You can clearly see her love for Wicked shine through in this performance and how she has been singing these songs since her childhood. I mean Ariana as a kid visited Kristen Chenoweth backstage at Wicked back when she was originating the role of Glinda and even gave Ariana one of her wands!
All her broadway performances are fun. There’s an old vid of her and Liz Gillies singing Will You Light My Candle from Rent and it is so good and so cute. I adore hem together
maybe its just me but i can never tell what words she's singing in her pop songs - it just songs like notes not words ( but she is talented for sure -she hits all those notes) - but when she sings more broadway her diction is clearer and i actually enjoy listening to it - i hadn't seen this performance before and was pleasantly surprised with how broadway and how well enunciated it was - particularly in the first half
Amy Clarke Yes, that’s because the loose diction thing is a style choice. In her pop music she chooses that style, but from her broadway performances we clearly see that she can enunciate. But also, these days she’s been enunciating more even in her pop songs
I’m sure it’s been mentioned in comments already but what makes this even more insane, is she and Pete had just broken up like, a day or couple days prior. And Mac had passed not long before. She was going THROUGH it at this time. She has the band aid on her finger covering her Pete tattoo. No clue how she pulled this off.
I love her makeup here too! I could never rock green lipstick this well! 🙌🏽😍😂 I like Ariana’s version and how she made it her own without it being too far from musical theatre! She’s got such a great voice! Xx

I was there in person, about 5 feet away. Quite a few performers had to do their performances twice (Idina & Kristen included) and Ariana, 1 and done. Absolutely flawless. Seeing Ariana at the absolute peak of her fame and Idina & Kristen sing Wicked songs all night? best night ever.
It literally makes me so fucking happy knowing one of my favorite vocalists loves musical theater and has a background in it. It's always wonderful to hear her cover theater songs, like she couldnt be any cooler. Lol
There is a great analysis of this song that shows how this song changed musical theatre forever…also may be Stephen Schwartz’s best musical theatre song he every has written…including that when he writes “Unlimited” it is a modulated sound of the opening of “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” first notes…genius song writing…
She sounds so amazing and she is amazing. Although I wouldn’t cast her for Elphaba like many want her to be, I would probably cast her as Glinda just because she has a lighter voice and is and Elphaba is an alto. Again this is just my opinion
