    I love cheese. Especially extra mature cheddar. But I love the fact that we have so many types of cheese and will try them.
    There is a farm just outside Exeter who makes traditional cloth bound cheese. The company is called Quickes and they make my favourite type of cheese. They do have an online shop now which is good.
    But I adore cheese and like several types of it.

      Had you heard of the Rachel cheese I tried in this video? With your name, I think you must try it! Plus, it was tasty... so I highly recommend :-)
      We are just about to leave Devon now and head to Cornwall... sorry I didn't hear about the cheese company in time to try it. Next time I'm in Devon hopefully I can try Quickes. The local cheese where we are now comes from Okehampton. Thanks for your comment! Always nice to meet another cheese fan!❤

    Shires are counties. In medieval times, the Shire-reeve....well, here it is...The modern office of sheriff in the United States descends from a one-thousand-year-old English tradition: a "shire-reeve" (shire-keeper) is the oldest appointment of the English crown. Because county governments were typically the first established units of government in newly settled American territories, sheriffs were among the first elected public officials in an area and thus developed a leading role in local law enforcement.

    How come Gloucester has to be made in Gloucester etc , BUT cheddar can be made any where else !!!! Why can yanks make a cheese and call it cheddar and get away with it !!! Even if its orange and taste like soap !!!!

    • @MagentaOtterTravels
      @MagentaOtterTravels  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Very good questions indeed. I guess the folks managing the "Double Gloucester" trademark did a better job protecting it than the Cheddar folks. What a shame.
      On a related note, I hope to visit Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole this summer! I love Wookey Hole cheese... yum!
      Thanks for your comment. Cheers! XX Dara

    Hi Dara. Have you tried Welsh Rarebit? No rabbit! It's grated cheese mixed with a splash of Worcester Sauce and a little mustard. All mixed together on a low heat then spread over a slice of crusty bread toasted on one side and grilled until it bubbles and just darkens in parts. Traditionally made a meal in Wales when you couldn't afford meat (rabbit).

    • @OblivionGate
      @OblivionGate 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@petersymonds4975 Welsh Rarebit is actually made with butter and flour into a Roux or a Panada, then beer is added to make a really thick sauce, then Cheddar Cheese, Worcestershire sauce, English mustard and pepper are added, this is then spread on the one sided toast and grilled until hot and bubbly. This is the proper way to make it. It should "Puff" up due to the roux mixture and should be creamy in texture. Obviously this is more work than the way you do it but otherwise its just cheese on toast. With all due respect.

My dad used to say that Lynburger Cheese (and I don’t know if I spelled it right) was made by aging it under a pile of manure. People are very friendly (so long as you are) and everything is pretty relaxed. A lot of Turks have little idea on how to drive but once all the tourists go home it can be very pleasant driving around. Compared to the UK and probably the USA it can all seem a bit chaotic and of course the language can be a problem (you need to be good at charades hen shopping sometimes). Lived here 12 years and no regrets or second thoughts!!
