The Horizion spirits are just such nice entryways into the game. While there complexity compared the base game lows is pobably similar, they are just so much better designed. I mean yes their general powerlvl is in higher than most of the og 4, but overall also their growth tracks are just so much better designed and won't lead you into traps that their counterparts do. Add the super flavourful and always helpful statics and you get great spirits to learn many of the core mechanics of the game, big fan!
One comment: You point out the 0 starting energy/4 unique powers and that it's good for newer players. It's also there because some spirits have different starting configurations (more powers like Many Minds/Dances Up Earthquakes, or starting energy like Hearth Vigil/Wounded Waters Bleeding). For the original spirits it didn't matter as they were always 0en/4powers, but it seems that they're more likely to break that mold going forward. I wouldn't be surprised to see something like a high energy low power spirit with some variety of restrictions someday.
