Im sure they will kill but i heard diffrent from a veteran of normandy interview. He said the carbine was issued to paratrooper and mainly guys in the rear and he said he shot a german one time and he just kept running. But that if u hit one with a m1 garand they would instantly drop. I could see how the 30 carbine isnt that lethal at distances. I mean over all it is lethal just not instant like many of the larger bullets like the m1 garand or 8mm mauser or 7.62 x54r. But for what it is the m1 carbine is a really cool gun. Maybe ur grandpa just hit a good spot or maybe the other fella didnt hit a good spot. Idk i wasnt there. But I wish i was alive back in 50s n 60s i heard u could get one of these for like 8 bucks. Ten bucks. And that they was so plentiful u could find them at hardware shops in a umbrella bucket. Take ur pick. Now days they are expensive and valuable. Any kind of us military surplus firearms will only go up in vakue. They are hifhky sought after in America. I been seeing springfield 1903s aell for 1200 and 1500. Its crazy.

@@EliteNirvana What I find remarkable about a US soldier hitting an enemy soldier who is camouflaged and moving fast as hell while under all the stress of combat is not that a single hit didn't instantly drop him but that he was was able to hit him at all! That's a really hard shot to land and your best chance of landing even one hit is with an M1 carbine, a much lighter weapon with a closer center of gravity, less recoil (even for the lower weight) and twice as many shots (15+1 or 8+0).
I think the M1 is underestimated as it's just seen as weaker for not advantage when you're going to be hitting way more often with .30 Carbine compared to the Garand.

Almost like 30-06 is absolute overkill for a human.... I don't doubt the ballistics of the carbine. I'm SURE it would not be pleasant to be hit with.

@AVGN1774actually I've seen where a guy was at the bottom of a stairway with a pipe and the police were at the top. They told him to drop the pipe and he charged up the stairs at them. An officer shot him 10-15 times with 9mm jhp. He kept charging and hit the officer in the head with the pipe before collapsing and dying. There's no shortage of people continuing to fight after being lethally wounded. Even people in the middle east being shot with M240B machine guns shooting 7.62x51mm and getting up to run away. Of course they died but before they did, they had enough time left to get up and run or do the terrible things they set out to do in the first place. People don't just instantly drop every time.

@@jarrodshipard Bronze star was awarded to people who were not involved in air operations but showed uncommon achievement, it was intended to maintain morale for those who would be unlikely to get a silver star. I'm no expert on WWII, but I could see the possibility of getting a bronze star and the later becoming a paratrooper if your company was assigned to participate in an air operation (which were sporadic during WWII) which then gave the opportunity to earn a silver star.
It could also be that the guy misunderstood what his grandfather said. That happens. Regardless, congratulations and thanks to the grandfather for his service.

However, i don't kick against holding but i feel it is best to accumulate the little you hold with a good strategy/signal and this period has given us the opportunity to also buy cheap and grow a strong portfolio with a working strategy/daily signals. Due to some personal research conducted few months ago about a working strategy/daily signals, I got to know about James Hamilton who is a pro trader and signals provider that turns out to be a dream come through, during my first month of following Hamilton's guide and trading signals, i was able to accumulate and grow a total of 6.9btc with my initial 1btc within a month. Failure to feed and eject is a fairly common issue with the rifle. From what I understand, it's common with all of them. Also, a little something I learned about. Make sure you have the M2 mag catch when using 30 round mags. It gives extra support to the magazine and prevents the notches on the magazines from sheering off from the recoil.

Ian from forgottenweapons put the “Russian wool coat myth” to bed. He believes that these were cases in which bullets actually grazed the person whil not actually hitting them. I have the same rifle but standard stock. I’ve noticed that the gun runs great when throughly lubricated. Brand new out of box with some lubricant, it jammed frequently. Wasn’t until I put a lot of lubricant and ran the new 10rd magazines with 8 rounds did it run smooth. I find a little spray gun lube worked great during target practice which I recommend using a little every 100-200 rounds. Love the rifle, not a fan of the rocker mags a lot of other guns from that era have. Simple, strong, accurate and light.

I read that the gunpowder chemical structure in the M1 carbine cartridge was adversely affected by the extremely low temperatures of the Korean winters in the Korean War, e.g. Marines at Chosin Reservoir where night time low temps sometimes went down to -40F.

    • @GeorgiaBoy1961
      @GeorgiaBoy1961 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@ horatiodreamt - Those stories may have some basis in fact since the development of temperature-resistance propellants is a relatively recent phenomenon, i.e., propellants or powders which are not adversely effected by extremes of high or low temperature. It isn't just the ammo, either. Many lubricants freeze solid or nearly so in such conditions, and firing an ice-cold weapon with too much lube on it and using ammo which is also cold, so it isn't hard to see how less-than-optimal results may take place.
Good troops with proper cold weather training and gear know their unit SOPs for taking care of weapons and equipment in extreme cold. They'll be issued the correct viscosity lubricants (if lubricants are to be used at all) and have well-sorted procedures for handling weapons in those conditions.
Self-correcting problem to the extent that fast-firing weapons heat up rapidly.

Some of the bullet chambers were machined a little rough. Some 600 grit sandpaper on a brass cleaning brush and a few strokes will usually cure sticking brass cases. A little anti-seize compound swabbed into the bullet seating area and then swabbed out with a dry patch works wonders too.

I recently picked up the Auto Ordnance M1 Carbine from my LGS. The one I have was made in their new facility in Greeley PA. Before buying I made sure the feed ramp was nicely polished and the action was smooth. I took it home, cleaned it, and greased it with TW25b. I worked the action a couple hundred times while watching TV. Today I took it to the range and fired Aguila ammo (the only brand my LGS had in stock) thru it. I had no failures of any kind. The trigger is a little heavy at 7 lb and it has a slight gritty-ness to it, but not horrible. The sights were perfect for windage. I was only able to fire it at 25 yards and the rounds grouped a little low and there was some vertical stringing. This is not unexpected for a light barrel and considering the barrel was cold, un-fouled and had no rounds thru it. I expect that to lessen as the barrel breaks in. The accuracy was certainly acceptable for a battle rife. In the future I'll shoot it at 50, 100, and 150 yds.

A significant advantage of this carbine over the AR for home defense is that the blast and noise is far less, producing less distraction and hearing disability. Touching off several rounds in a hallway would be far less unpleasant. Outdoors, the noise level seems to be little more than a .22 Magnum.

I think the feelings about the M1 carbine being underpowered would be different if expanding ammo was allowed in wartime. Those 2 liters were clearly exploding.

    • @Shadow_Hawk_Streaming

Exactly, outside of FMJ a larger slow bullet that expands is vastly more devastating

If legal where you live [I'm behind the Granola Curtain; other foreign enclaves like NJ might have similar restrix against them] you can get .30cal sabots & handload your M1 'bine ammo w/ 22cal bullets. Yes, the accuracy is degraded, but you can push them much faster than the 110gr FMJ bullets, and get further into the hydroshock territory. Remember, velocity is the key to hard target penetration.

It's funny you mentioned they had rings of copper building up in the chamber. Ian from Forgotten Weapons did a video on the true heroes of the M1 Carbine, and he described them having the same issues during development. They added chamfers to the chamber to aid feeding and prevent shaving of copper.

Yes, but in constant dollars that would have been what, $650 today? Still a steal, for a legit U.S. .mil production M1 'bine, but not *quite* the price differential we see at first glance! In contrast, my AR-15 in -A2 config was $900 when I got it; that would be >$1800 in todays FRN$, yet nowhere near as flexible as a modern AR w/ collapsing stock, MLOK rail, etc. for 1/2 the price. [Well, the going rate was 1/2 the price *before* the CCP virus & election fears did a number on the supply/demand curves!]

The issue with these auto ordnance rifles is the finish is very rough, they have to tumble the parts to round the edges, the front of the chamber is very sharp and rounds stop on that, just have to polish it and they work very well after that.

When I was in the Marines, '77-'81, stationed at Camp Pendleton. I bought AR-180, Sterling. Another Marine bought an M-1 Carbine, Universal, at one of those Membership stores they use to have in California. He didn't have a membership,
didn't tell me. We followed some woman thru the door. The woman showed her membership card, and Joe told me to get my wallet out. As we reached for our wallets, the guy waved us thru. The woman was headed the direction we needed to go, so we just followed her till she walked by gun department. Then we peeled off to sporting goods, then she waved and said she would be over in that department(she pointed). We waved back and started looking thru the rifle racks. I saw the M-1, asked to see it. Clerk got it down, checked the chamber, then handed it to me. It was $199.99, Joe looked at it , after I checked the chamber then handed it to him. Joe bought it and 2 boxes of 100 rnds each. Went shooting the next morning, and after shooting that Carbine, I wished I had bought one. We kept in touch for 15 yrs, then never heard from him again. But still had that carbine ,and would take his son out shooting. He never had any problems with it! One of those that got put together correctly, with apparently great parts! And he kept all his guns CLEAN!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's my understanding that those "failure to stop" incidents in Korea were during the Korean winter. I've heard it attributed to the action being made sluggish because the cold was effecting the lubricant being used at the time.
