I actually bought one of these the other day. It runs fast. The only thing I don't like is that you'll need dingles and adaptors for the ports. I'm an long time apple user (since OS 9) but not a fanboy who needs to buy a new computer every year. The M1/M2 and soon to be M3 are amazing but apple needs to get their act together with port selection and ssd / ram prices.
Hi Sumer. I agree, the tb3/usb-c only option wasn’t ideal. Thanks for sharing your experience. ram and ssd… always crazy expensive with Apple once you leave the baseline config. I agree.
I have a Space Grey 2.3 GHZ 8 core i9 Intel 16" MacBook Pro 32 GB RAM 4 GB AMD Radeon 5500 Video 2 TB HD While I heard great things about M Powered Macs as far as performance. It's the compatibility that I have an issue with As far as I'm concerned My MacBook definitely holds it own against modern computers and it works great! The keyboard is very similar to my 2013 Scissor keyboard this magic keyboard takes a little getting used to but I like it better than my old MacBook I have no issues with speed whatsoever. I can definitely see issues with i7 Macs in this current day and age. Especially lower spec models because today you definitely need an up to date MacBook with at least a 1TB Drive I see my MacBook lasting me anither 5-10 years honestly In 2018 I bought a much lower spec MacBook for that time almost the base model This time I went for it and got a better Model not the entry level 2019 MacBook I do Audio Editing and My MacBook is perfect I see Apple eventually making a similar mistake that they made with the G4 Processors.
Thanks for commenting. Yes, an i9 will be plenty powerful for years to come. These are becoming cheap to buy on the second-hand market, as well. You can run a pretty fast Windows Bootcamp on it as well. :)
As for me, I just purchased a 2019 MBP 16”. It has 32gb of RAM and 512-SSD. It is a core i7, not the i9. It arrives next week and it cost me $950. I could have easily got the m1/m2 for cheaper. Hence it’s also my first MacBook I ever owned. I wanted the starlight M2 soooo bad. Then I was looking at the 2015 MBP, but settled for the 2019. The reason why I didn’t buy it. Was, because I’m not going to settle for a 13 inch screen. My older windows laptop which is a “Dell” is 15.4-16 inches. I’m not going to settle for a top of the line laptop. Just, because it’s the newest product. For me, I bought it, because it’s an affordable 16 inch laptop, inexpensive and it still runs smoothly. Just, because there is a better version out there. Does not mean that the older generation laptops are horrible (except for the 2017 macbook) the 2012 MacBook is running strong still, the 2015 is still a really nice option too.
2019 preferably, as it doesn't use the butterfly keyboard style anymore, which had issues for some people. Also 2019 will have a slightly newer Intel processor and graphics, so if you can, 2019 would be better,
I’ve had this thing since 2020 and I’m resetting everything. Gotta say it’s my best friend I’m so grateful for it
It’s still an awesome, useable machine.
