      tnakai1971jp unless you are a lord/duke this isn’t your heritage. You were considered the subject of these people, and they did their best to treat your ancestors as peasants and dirt under their shoes... ensuring the wealth stayed in their family only. Is that what you miss? Do you miss bowing down to your masters as they pass by? Walking of the sidewalk to make space for them if you crossed in the street?

    Hah, the army! Careless bunch.
    My father bought a house, not a place like this shown in the video of course but a large house with 5 bedrooms and it was also wrecked by the army which commandeered it during WW2.
    But in 1950 he got it at auction for the right price and fixed it all up. I was a toddler then.
    I do recall later as a kid of 9 or 10 though being excited to find a number of large bullets and 2 hand grenades in the greenhouse at the bottom the garden! All were live and the police were called then bomb disposal army guys to take away their litter!

    You had to have a licence to make repairs to private houses & licences were scarce? Typical. Another thing, try getting a mortgage back in the 50s/60s Govts didn't want to give them to the average worker! Still can't get them! Only a very small window of opportunity in 80s/90s when credit was thrown at ppl & 100% mortgages. Ppl used credit cards & didn't realise that wages weren't keeping up with the cost of living. Then Govt took the credit away & ppls houses!

    I am an uneducated Japanese of humble means so I am not obviously an expert in this area but my instinct tells me that there was something going on in high places to destroy the top layer of the British society.
    We in Japan lost aristocracies not because the people voted for it but the US occupation authority issued directives to strip the privileged class of their wealth.

    I am a Japanese male who bankrupt three companies one of which was listed. My education is limited, but I would like to think that I always try with good faith.
    Japan's tie with England was temporarily severed by those who wanted to see the A-J Treaty ended. Japan was very happy to protect and defend the B Empire in Asia in return for having her colonial interests recognised.
    At any rate, imperialism was becoming rapidly out of fashion and we would have both lost them sooner or later.

    I know Clarissa's sister quite well,they don't get on.I think perhaps Japan is male dominated,as was England in the early 20th century,however there has always been a few women with a sense of adventure.I have to say being quite often out of London I see a very different side to England.The England I knew as a child when you could leave your doors unlocked and your bicycle unlocked has gone for ever.I have to say Clarissa ( like a middle white sow) is always very much on the button.

  • @nevanovna

    I think perhaps a problem with the Japanese is they like having the same items as each other,they go around in packs wearing the same items of clothing,is this due to a change in their social structure,in old Japan they would have belonged to feudal lords,and would have united under a banner ? I was sorry to see that the Japanese were forced to hand in there swords to the uncouth Americans after the war.

  • @nevanovna
    @nevanovna 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Perhaps this is where the true difference of national identity comes to light,as a child my education was to be original and form my own ideas( I cannot vouch for the modern child,as life in general has changed) I beg to differ with regard to Hiroshima,the USA were aware of the devastation.I am sure if we are observed from another planet they much think,we are bent on destroying the earth through greed for land and power.

    There are still people with titles, rich people with titles and all that, but the society itself changed. The younger generation rebelled the same way as the other people after the second world war and somehow most of it just got lost somewhere along the way.

  • @tnakai1971jp

    Japan chose to go into the war. I think it is rather futile to argue that Japan has no choice but to go to war.
    Japan certainly faced a very, very hard choice - give up her own little Empire, which had been built on the lives of 3 millions, or go to war.
    It was like giving up India for Britain.
    Still, she had the option. Being winging about whether it was fair or not fair never brings anything out in the world of politics and power game.

    Well, the number of character is limited to 500.
    Japanese can be incredibly insecure and they loath being different from everyone else at times. If you lock up a country for long, not an unexpected consequence.
    Hiroshima - Americans have nothing to be ashamed of. They had no legal problem and moral problem could not be discussed at times.
    If Japan had it, she would have done the same. War is a legitimate instrument of state, and sadly the legal and moral debates continue.

  • @tnakai1971jp
    @tnakai1971jp 11 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    About the use of the first A-bomb - the balance between the legal side and moral side is a highly adjustable one. I personally take a very pragmatic view whereas you take a very compassionate view.
    The greatest asset Japan has ever give to America is the silence on the A-bomb debate. The Japanese are mostly forward-looking thinkers including those who wear the same clothes as everyone else in the herds.
    I encourage people in Japan to focus on why rather than how the disaster occurred.
