Unreal comeback against a tricky player Mizutani. Ma Lin my idol 🙏🏼

this match is a lot simpler than you guys are making it out to be. In the first couple of sets, Ma Lin didn't make any gambling topspins. However, once his coach saw that he was losing the top spin to top spin rallies, Ma Lin was instructed to gamble his forehands harder so that he could avoid the long rallies. When the ball when to his backhand, the chopblocked it to backspin so he could prepare for his next loop/counterloop. Essentially, his entire strategy revolved around lowering the number of rallies and winning points with the 3rd or 5th ball.

Ma Lin's game has always been about third ball attacks. It's not as if he had many opinions with his style. He had troubles against Mizutani's lefty style which produced some wicked angles that stretched him wide.Later in the match he kinda learned Mizutani's placement patterns and covered the wide forehand better,he also adjusted for the sidespin.
Mizutani's strategy was pretty solid.Lefties are a bad match up for penholders.

This edit/ video exactly shows how shallow we are as an audience. Long rallies = fun and excitement!? That's why FKing ittf keep making the ball bigger and less spin. Come on people, the art of third attacks and tricky serves, that's strategies and that's what we should also appreciate. Not just FKing tennis long rallies.

after a while watching I thought Jun Mizutani plays so extremely good that he would surely beat Ma lin, Im pretty surprised he lost that game....somehow the chinese always are that concentrated until the end...so that they often are the winner...but many highlighs are won by jun mizutani here thats why Im so wondering that he lost...

    • @dickn.ormous1064

Of course he couldn't beat Ma Lin,Mizutani was a copycat of Europeans of the 90's but those players were tall and strong.Mizutani ain't Primorac.
But he did beat Xu Xin at the Olympics which is more than adequate considering Japan's level.

    • @hanshuang6438

That's his play style, so do most of traditional penholders like Ryu Seungmin or Kaii Yoshida. They can cover the whole table with their forehand and footwork by doing that.
