    You need a warping board woman. I’ve seen pictures of persons using one sized so you could hang it off a door using wreath hangers making it easier to take down and put away. Would be a grand Christmas present.
    The piece is beautiful! Makes me want to buy a small loom. I took a class in weaving in college. I really enjoyed it. Keep eyeing looms over the years, but I need to go down another craft rabbit hole like I need a hole in my head. 😁
    If you’re looking for something new to try on the loom look up warp painting. One of my classmates made a tablecloth of painted violets on a pale yellow cotton warp and wove the weft in the same pale yellow cotton. The finished piece was stunning, all the muted flowers. I still remember the piece 30 years later.

    BTW Grace, I think I've sold my problems with loosing warp tension on either side of my 32" loom! When rolling on the warp, I usually insert cardboard strips at intervals to help keep the tension. Well this time I also added extra short lengths of cardboard at either end, thus the ends were on a tighter tension than the middle. As I weave I usually insert fabric lengths onto the roller. Anyways it worked!! 🎉🎉🎉

    You can flatten / remove wrinkles from the paper bags by ironing with a hot dry iron. It works quite well, and I’ve done it many times over the years.

(Just started saving up for one) I’ve never woven anything, so I have no idea about how much yarn a scarf would take, how much did you use for the weft? And how long did you make the shawl? 😊 did you make it the whole warp length? 😊

    I agree about the scarf you're wearing---absolutely gorgeous ! I see that you're able to just put the loom (16" SampleIt?) in your lap and weave---is that something you could do in the car, or is it too cumbersome for that? What about the 10" SampleIt---do you feel it's too small, or is it a good size to work with (especially on roadtrips)?
    Thanks !

    question on your vlogs July 5 and 7
    Sent at 11:35 AM July 15, 2019
    Hi Grace ---- I love your weaving videos!!!! they have given me so many techniques that I can use to overcome my current frustrations with the ridged heddle loom. I have a couple of questions maybe you can help me with.
    Can you tell me how you set warp on your finished fabric?
    How do you finish you cut weaving? with a Serger? Machine hem? Crochet?
    Wear does your inspiration come from when making clothing from your woven fabric? Can you point me to where you have seen people knitting to shape woven fabric into garments?

  • @JO-rx4tk

    I know I'm very late to this party, but I wonder if the miscalculation is due to not accounting for the little bit of length that's lost each time you wrap around the apron bar (is that what that's called?) on the back, the peg at the front, and loss due to the angle. Oh, and you probably lose a bit to gravity as well: the threads bow a little in the middle, like a hammock.
    A bunch of tiny losses adds up to whole warp threads "missing."
    But thank you for this video! I like seeing the math done in real time - it looks way simpler seeing someone do it "live" instead of just running through the numbers after the math is done.

  • @preludefugue4859
    @preludefugue4859 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is so beautiful. Is it the thinner the thread, the bigger the holes will be between each line? How can I avoid those big holes when using thin threads? I wish you can make a video for beginner

    • @loupgarou95
      @loupgarou95 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is quite old, but if you have thinner yarn, you should use a heddle with more dents, and for thicker yarn a heddle with fewer dents.

    Just a little off topic but I know you are active in several groups that are out and about doing demonstrations. I live in the U.S. and belong to a group that I am sorry to say most of the members are older. My question to you is do you know of creative ways to attract younger people to get interested in the fiber arts.?

    • @laurais4047
      @laurais4047 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Martha! I'm young-ish. I was introduced to weaving at the state fair by a demonstration. I ended up abandoning my husband with the baby and just sat and wove with the ladies for 3 hours. No regrets, I love my new hobby. I now have my brother making inkle loomed belts and my best friend weaving on a rigid heddle with me! ❤️ Good luck attracting new people. 💖

    • @sgejji
      @sgejji 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I know this question is older, but have you looked at what the meeting times are? A lot of younger people are still very much in the work force, so having times in the evening or weekends might help. Also, demonstrations at local family festivals (fall or spring ones sponsored by schools or parks for example).

    • @GraceTheBabbler
      @GraceTheBabbler  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      HOLLY DELANEY the paper separates the layers of warp before being woven, and the cloth after. The warp has to be separate from the layers below it because it will effect the tension. The cloth is protected by the layer of paper after. It might be on the loom for a long time.
