I don't think Calafiori is being looked at a starter this coming season. I think he's a rotation and future replacement for Gabriel, four years younger it just makes perfect sense. I see Timber starting left back next season, I was blown away by his quality on the ball the glimpses we did get to see last preseason and I can't wait to see him fully fit and ready to go - I can't believe more fans are talking about the excitement about him back.

Zero chance he’s moving to be a replacement in a few years, at this stage in his career.
He is absolutely going to be our LB or CM and CB rotation.
Football, at this level, has changed in that it’s no longer good enough to have 11 good players. You need a squad of 18 or so first team worthy players. Just look at City - arguably 2 teams of 11 that could compete for the league.

Charles please do your research on Calafiori aside’s from this season for Bologna in terms of getting pasted by dribblers he’s statistically similar to Zinchenko not only in passing and possession but in aerial duels won go and check for yourself. Some things are too good to be true sometimes similar to Mudryk when a player overperforms and gets sold for a lot of money

He’s been revered in Italy for years now. All the top teams there have been tracking him for ages and, in more recent times, the top teams here.
The only slight concern would be injuries. He got a pretty bad one when he was 16(?) and had to have his knee reconstructed.

Plus I’ve been watching Serie A for +15 years now and I only marginally heard of him when he played in Paulo Fonseca’s Roma side then watched him this Eason for Bologna. I never said I knew more than other teams I’m showing awareness that despite him have very good qualities that a defender usually won’t have, the basic attribute that a defender is meant to be good at he’s not very good at that. Now it’s not to say he’s a bad player or he can’t be coached to become better, however spending £40-45M on a player like that is not god value for money quite similar to the hype Mudryk got when he was over performing in the UCL for Shaktar
Hi Charles. With the likely addition of Calafiori. Why does Kiwior or Zinchenko have to leave to make room? We need to get away from the starting 11 and starting to think about the squad of 18.
Kiwior can provide adequate cover for Gabriel and Zinchenko can provide cover for LB and midfield. So many games every year we need to have a squad that can change without the level dropping.
I don’t think we are going to sell defenders as you guys think I remember arteta saying a lot last season we were short in defence

It's great coming out of the blocks at the start of the season, but it's a long season so we can't afford to fall off a cliff at the end of the season like we did in 22/23 season, although we do have an easier run in so maybe that is why we are looking at a fast start. I think we will be targeting fast starts in a few of the early games, Villa away, Spurs away, City away, Liverpool home, Chelsea away. The other early games I think we can win without going ballistic in the first 10 minutes. If we can get 12 to 15 points from those first five tricky games then we should be in a great position.

Eze is an easy layup in strengthening the squad. There are better players than Rashford we should consider eg. Leao.

Hey guys, great show - can’t help but think that when we talk about selling Kiwior or Zinchenko a lot of Arsenal fans are still stuck in top club mindset… the SUPERCLUB mindset that, for example City have, we need 2x sets of back fours. So we need White/Timber, Saliba/Tomi, Gabby/Kiwior, Calafiori/Zinny

Governor, Watching you from Nigeria.Concerning the left back and maybe some other positions, have you considered the possibility that Arteta is trying to build a first team quality backup? Arsenal will be in 4 different competitions at least and in other for the players to remain fresh he has to rotate quite well. Maybe he needs similar profiles for series of position so that he can confidently rotate without a noticeable drop off in performance. That's what I think.
100% agree we will win the league. It's entirely possible we sign Callifiori and don't sell a single defender because we just need the squad.

Kiwior and Calafiori are both physical profiles Arteta wants (he wants a physically dominant team).

Bologna would be great, it's a lovely city and the flights are dirt cheap.
If we do move on Nketiah, Nelson, Tierney & Nuno Tavaras, the latter being the fastest player at the club, it leaves Martinelli as the only rapid quick player left along with Saliba, White & perhaps Jesus, despite Kiwior's short sprint training record. Do you fear we lack that player able to run literally through the lines or play off a defenders shoulder on a regular basis ? Because i do.

Thanks Charles. I still do not agree that should Calafiori sign, one of Zinny or Kiwior has to go. If we're going by the ideal squad number in terms of positions, we should have 8 defenders, that is 2 for every position. Currently we have 7. That is White/Tomi (RB), Saliba/Timber (RCB), Gabriel/Kiwior (LCB) and Zinny/??? (LB). The goal has always been to have a very strong squad with 2 good players in every position. So I don't think Calafiori coming means someone else must leave. We will be playing over 60 games and you can't always count on Tomi and Zinny being fit, so there is that.
The thing is saliba and Gabriel don't really share their minutes at all

I think,if a big bid comes in for Gabriel, he goes. Fantastic defender as he is he is not comfortable on the ball and Artera clearly wants that from his defenders. So I see it as we Keep Tomi and Kiwior and get Calafiori and any big bid from Saudi GM will go and that would be good business imo🤷♂
People Timber is skilful enough to solve our number 8 role and if we get Calarioli left back who can cover as centre back for Gabriel M if he goes forward or vice versa and then Timber left 8 with his skill that can play as a defence or attacking midfielder player the left is covered WOW

Could we possibly keep both kiwior and zinchenko and see zinchenko transition into playing in midfield. I think his best qualities can blossom there while his defensive flaws are reduced. Also stacks up our midfield depth with another international level midfielder

Saka is actually slow and tired. I think it might be good as well that Arteta uses him as left wing back and Saka was not that good this season for Arsenal as welll. If Arsenal gets Nico Williams on one side and Martenelli played good the last two/three games in place of Saka (right forward) or Arsenal sign new fast player.
Hindsight IS a wonderful thing of course but had we let Partey go and kept Xhaka last season I have no doubt we would have made up them missing points to be champions 😢
