It is ironic that Sidious is the pinnacle of the Rule of Two he believed that he was irreplaceable to the Order of the Sith, but it was his fear of being replaced that made it impossible for him to train a successor.

Even more ironic, is that in the Plagueis novel, Plagueis had discovered how to manipulate midichlorians to reverse aging all together. He intended to share this knowledge with Sidious so they could rule as partners and keep each other alive. Palpatine kills Plagueis before he ever gets to tell the former.

He only wanted to use his fillings against Jedi. Think, If he cares for Anakin he would order Dooku to do not cut Skylwaker’s limba. Only force lighting, force chocke to only lost consciousness. Humilieted to Padme and that he is weak and how he suposted protect his wife Padme Amidala so he couldn’t save his mother. Dooku would said only one thing to Anakin that the slave from Tatoine was a shame to his father so he didn’t stay with Anakin. We know that Skylwaker was creation of the force but Anakin didn’t knew that. Dooku would told him to use a force, not lightsaber. Maybe Fooku could somehow teach Anakin some Dark side force abilities. After Darth Vader in flesh and burned head with his iconic mask could make red force lighting and combined it with other force moves such force repulse, force push, lightsaber combat, he would be a Emperor of the Siths, Sidious could be a senator that isn’t overuses Dark side but focuses on manipulation to a galaxy. The wife of Darth Vader at the end of the action while he kills Luke and Leia would be a Abeloth, beauty but her skin greish white, with red eyes. And Starkiller clones such of Siths from Tatooine, Hoth, Feliucia, Empiricial I mean all Sith Starkler versions as Vader’s generals and the Grand General Dark Apprentice Vader’s Executor would have turrents that shooting force lighting bolts: blue (shut down ship engines) , violet ( blow up the ship), red ( only kills and consume force from the ship’s crev.

More like he had no choice. Anakin was fated by prophecy, by The Force, to be destroyed (or whoever was the reigning Sith master) by Anakin.
So Palpatine figured out if he was going to go out anyway, he might as well do it by making the Chosen One a Sith.
At best voiding the prophecy, at worst going out giving the middle finger to the Light Side.

I remember that after the mission against the Black Sun Darth Sidious was dissatisfied that Alexyn Garin, the leader of the Black Sun, was able to inflict a wound on Maul's hand. Sidious astutely deduced that Maul was overconfident and underestimated the ability of Garin, who was slightly force-sensitive, which caused the injury. Sidious kind of hamstrung all of his apprentices because he didn't want them growing too strong, Maul got rather specific training to serve a certain purpose. Dooku's dark side training was super half-assed cause Palps didn't want a mere place-holder learning too much and getting too strong, and Vader he stuck in a sub-par suit with sub-par cybernetics purposely designed to be weak to force lightning. As much as he believed in the rule of two, he was so averse to ever being surpassed by his apprentices that he made sure it'd never happen.

As much as they tout Palpatine as "the culmination of Sith teachings" and "the greatest of Sith Lords" this would be the norm. Think of all the Masters holding things back from their apprentices, over and over so they wouldnt be usurped, across an eon. Hundreds of Masters not passing down everything to their students, lesser knowledge every generation. Palpatine was the special kid in the corner with barely a hint of training compared to when Sith had actual schools on the Dark Side...

This wasn't entirely Sidious's fault. To fully train Maul as an equal while Plagueis was alive (I'm going off Legends here). Would have caused the two Sith to have a confrontation detrimental to The Plan.
The real loss, in Legends and Canon, was Maul's innate abilities meant he could have rediscovered the secrets of Sith Sorcery. The last Sith Sorceress had been Darth Zannah. And even though Sith Lord could use lesser magiks. The true power was unattainable unless you had the talent for it.
Later, Palpatine meant to recreate these abilities using Anakin's kinship with the Force. But stuff happened.

In Canon Maul had he not been a failure on Naboo would of never been replaced as a apprentice with Dooku according to sources within Canon.
    1. Sidious considered Maul a loss while he saw Dooku as a proton torpedo so he saw more potential in Maul before his beating on Theed that is then he ever saw in Tyranus as far as force potential goes and this was in a Canon Darth Vader Comic.
    2. In The Son Of Dathomir Comic which is also Canon it was heavily implied that Mauls potential was above Talzins own and debatebly even Sidious own which was the main but not only reason Sidious ditched having Talzin as his apprentice for Maul that and Maul was still a pre teen so easier to manipulate and mold then his Mother was so yeah.
    3. One of the writers said that Maul was supposed to serve in Dookus role in terms of power, rank, and skill at some point but didnt because Obi Wan ruined that for him.
    4. Maul said to Savage how The Clone Wars started without him and how he was meant for so much more but was robbed of that destiny because of Kenobi yeah.

Given Luke having brought back Anakin into the light, he might have brought Maul to Dathomir and have him abandon the sith way and embrace the Dathomirian path. Allowing him to rebuild what the empire destroyed. furthering the ties between Dathomir and the new Jedi order. Allowing true balance, dark and light allied to build the galaxy in a way the sith never could. And as experience as a sith assassin, Maul would be able to instruct jedi exactly how the sith would recruit and what lies would be made. I will always say that I don’t really care for Darth Maul to be the villain of the sequels given how he was set up in the clone wars, and in the prequel to me, it doesn’t make sense that he goes from being primarily Obi-Wan villain to Luke and the New Republic‘s villain. This is strictly just going through material that George had his hand in. to me it seems like a very lofty goal to set up Maul as the big bad. I will say it I really wish that they would have done something new in the sequels and not just rehash both old plots from previous movies, but also the legends Palpatine clone plot. don’t get me wrong. I do love seeing legend stuff make its way into Cannon again, but I feel like it would’ve been nice to take a new route the sequels rather than the route we took or the route that George intended to take

i was always under the impression that maul was never an actual apprentice, i thought dooku was his apprentice and maul was his assassin, i thought he only introduced him in the phantom menace as his apprentice to make it "obvious" that they are the two and dooku had nothing to do with them so he didn't tarnish his political reputation to have people on both sides of the war.

Palpatine made it all about him. Never realised that in order for the sith to conquer and rule they had to constantly be growing stronger and stronger. The sith stagnated on palpatine. Snuffing out all resistance and rebellions. Unfortunately we know how it ended, the rebellions finally cought up to him. If he wouldn’t cling to the power and instead let sith power and the rule of two flow true. The sith would be unstoppable. His ego set the empire up for failure.

Honestly, I think a Sith warlock mall would have been very fascinating
I truly find his death on tattooing distasteful for someone as cunning, ruthless and tenacious as Darth Maul the character had so much potential, but Star Wars rebels disagreed.
If only Darth Maul was allowed to become something close to the threat, he was in legends or even more.
Then again could always justify another return of Darth Maul thanks to night sister magic mix in with some sort of mystical relic of the ancient Sith or The Son or even Darth Revan or Darth Nox 🤔

Head canon, Maul rose like Darth Sion a Sith wight. Spook of understanding the Force and all the wonders there is to witness of it. Bids Kenobi farewell and wanders out into the desert.
Later Maul shows up during " Shadows of the Empire " when Luke crafts his green saber.
The Sith home world started with family loyalty, the Night sisters and brothers are of the darkside yet they still have family bonds.
Maul's brother & mother never gave up on him, they are now one with the Force and he is one with them.

I think IF Maul was trained the right way as a Sith and with Nightsister magic he could have been more powerful the Palpatine and maybe give full power Anakin serious run for his money. Maul would still be a warrior do his more Nightbrother blood but not limited as Malgus or others, even Vader, with mysteries of the darkside and magic but he would view them more as a refined weapon then it being the Sith's ways.

Ironic that Palpatine failed Maul as a Sith just like the Brotherhood of Darkness failed Darth Bane and themselves by not truily studying the darkside. Only differnce between Palpatine and the Brotherhood of Darkness is Palpatine should have known better with the teachings of Bane

I really dislike that writer of that comic who referred to Dooku as a "torpedo". It shows a total lack of understanding of his character and worth. Considering how long Dooku was working with Palpatine it certainly doesn't make sense, unless it was a particularly slow-moving missile.
I was surprised that Stupendous Wave didn't even contest it, given the prior love that this channel has fostered upon Dooku, to a certain degree.
Dooku's political abilities and charmisma made him far more vital in the end for the domination of the Sith. There is no way that Maul could have contributed the wealth or connections that Dooku had, nor could he have served as the face of the Separatists. Meanwhile, in the now non-canon novel, Darth Plagueis, Dooku was considered worthy enough as a replacement for Sidious should things have turned awry.
The disrespect towards Darth Tyranus really is unwarranted, but he'll never really get his dues, unfortunately. An angry bulldog is more appealing than an elegant and powerful swordsman, it seems.
It would be good if there could be greater co-ordination with Star Wars writers so that their favouritism and personal biases wouldn't seep in to such an extent.

I never understood why sith apprentices/padawans couldnt just level up their power/abilities by self training. I get that they probably wont get as far, or as powerful, but come on....if you teach someone the basics of something, anything, then they can keep practicing said thing and soon become a master at it.
Think of anything where this isnt true....
They should be able to become a partial master, thats competent enough to be able to put up quite the fight against a fullly skilled master whos been doing it for decades.

Many still think Maul is on the upper end of Sith Lords, outclassing the likes of Malgus, Bane and even Revan. Meanwhile Maul is getting shot up by Space Pirates, fails to beat Obi-wan in a 2v1 and takes the L in a mostly fare fight against Asoka at the end of the clone wars. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that Obi-wan, Asoka or the space pirates are weak. But they are not comparable to a grand master/ high Sith Lord level like Revan, Bane and Malgas are clearly at. Not to mention that Maul lost both his legs and a great deal of his midichlorians which is giving this already sad Sith at a Large handicap.

The entire rule of two system is idiotic nonsense. Every single Sith master would have gotten to that position by killing his own master, which means that he would be well aware of the fact that any apprentice taken would try to overthrow him later. Sith masters do not want to get overthrown though, so obviously they would never teach everything they know to their apprentices, and even if they tried to then sometimes apprentices would kill them before they could finish teaching it all.
The Sith would have gotten weaker with each generation if Star Wars actually followed logic, hell from Plagues to Palpatine there was already a considerable loss of knowledge, and that was only one generation. Also if any logic applied, at some point both master and student would have died together, either due to random circumstances like accidents, or because they simply killed each other in battle.
