    This space looks great and the large print is amazing! :)

      Thanks Attila, yeah I will be moving full time into this space over March. Looking forward to spending more time in the city. Those canvases, are all shot on the Hasselblad which still blows my mind. It is a different world. Cheers Matt

    Love those huge 8ft prints on the wall 😊 Wish I could afford a D850, for sure I'd add the grip if I did buy one. Both my D750 and D7200 are fitted with the official Nikon Grips and they are great to handle. 😊

      Thanks Monster, yes the large canvases are lovely, and the colour rendition of the 11880 Epson, which I print those on is amazing. If you would like to see a film about the making of that image check out th-cam.com/video/Ak8hmOmoLLU/w-d-xo.html all about that image. : ) Yes I love the way the grip feels. I will use it as often as possible. Talk soon. Cheers Matt

      Cheers Göran, yes I know, I have it on my list, I am moving offices at the moment, and I have 20 years of life and work to sort out, taking up a lot of time, only a month to go, then I am excited to say I will have much more time. and then time for the TS exposé Cheers Matt

    I found the same problem - the en-EL18 adapter should have been bundled. and i bought mine new from Roberts (USA) for AU$506.71+74.70 postage...

    Why would you put AA's in your DSLR?
    Because they're cheap and available everywhere so being able to put them in your camera can save your ass in a jam.

      Hi John, totally agree that is an awesome reason. Perhaps a 1 in 1000 shoots reason for me, but a good one. What I was thinking about when I made my comment was, Nikon sell the grip which increases frame rate, as one of its few major selling points. I would suspect, but I might be wrong, would be one of the 3 major reasons people would buy it (vertical grip, frame rate increase, extended battery) Yet they ship it without the parts for something people are buying it for. Which I found frustrating, and basically gouging their customs. So you are right it is not a bad thing, but I would prefer to buy the AA adapter as an optional extra, rather than the having to buy the adapter for the Nikon EN-EL18B (The Nikon EN-EL18B batteries last 4000-5000 images, with the D850 internal battery this would near 6000 images). My workflow to mitigate flat batteries is to carry twice the batteries I need, and to have the charger in my camera bag all the times. Your point though is wonderful and illustrates that we all have different work flows and your comment may inspire me to carry the vertical grip and the AA adapter at all times just for that once in a while situation when I have forgotten to charge my batteries before a shoot, or something as gone wrong. Thanks so much for being part of the conversation and adding to make us all better at what we do. Cheers Matt

      It is frustrating that the AA's don't increase the frame rate as they do on my D700. From a voltage standpoint, the 8AAs should give the same juice as the enel18.
      I've definitely been saved by being able to put AA's in my camera a few times though.

    Hi thanks for the video. Grip makes sense indeed. 9fps is still almost 30% faster then 7fps, for wildlife can be important. Does not have to, depending on ones style of shooting, but can.
    Wanted to mention that you can go for a lower price option if you don't mind 3rd party components. Thom Hogan also tested the Vello BG-N19-2 grip with 3rd party battery and charger. Does save a lot of money. And you can still get the Nikon EN-EL18b if you don't want a 3rd party battery in the grip. Still then a lot less expensive. I do have the Vello grip as well with Watson battery and does work well. If you need it professional, by all means go for the MBD18 package, but if you don't depend on it for income, a less expensive option might work as well.

      Thanks Erik, yes I think third party options are a fair idea with this sort of accessory. I would certainly consider it for next time. : ) What camera are you currently creating with? Cheers Matt

      Hi Matt. D850 with the mentioned grip :-)
      Z6 that I quite like. And D500 that will most probably go for sale soon.

    • @MattIrwinPhotography

      Great Kit Erik, yep with a D850 and a Z6 I can see how you really don't need the D500 much anymore as the D850 can almost be a D500 in crop mode. What do you most like to photograph? Cheers

    • @ErikSpaan
      @ErikSpaan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mostly nature and a bit wider. Try not to limit myself too much. But nature always has my attention :-)
      D850 in crop mode is indeed mostly equivalent to D500. Now that I can trust the z6 enough I have a more then adequate 2 body setup (happy to be able to afford it)

    The music at the start almost made me switch this off! Too loud and too awful!

    Adding $1500 to the price of the D850 starts making the D5 look like a better option.

    • @MattIrwinPhotography
      @MattIrwinPhotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Jack, yes in the end it is a big price to ask, but the D5 can't give you 45 MP, and I suppose that is the most fundamental difference. It feels to me like the D850 is the better allrounder of the two and still cheaper with the grip. Along with tilt able screen, which I am using heaps, WiFi, blue tooth, better dynamic range and more, it certainly wins for my style of work, for raw speed, and insane ISO the D5 will always be ahead. Great to have the 2 choices with the one lens system. What sort of photography do you most enjoy?

      The USD price is 397$

    • @MattIrwinPhotography
      @MattIrwinPhotography  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Brandt, Thanks for joining the conversation, does that price include the battery and charger, as a lot of people don't have those parts to get the extra speed and have to pay the extra? Cheers Matt

    • @brandt_bennett
      @brandt_bennett 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matt Irwin Photography indeed. Tack on an additional 50$ USD for a Nikon EN-EL 15 and 50$ for a charger. So still pricey at 500$ USD
