I am wondering what all you guys not noticing from this video :D I was the biggest fan of Mizutani (so no offense), but it seems this video is about Mizutanis biggest weakness?! Every time Mizutani gets more than one Ball. on the Backhand he can't compare playing aggressive Backhand Backhand rallies, but instead he starts playing passiv backhand looping game? Exept he gets a ball in Bakchand without any pressure/pace like at 8:14 when he got time (more precisely dwell time --> explanation fallows) So what's my point with this? For me Mizutani was definitely one of the most talented table tennis player in History. But his biggest mistake was choosing the Mizutani ZL Carbon as his main blade! Why? (and I will not start a discussion about this), the only thing what I'm saying is, do you know any Chinese Player who is using Zylon Carbon in an outer layer blade? No! What I am trying to say is, that with the mizutani ZL Carbon it is not possible to play a good Backhand (important: I mean in the matches, when the opponent is making pressure/pace) so of course it is possible to play a good backhand by playing BH topspin against block. But that's not what the top 10 of the world is playing in matches! It's all about Counterspin against Spin/ Topspin against Topspin! and why is it not possible? The Mizutani ZL has no good holding of the Ball, instead it has a soft touch a some catapult, it's great for FH Topspin etc. but for a good backhand topspin against some other topspin (which is the most difficult stroke in table tennis), you need a racket with some holding of the Ball! The easiest way for this would be a uncatapulty 7 ply all wood blade (watch Kristian Karlsson) he always going with his backhand against everything. But also 5+2 interlayer blades are good for this (Ovtcharov ALC, The Ma Long blade, Franziska ZL etc.) and of course some typical outer layer ALC (even it gehts a little bit more difficult with them Viscaria, Zhang Like ALC) but here you can at least adjust a little dwell time with the rubbers. At the end the biggest scandal is that not one Trainer of Mizutani was realizing this! So try it by yourself, get the Mizutani ZL Carbon with Tenergy 80 (Dingics or any other rubber with a better holding should work better, but Muzutani played a long time tenergy 80) and try to compare at topspin against topspin with ya backhand! Of course some balls will work, but any other interlayer ALC will work better!. And then watch mizutanis crucial games against ovtcharov, against MA long at olympics (where he played his best backhand) but he's always losing because of his this disability in backhand topspin against any other topspin.
