I'm really glad that, while the game itself has a wholly original soundtrack (that still follows the philosophy of Hirokazu Tanaka), they still include a few staples like this theme.
So smart to put this during a pivotal story moment rather than some other area. I appreciated how basically all of the old music that was remade was relegated to cutscenes and not areas, it really helps the story beats feel connected to the past games while allowing the new areas feel completely foreign by having all new music. It was very special to hear this in game, and Dread was a really special game all around.
I like that they brought this back, but I also like that they didn't just randomly shove it into an area to cash in on nostalgia. It actually is really cool the one time it plays.
Cashing in on nostalgia was the one thing I was worried about, especially since Samus Returns was filled with it. Metroid was never a series about throwing nostalgic things at the player. It was always advancing and growing. I'm so glad that Mercury Steam proved me wrong by showing an *immense* amount of restraint and respect for the series by evolving it, but appropriately paying homage to the series' past when it was actually relevant in game.
Granted, Samus Returns was a remake, so it made sense to reuse familiar tunes, but they were definitely playing it safe back then. The fanfares in particular were pulled straight from Prime, weren't they? And Lower Norfair was THE theme of ultra-heated areas.
@@SparkpadArt Yeah, I hated Lower Norfair in SR (it already wore on me after backtracking so much through Magmoor in Prime 1), and i don't really like the intro song from Super Metroid being reused for every game from now on, but I don't mind remixing the fanfares and item room theme for every game, since they're tied to mechanics that have the same context across multiple games regardless of area, like Sonic's drowning music or the Final Fantasy victory jingle, and they don't play in full areas of the map, only a few rooms here and there or when you get an item.
The fanfares are fine, but I prefer when they're rearranged for each game, or at least each system. Gives them a sense of identity. Samus Returns didn't have that, which is especially jarring when the original Metroid 2 had a different key for the item sound and a completely different Samus intro.
everybody always says norfair's theme is the most iconic song in the series, but to me this will always be THE metroid song. it perfectly encapsulates the vibe of the series, being alone on a weird alien planet.
"He worships at the alter power," That line goes so hard, especially since it's spoken while the image of Raven Beak and the other Mawlin Chozo stand over the bodies of the Thoha tribe they just massacred. This music goes along so well with the whole scene. It's perfect for Chozo lore.
@@Kid_Ying I just got to the part in the game where this plays. I’m so glad it’s not an area theme, it was perfect for what it was. Idk why I complained. It’s an amazing song.

I'm so glad that I played Super Metroid a month prior of this game's release.
What a song... it's a pleassure seeing that it continues appearing in Metroid games. Loved it since Super Metroid.
Mann just go to this part legit made me cry i love this theme man i always have ever since super metriod
Pure joy, seriously. This scene was just joy.
I will admit I had to cry as soon as this started playing. It was like coming home. What a beautiful point in the story.
it is a good time to be a Metroid Fan
My favorite piece of Metroid music
I was overcome with emotion when I first realized what it was during Quiet Robe's story
"He worships at the alter power,"
That line goes so hard, especially since it's spoken while the image of Raven Beak and the other Mawlin Chozo stand over the bodies of the Thoha tribe they just massacred. This music goes along so well with the whole scene. It's perfect for Chozo lore.
I just adore the little detail of adding the jingle of the Chozo ceremonial robes to the beat of the music.
I love lower brinstar, but it seems like this and lower Norfair get remixed in every game.
EDIT: I changed my mind. This is amazing in every way.
For good reason.
@@Kid_Ying I just got to the part in the game where this plays. I’m so glad it’s not an area theme, it was perfect for what it was. Idk why I complained. It’s an amazing song.
While that’s true, I think this game uses lower brinstar in a much more interesting way then some of the other remixes, regardless tho who doesn’t love lower brinstar haha
@@deatsbybre7162 Got there last night. Really good stuff.
@@Kid_Ying Agreed. It’s probably jarring as shit for newcomers to just get to a lore dump like that though. That part was clearly there for the fans.
This scene made me fucking cry dude. I love Metroid
One of the best moment of the game.
God, when I heard Samus speak in this game, I cried joy.
This scene was utterly amazing
Biggest chills when I heard this
I really just wish you could hear this in an area of the game instead of one time in a cutscene. It's so good it's a shame it only plays once. It's also my favorite theme in the series.
I think this might be my favorite piece of music of all time.
"Sebulba" -Quiet Robe
Hi shit I was so focused on absorbing the lore that I didn’t even notice this track in the background. This is one of my favorite songs from the franchise and this version really does it justice.
The scene when this song plays made me shed a tear, it was so well made, a stellar metroid moment.
Loved it in Super Metroid.
Loved it IMMENSELY in Echoes.
And I still love it to this day in Dread.
Oh my, i was searching for this, IT'S SO EPIC.
This game really surprised me, it basically proved to me, a metroid fan, that Nintendo still has it, they dident forget how to make a metroid game
This game is truly a love letter to this franchise, the amount of work they put into this is insane!
Meanwhile Back to metroid prime 2 underwater level trying get the Gravity boost with this song is lit!
Never gets old.
Master piece ❤
My favorite song in Super Metroid has returned!
I don't know why I got tearful when Samus spoke, but I did, and that's ok.
What a great take on my favorite Metroid track.
This theme has now officially become the Chozo theme! Also I feel like Super Metroid using this version of Red Brinstar would fit perfectly.
I’m glad they used the Samus Returns remix as the basis for this remix. That one is by far the best version of this song so far (yes, better than Torvus Catacombs) - but they’re all so amazing. Goes to show how good this song is!
the whole cutscene gave me chills. especially when i instantly recognized this theme.
Fucken goosebumps. Dread might be over but I know nintendo is making sure prime 4 is gonna be INSANE
Thank you so much for the video!
I love this song :')
Imagine ridley’s lair/hideout in this game would be so nice tbh.
And even a fight against Ridley or something that it’s looks like him would be very cool
So glad they brought back my favourite track in the series.
