos are (I think subconsciously at this point) an influential part of why I am quitting my soul sucking job this week to do what I want to do. Hope this clarifies a bit.
@@ZachJulian04 I really appreciate you sharing and wish you the best of luck as you quit the job!!
@@QuadzillaHikes Thanks man!
We did this back in November the same route you went but there was a bunch of snow still on the face. Made for some pretty dodgy sections haha! Best scenery I've seen in NZ to date though
Sounds beautiful and sketchy!
A seriously great day's hike.
One of the best days! Except for that part around the lake, that climb was stupid hard.
Hi Jack, Marvel and company 👋🏻 Always great to hear from you my friends 👊🏻👍🏻Good to see you made it through that loose rock scramble safely 🙏🏻 Stay safe and take care 🙏🏻 God Bless 🫶🏻Appreciate you !
Appreciate you!
You going up Waiau pass : « oh this is fine »
Me going down Waiau pass : *crying while trying not to die*
I guess I’m not quite ready yet for the american trails 😅
Haha well Waiau pass is probably worse than anything you'll see stateside. Going up it NOBO was probably way better than your descent. Going down for us it was loose scree but never felt like you'd fall off the mountain.
Fireball, fireball, fireball....DEATH
Lolol.
Hey Quadzilla! Is Te Araroa hike just simply more of everything and better compared to your triple crown hikes (if you had to choose one of those hikes)? Or is it just the impression from your more active posts (or maybe I just didn't follow you on your triple crown hikes and you were just as active posting videos....)
I think the TA is a great mix of all 3 US trails. Steep steep trail like the AT, but crazy views like the PCT, and also lots of sections of bushwhacking and no visible trail and choose your own adventure like the CDT. Overall I think it's the most beautiful trail I've ever been on. Not one to try to go fast on, definitely much more enjoyable doing 10-15 mile days so the 1mph sections won't bother you too much.
@@QuadzillaHikes Thanks for this. Also - I know this might be just a superficial impression, but I still want to mention it. You seem happier on this hike. I mean I very much admire your "solo on a meaninglful mission" vibe of the triple crown hikes and that approach was extremely inspiring to me. But still, you seem more thoroughly enjoying yourself now.
I did a one year solo surf trip around the world and one of the biggest opiffanies in the end was, that other people / friends are the most important thing.
But sorry for
babbling, thanks
for all the inspiring footage from
the TA!
Marvel's face when she sees the waterfall ❤😊
Such genuine happiness :)
Marvel is just beautiful!
I'm doing the South Island NOBO starting in November. I used a Gossamer Gear The Two for my AT thru in 2022, but I feel like a two-layer tent is probably a good idea for New Zealand. What would you recommend as far as tents go?
Also, what are you thoughts on Old School Runescape? It's my game of choice to pair with hiking/backpacking.
I say whatever tent you have and like is the best one, but if you're gonna get a new one a double wall isn't the worst idea. Freestanding can be nice for NZ as well as it can be tough to find enough room to pitch at times.
I never got into runescape, at that time I was playing Ultima Online, pretty similar games I think. I love that system of just having a character you build however you like with whatever skills and such an open world, no real quests, no real raids, just do whatever you want build your house chop trees. I spent so much time just chopping trees and mining ore haha.
