  • Wimbledon's 1988 FA cup winning side is up for discussion, and Dotun and Tim discuss how they maybe weren't the cleanest team under Harry Bassett, with players like Vinnie Jones and John Fashanu. Tim tells a story about when Nottingham Forest played Wimbledon and in the captains meeting before the game Brian Clough tries to prove to Des Walker that John Fashanu isn't as hard as he seems.

True story. What a personality Clough was. There will never be anyone even near him.

I was just behind the goal at Plough Lane during a 2-2 draw between my team (Sunderland) and Wimbledon. We had a 17 year old centre half called Richard Ord who wasn't giving Fashanu a sniff so 'The Bash' gave him a backwards headbutt on a corner and then leaned over and said something very unpleasant as he ran his finger through the open gash on Dickies eyebrow. Within 5 minutes our captain, Gary Bennett, went through Fashanu on a 50/50 and he limped off whining. Benno was a complete gent and a lovely bloke (I met him on a few occasions) and unless you were David Speedie he was a completely fair player and model pro - he showed Fashanu up for the bully he was

There are few players who I truly hate . But can make an exception for the thuggish Fashanu. Media seemed to love him; wonder why ?

What the fuck does that have to do with anything. Wimbledon were what they were on the pitch. Fashanu had a sad end to his life. Let him rest. Let him find the peace in death, he never had in life.

I met someone from Derby who was a member of Derby Labour Club. So was Brian Clough. This guy said that Clough was unrecognisable at the Labour Club. He smiled, was polite, knew all the bar staff's names and was as quiet as a mouse. I sometimes wonder if all this showmanship was just an act he put on for the footballing side of his life....

Not at all. When he was around women he was respectful and gentleman like. I’m not being confrontational, but are you the same in your job life as your social life? Perhaps not.
