I don't know where my brain was but I sold my '86 911 eleven years ago. I've contacted the owner, who has been keeping it nice for me, and I've requested that he sell it back to me. He's not quite ready but my name is now on the top of the list. In the mean time I'm just about finalized on a '03 996 Carrera. On a side note, last night my wife asked me why I was buying the '03,,, and I couldn't tell her. It's not a secret I just flat ass don't know.
There is a few things we Porsche owers can do on our own. When it comes to the real mechanical stuff I leave it to the real Porsche mechanics and pay the money. The headaches saved is worth it.
Hey there and thanks for the enjoyable and informative videos. I may be one of your few women subscribers (???) and I certainly wish I had more mechanical expertise but I leave that with my mechanic. I own a 1988 930 Cab and a 1997 993 Carrera Coupe. I also have an '87 LC FJ60 so we have similar tastes! Anyway, I do wish I knew more mechanics but do what you like and don't worry what others say. You certainly don't have to be able to rebuild an engine to enjoy your cars!
Love your content man, Nothing wrong with going to the experts, you can always learn a little by spending a bit more time with the mechanic. My Porsche guy loves to explain & talk and I have found myself easily caught up for an hour or so talking Porsche cars and learning about some of the stuff that get's done to the car. Luckily the older cars are more analog & easier to learn to do things on the vs. modern cars. Keep the content coming, I am still on the hunt for a clean G50, a few slipped through my hands and timing was not right on others. Have you replaced the 915 gearbox or done any Synchro work? Guards Red all the way!
Thanks for the support. Just had a wevo classic kit installed on the 86. It’s a game changer. Retains the vintage feel while crispening up the action and just tightening it all up. Will publish a review of it in the next few weeks. I have content opportunities stacking up so keep your eyes open for more videos. Thanks again for your support. 👍🏼
Do you think I should learn to do some of my own work on my cars or continue to outsource? Would genuinely like to hear opinions.
Im not very mechanically inclined so I have others do the work for me. I can so some small things but every man's gotta know their limitations.
You should! Start on some of the simple things first. There are several books available that can be your guide.
Yes, you could do oil changes and things like that to get started. Also, headlight upgrades, and items like that are fun.
Love that guards red air cooled Porsche. Hands down its the crown jewel of your collection bro
Stick to your strong points: I am happy to do most of the work on my house and motorbike. Letting the experts work on the Porsche though

My 3.2 came with a non-stock exhaust. Was too loud. Put the stock back on. The way it was meant to be. Sounds great.
We’ll see. You may be right.
@@Rennthusiast Enjoy the content tho. And, by the way, I’m no mechanic either. I’m sure you do many other things well. Cheers
Trevor Macdougall haha thanks for the support.
