- In this video I will share a vlog of one of the most dramatic days we had this summer. It starts with a scenic drive, then has the heartbreak and agony of losing our drone, then has a posh extravagant dinner at an epic country manor house and then finishes with a visit to a North Yorkshire city with Downton Abbey vibes.
June 12th was the day we left the Scottish Borders and drove to our hotel in Leeds. As we were leaving Scotland, on picturesque drive through a lush green valley, we saw this lovely reservoir and decided Ian should take some drone photography over it. So Ian flew the drone… and lost it! After a couple frantic hours it was recovered, but here is the video of that harrowing tale: • How to NOT Lose your D...
We celebrated our immense relief at retrieving the drone by enjoying an unusually lush meal at the stunning Grantley Hall. We loved our supper at EightyEight Restaurant, and this video shows all the great food we ordered!
After dinner we took a stroll around the nearby city of Ripon. I recognized the name from watching Downton Abbey and was chuffed to explore this interesting and charming little city!

It's like experiencing your wonderful time in England all over again. What a wonderful, and I'd say, exciting day! The countryside, the sheep, the FOOD oh my the FOOD, the lovely buildings, expensive cars and the town square. Treasures and memories that will linger for a long time to come. That one was great, although I do worry Dara; reminding us of your ability to talk to sheep is the 2nd sign of madness. It was nice to see Ian smiling in the restaurant, however, it was a different story when he lost the drone lol. Oh we are the same when it comes to talking to animals, I do it all the time (in German, I can't help it). I really love the restaurants, food looks amazing.
My favourite thing is that you speak to the animals in German… which I’m sure they understand as well as my English! 😂😂
I’m always happy to find really interesting and delicious food that is also healthy, like that meal was! 💖

Great video as always! Watched it this morning while cooking breakfast and laughed about your good-hearted humor about the drone's final shots, ugh how frustrating that must have been! I remember them referencing Ripon in Downton Abbey so that was really neat to see!

Our hotel has flooded. 😂😂 I love animals too. It's great to be able to bond with them. Oh how i can imagine that feeling of losing the drone. Happened more than once over here, although the last time we lost it in the jungle. Beautiful places featured in this video and you had good weather too. Quite some fancy cars indeed! 😮 That restaurant really looks fancy, the food made me hungry, it looks amazing! Very nice tour around and interesting information as well. 😄

@@MagentaOtterTravels We sure do, there are plenty of amazing animals here. Although less enthusiastic when a venomous eyelash viper appeared on our patio the other day. 😅Beautiful specimen though. The jungle trip where we lost and looked for the drone is not out yet. We did featured some of the footage in our new promo though. It will be part of our new upcoming series starting this Sunday. Those drones really do a number on your health when they go rogue. 😂 I also mention Ian in the video as it takes a drone owner to understand the lengths one goes through to retrieve it when it gets lost. 😉It will be out soon as we still are ahead trying to catch up with our videos. Getting there though. 😄
Yorkshire is so beautiful! The closest we got to Yorkshire was the town of Buxton which was the first place in the UK (I think) to bottle and sell water. The waters there were said to be therapeutic. Ps…. I like talking to the animals too!) ❤️

Perfect segue talking about Buxton… Because next Friday’s video is about the spa town of Harrogate! Those are 2 spas that I know still have bottled water in their name, Buxton and Harrogate.

The gardens at Grantley Hall look really lovely. It was interesting to me at least that all the fancy cars were parked facing outwards. Are all their drivers skilled at reverse parking!? Is that a prerequisite to drive a fancy car, must be where I'm going wrong!!
I wasn't surprised by how the cars were parked.... having lived near Beverly Hills CA and now living in Texas, it's a "thing" at nice restaurants that the posh people valet park their cars. The skilled valets park the cars... and always put the most fancy/expensive ones at the front in full view of other customers. I guess so that we can be impressed with what a nice place it is, and be jealous of those more wealthy customers!! haha
I also like talking to animals. often times more than people! ☺️

I live in Ripon, I have for 25 years I'm from the North East, Gateshead south of the Tyne. You've missed so much from Newcastle and lovely Ripon... What a shame
It’s impossible to see it all on one brief trip. But we plan to go back! It is a shame I didn’t even get to go into the cathedral at Rippon!

Sad that you didn't have the opportunity to show us the inside of the Ripon baths....but the outside is beautiful although it could need some restauration.

👍 Great to see you in our home county of Yorkshire. Ripon and it's race course are nice, and nearby there are other nice places to visit such as Fountains Abbey (one of our favorite Abbeys) with beautiful grounds & there's also Ripley castle where they have country shows & fairs in the summer time (our daughter has taken her horse to some of the shows there). Grantley Hall looks grand, a bit different to Betty's Tea Rooms ! The cars look grand too, we think Ian would look good in the Aston Martin which is used by James Bond. With Ian at the wheel he would look the part, especially with his Bond girl Dara at his side ! 😉 They have built an exact replica of the Aston Martin used in the first Bond film, it will set you back £2.7 million if you want one, it was demonstrated on This Morning TV.
Yes, Grantley Hall was a FAR cry from Betty's... you are quite right! We are sad we didn't get the chance to visit Fountains Abbey, but definitely hope to on our next visit!

The garage which was used in the filming of Downton is located in Beamish, the museum village 9 miles north of Durham. It is a must see on your next visit. When we visited Ripon we happened upon the cathedral choir rehearsing a lovely Christmas program and had a lively, friendly theological discussion with one of the docents. We also chanced to meet the current town hornblower in his tricorner hat and uniform carrying The Charter Horn which he blows nightly in the Market Square in a brief ceremony dating back to King Alfred the Great in the 800's. There is also a bellman, whose role dates back to the 1300's, who rings the bell opening the twice weekly market. Ripon is a small place full of tradition and history.
Oh wow, I had no idea that garage was at the Beamish museum! I have two friends that work there, and I will DEFINITELY be visiting next time I'm in Durham... hopefully next summer!

How traditional can you get, a Korean meal in Yorkshire. It looked scrumptious.
I had no idea it would be an Asian restaurant, given the setting! But I was not disappointed, because we love Asian food and the flavours were fantastic! 😋
Highclere Castle is just 40 minutes from me, we visited it a few years ago and met Lady Canarven, (well I say met, we were never introduced, but she gave a little speech )😉
I was waiting for you to mention that! I remember ages ago you told me you lived near there. How nice that you got to hear from the lady of the manor!
Of course, a lot of Downton Abbey was filmed in the Cotswolds as well, for the village scenes. I need to go to Bampton one day and check it out!

One of MANY filming locations. I need to visit some of the others! They have some lovely ones in the Cotswolds as well! As for Mr. Bates, I ran into the actor (Brendan Coyle) at the John Lewis store in London. We were checking out the same bedding on display and I looked up and saw that it was him! My heart just about stopped. That was one of the times I was SO angry that I didn't have my camera in my hand... AND that the battery was dead! haha

Yes, the drone has our phone number on it and civil aviation reg number. BUT it was lost in such an obscure area, I'm not sure if/when anyone would bump into the little thing! We learned that we need to have internet connection with the drone, and not use a iPad with no connectivity as a controller. THAT was the fatal error in this case. Good thing we had divine intervention in this one... because it was a miracle we found it! haha
Great vid, though i thought i was having a deja vu moment for a minute. The lost drone, the hotel, I remember querying which restaurant as they have a few. And then I remembered the previews... And sorry Dara, but was Ian having a mad half hour? No need for dessert! there's always a need for dessert, what an odd notion :)
Yes I wasn’t necessarily planning on doing a vlog about Grantley Hall… but when I did the last drone video (that same day) people asked me “Where did you go? What was it like?” So I figured I needed to go ahead and do a video!

I think it was all different kinds of Asian food. Nothing was too spicy, which I appreciated! The flavours were delicious. Are you not a fan of vegetables?

Mr. Morgan did stop downtown Indy during Gumball 3000 few years back and we went to see the car. My former boss also told me he visited the factory in Malvern. For some reason your channel fell off my updates; I see it now. Big Top Gear fan. We were in studio audience few years back. Ian should join us at Amelia Island in March. Lots of car fun. If I ever can get back, I'll go to Goodwood hopefully next year.

You didn't mention the Ripon Wakeman! Every night since around 800 A.D. he blows his horn at the four corners of the marketplace at 2100 hrs to let the locals know that he is keeping a watch against Viking invaders. You can't be too careful of those pesky Scandinavians!

We really wanted to. It was on the schedule, since we have NT membership, but we ended up not having time due to events like losing the drone.
