  • This is a fantastic computer, with incredible performance 5 years later. We are spoiled by the M series chips, but an 8 core i9 and a dedicated graphics card on an older computer can still perform quite excellent in 2024.

    I have a 2019 Space Gray 16-inch MacBook Pro and it's still a powerful machine. I bought it refurbished directly from Apple. They just installed a new battery, put on a brand-new base by the keyboard, and changed the speakers for no cost because I have Apple Care + for it which you can get on their refurbished products. There are a couple of downsides to the laptop which are not a big deal. Yes, it doesn't have the M1 or later processors like the new MacBooks have with Apple Intelligence. Also, it doesn't have Wi-Fi 6, but I still get fast speeds Wi-Fi speeds up to 700 mbps.

    You can buy one maxed out for just $1800 now. That’s 8TB of storage, 64GB of RAM, a 5600M, and an i9-9980HK all in there for $1800. Out in a 6900 XT eGPU for $500 and Windows 10. Now you have the fastest Intel MacBook possible. It probably beats the M3 Pro in games too

      @@DrZoidburg Actually, no. The Rog Zephyrus G16, the closest thing to the Intel MBP 16", does not even come with 32GB of RAM for $2300. You can't even buy it for under $2800. Got a 2019 15" for less than $800. i9 cpu, 32gb ram, 512gb storage, Vega 20 gpu. Thing was maxed out aside from storage. It's a beast for what I need. Plus one thing that super bothers me about the M series is they can't have multiple monitors. But the Intel Macs can. So if I decide to hook it up to my many other monitors it's easily a replacement for my iMac should I need to. And this laptop beats my iMac hands down, maybe aside from thermals lol. Now to see about that aging and weak battery. Not looking forward to that idea of replacement lol.

    One major thing to consider when buying a mac now, even if you only need it for 2 years, is AI, and Apple's AI is only available on M series macs, on top of that the M series macs are far more efficient, if you need something RAM intensive, a 16GB M1 Air is a far better buy than this, and if you need a graphics intensive machine, neither the M1 air nor the 2019 Pro are options worth looking at

    I really do think these systems are a good deal especially if you want the 16 inch display and don't care about the efficiency of Apple Silicon. I bought a base model one a year ago off of eBay for a really good price. It's definitely got some physical wear on it but it's fully functional and I'm really getting my moneys worth. I personally do not experience it getting hot at all, nor do I really hear the fans ever but this might have something to do with the fact that it is the base model. That said, I think the base model is a compelling option. I wouldn't spend too much or break your back trying to find a maxed out one. The maxed out ones aren't really that much faster and they just have way worse battery life. There is nothing I do that requires the speed and efficiency of Apple Silicon. I really just wanted the 16 inch MacBook with good speakers and the Touch Bar is definitely a bonus in my opinion. To be clear, these systems are not better than the newer models; I'm just saying that they are well-suited for some people and their needs.

    • @braixeninfection6312
      @braixeninfection6312 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      They are better than the new systems if you pick and choose what to count lol. For me price was the winner. I was able to get a used 2019 15" maxed out for cheaper than the M series. So for me it was indeed better. Plus some features I want don't work on M series. Another benefit. I think for most people the intel works perfectly fine and I see little need to spend more for the M series. Although the battery life is something mine is far behind, even when new. But it might be nice to have a laptop that doesn't double as a steam cooker lmao.

    Which by the Way upgrading the CPU on the 2019 0r 2020 Intel iMac is Sweet for gaming , just saying xD

    The butterfly keyboard is absolut horrible, I would seriously rather use the 2015 MacBook, throw in a new nvme ssd with an adaptor.
    The 2015 actually runs the best on macOS 15 with open legacy patches (after its indexed everything, it's quite fast still).
    But today, buy an m1 is simply a much better buy, also the newer ssd's last allot longer:
    a 2019 laptop ssd will last 6-9 years.
    a 2021+ laptop ssd will last 7-10 years.
    a 2024 laptop ssd will last 8-12 years.
    You can only replace the ssd in the 2012-2017 models, so I would rather pick a 2017 than a 2019 model.

      its not about running out of storage (128gb is laughably bad tho), but the fct that SSDs are Wear parts, they will fail and when they do your entire logic board is bricked and the laptop is an expensive useless paperweight

      @@HarishBabuM depends how much you use it the NAND chips on the 2017-2019 are notoriously unreliable and will fail easily, but it may be fine for 5 years, I cant say, all I will say is it isn’t worth trusting important data to, and you could just get a better machine without this issue at all for a lower price

      Fair point. But the ability to boot into windows, significantly more ram, larger screen, EGPU, might do it for some people

    • @sozonpv
      @sozonpv 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@techno_eclipse I was with you until the point in your video where you showed the fan at full blast and you showed the Louis Rossmann clip. Heat is definitely a problem and at $500 it's no dice for me. However, you cut that price in half and I am starting to listen. Frequently, in the low-end mac group, folks are always bragging how they got a steal from Facebook market place or a thrift shop. With the 2019 this won't happen for a while but it will eventually. So paying $500 top dollar on ebay for that 32GB is tempting but the quiet albeit expensive m1-m3 is just as tempting with more longevity.

  • @luckii_shots

    it really, really depends. it just happens to fit my needs. i need to work on macos for music production (for logic pro), but also would like to have a strong enough windows install on the go to game with friends during breaks. specing up a MX series laptop from 8 to 16GB is so ridiculously expensive, and it hard to find used ones in the wild (in eu at least), plus theyre basically a no-go for modern gaming support. this seems like the best bet in terms of performance and compatibility. only thing that concerns me is thermals (i can put up with) and battery life (i need 6 hours minimum).
