Saw your son at washougal in 83 or 84 ,,he won that day ,,,I believe he won the title that year also!! Those days were so awesome,,box vans ,,pit tootsies ,,me and my friend snuck into the pits at that race and you could literally walk right up to their box vans and bikes, and talk to the riders!!! I met your son ,,,Hannah,,Barnett, ward, Chandler,Glover lechien,Johnson ,dymond, just to name a few !!! I got gobs of stickers and my friend got Barnett's rear tire off his bike he won the 125 class on !!!! Those days are the best memories of my life !!!
i remember running to the store to read about who won and it was great i got enthralled in the race just by reading wow how things have changed i feel blessed to be born when i was
I don't think he made it past lap 2. He was pushing too hard and probably would have tired himself out,if he had kept that pace too deep into the 45 minute moto.
I remember reading an article that David wrote about this race.....on the first lap Lechien went flying by everybody on the downhills at warp speed. David thought "If I have to go THAT fast to win then forget it, he can have it" only to see Lechien on the ground a lap later holding his shoulder. Crashing onto that rock hard Carlsbad track.
Jody Wesiel was quoted saying Thorpe was the worlds fastest amateur . . . Lol . . . Got to love that Jody Wesiel . . . Read his motocross action mag column from the early 70's
85 was Broc's last good year. SX title should have been his, in my opinion. For someone to take that 490 and whip everybody else!!! That takes talent and hard work 💪
Lechine sam posy is at this point in his motocross career far from being a rookie dumb-ass. And that corner he slid though with his back brake locked was a very professional move to enter and exit with extreme precision and he executed it perfectly. Ronnie from this race on was to become one of the fastest 500cc riders but his off track party style eventually caught up with him along with not even throwing a leg over his practice bikes between races, and in doing so was given the nominee of the best natural talent rider in motocross . . . Hats off Mr Lechine the machine
i was a little tike and recorded this race on a betamax tape and watched it at least 100 times. I still like that jt face mask Ron Lechiens wearing. Only Die hard motocrossers know/remember that face mask.
i had one i bought a 79 yz 80 for 800 bucks bran new worked so hard for it paper route yard clean ups firewood nothing came easy still dont i got scammed pretty good and they keep trying no good indian red dot on their forehead should be a target on the scumbag thieves
it looks like water cooled bikes, but i remember the first 500 CR (1984) was air cooled.... but no way they are racing air cooled Japanese bikes here, right ? (except the Yamaha ,maybe ? )
how to degrade a guy out wear pink so anyone behind you is thinking im getting smoked by a guy wearing pink pants lol broc was the man total pro what an animal
I want to thank you for taking the time to share all of this wonderful footage with all of us. I really enjoy all of it!

Thanks Gary, Keep them coming.
!!Honda had such awesome bikes in that era!!!
The Machine doing his best Magoo imitation for a few laps ..
F Khan he was gone until that front end wash out! Dirt Bike Survival tactics needed😀

The Machine was a very stylish rider. The way he slid the back wheel around the hairpin with both feet on the pegs was so cool. 4:29
I never grow tired of seeing this race. Just epic!! Second Moto start was amazing.
Thank You Mr. Bailey for sharing this.
This is awesome.
In my opinion David is the best MX rider ever.
Thanks

Ron Lechien was showing the best riders in the world how it's done, if he would have stayed up nobody would have came close to touching him .
Looking for 84 125 races ??

eyalcr500 these are the '85 CR500s. The '84 Works 500's were water cooled but production bikes were air cooled.
