  • The GREATEST guitar pedal for an alternative/grunge sound... // I truly believe that you could make some amazing alternative/grunge music with just one Big Muff pedal! It's so good that my band have about 5 different versions of it.
Today we're going to look at what I think makes the Big Muff (the op amp big muff here) so special and I'll play some hap-hazard guitar riffs to demonstrate it. Let me know if there's a pedal that could take the crown off of this beauty in the comments.
Grab this thing here (It's an affiliate link so ill get some money if you buy from this): amzn.to/3paNgwa
Take a listen to this stuff in action (my band) : / octoberdrift

Awesome sounds in there! For great Big Muff sounds I recommend to check out “Sorry!” by Catherine, a now forgotten Chicago band with ties to Smashing Pumpkins, they basically showed them the pedal.

Hey, its not an opamp switch. Its for sure a bit confusing because the word "opamp" is right next to the tone bypass switch, but it has no transistors in the circuit. Its a tone bypass that the v5's used to bypass the tone section of the circuit.

Live the video, just a quick thing when you said the pedal had an "Op Amp switch" this isn't true....
The Op Amp Big muff uses an "Op Amp/Operational Amplifier" instead of Transistors to amplifier and clip the Wave form which is what traditional big muffs use.
The switch on this pedal is actually a tone switch which is used to bypass/removed the tone control from the circuit.
So the whole idea of the Op Amp muff is the manner in which the distorted signal is produced is done by component type than the big box muff you have.
Try the Russian reissue it's heaven for grunge and hard rock, I'd never be without mine.

Google Kit Rae Big Muff and enjoy the site. Everything youd ever want to know about them

@@thesethingsmakenoises Thanks for the suggestion, but I am just getting the parts together to make a clone of the 29 Pedals Euna, its basically a fancy buffer and if that goes well, I will probably just try to make my own Tone Bender. I have a really bad pedal habit, so I figured I could get more bang for my buck if I could build some of them lol
