Don't get me wrong, this was helpful and full of good advice but if you're stuck in your bedroom because there's a fire in your house, where do you find duct tape and foil??? or is it something we should all have in our bedroom?
I don't know about you but I'm an arty guy, I have tape, aluminium foil, and other stuff. I also have a private bathroom with towels, and don't forget you can wet your sheets with a water bottle or any other wet substance you have lying around.

Since then, I've been terrified of the idea to die in a fire to the point to when I hear a fire alarm, I have anxiety, even if I know that it's just an exercise.
They forgot to mention to stay as low profile as you can, because there’s less smoke along the floor than up in the air where there’s more smoke because it poofs upwards. You don’t want to inhale any toxic smoke, so staying lower to the ground can lower your risk of smoke inhalation.
If the window is stuck, unlock it. If it's melted together, break it. If your a few stories up, land on a soft area but slide off of where u are and when u land, roll like those parkour people so the shock is equally distributed so you get a less chance of breaking or spraining. P.s. Do not jump more than 5 times your height unless you want something amputated.
I think because people have the tendency to think that this is something that happens to somebody else/not them. I remember being in a self-defense class once, and the instructor asked "Who in this room do you think is most likely to be attacked?" Well, of course everyone thought about it and pointed to who they thought that would be, and the instructor said "isn't it strange that nobody pointed to his/herself?!" He was right!! Just like cancer... always think it's something that happens to others, until it happens to you or a loved one. Good point you have made though, especially in light of all of these comments.

Why should we stay in place? is it more likely the firefighters will respond quicker with fewer injuries to the victims if they stay put? What about pets? Seriously, Why shouldn't you try and run through the fire to gtfo of the house. besides the obvious "you'll get burned or worse." My mindset is "I'll take my chances" unless you make it CLEAR WHAT THE CHANCES ARE. Where are the supporting facts to back up this claim besides the one firefighter? Not that I'm saying he's not a credible source, but the lack in data doesn't make we want to take his word for it.

I have uncountable amounts of heavy books, wooden objects and generally ideal window smashing objects. •I own a spare quilt. Throwing that down, as I don’t think hurling myself onto bricks is very safe. And my main quilt. •Escape is mine. I live with broken limbs.
